Also, how the hell do you repair power armor pieces? I can't seem to find the tab or interface to do it.

I'm looking forward to the mod that gives us New Vegas style survival with mandatory eating/drinking/etc.

Game is kinda brutal with just the 1 Endurance, Leather/Raider Armor, basic weapons and shit. Took me forever to get the Tenpines stuff done. On Survival mode.

Also, fuck that dog. He seems to be more annoying than useful and outright disappears on me a lot.
You could try save-scumming the legendary ghoul in the carpark area you see down the hill on your right just out of town if you take the left turn in front of the museum. Triggers if you loot the toolbox by the camp fire. I've gotten some neat stuff off him, like a troubleshooters treated leather vest which is 11 vs physical and 19 vs energy (-15% damage from robots too), a 22 point baseball bat, a couple of different leg armors and lucky knuckles (14 damage, medium speed, +15% crit refill, double damage crits with an empty upgrade slot). Shop till you drop (something that appeals to you). Thanks again to whoever mentioned you can do that with triggered mobs.

You guys seen this shit

Seems they tied the engine speed to FPS, thought only lazy japanese console developpers did that. Probably want to vsync/frame cap your stuff at a not too high framerate.
the hell? is this 1994?

So what's the general consensus on this? Anyone here playing the PS4 version? Mine comes this afternoon. I am also curious how long I will have to patch before playing.

Seems like a 50/50 split between good and bad. One thing that I didn't like hearing was that the game was more like Borderlands than Fallout. Maybe they were talking about the shooting mechanics - which I would be ok with.
Right now, you're going to get the opinions of people who are either rabid fanboys and would like the game even if it shit on their dog (hodj, Tuco, etc.), or people who are so enamored by "newness" that they ignore glaring/obvious flaws.
I'd honestly wait for a month or two for the "ohhhhh, shiny!" to wear off. Otherwise, I don't think you're going to get a fair/accurate assessment of the game.

graphics are weak (PC)and I am very surprised. May wait for mods.

No shadows indoors like skyrim (come on Bethesda ) .

I did run to Fenway park as I am from back there and a sox fan , that area looked good but there way too much bloom , looks much better at night ( in game ).

So far I would agree with the consensus. The game isn't revolutionary by any means, but it's good fun and very addicting. It feels very much like a more polished version of Fallout 3, which, after 7 years, could be disappointing to reasonable people, but it's not really bothering me. Like FO3, Skyrim, etc I am looking forward to graphical improvement mods at minimum. Some of the textures are just inexcusably awful for a 2015 game. I think ones opinion of this game will depend greatly on your attitude and expectations going in.

I'm really enjoying it, but I'm glad I picked it up for 20% off.

Interesting, only a few raiders attacked me when I did this. One had a skull icon though. But I'm not sure what that means yet exactly.

Kirun chimes in with his shit opinions I see.

I've already stated we know the story line is garbage and Bethesda makes shit games in general, and that anyone who has played any of Bethesda's games for the past 15 years is well aware of what they're going to get and what they aren't going to get going in, moronic cock guzzling retard.

So last night was my first foray into the Fallout world. Been casually skimming this thread as I wanted to go into it somewhat blind (played hella Skyrim). I have seen the light bros, and it shined bright. Only got to play around for 2ish hours because I preloaded on ps4 and needed sleeps, but i'm hooked. Goodbye social life for the next few months.

On a side note, I had to do a job at a Target this morning. One of the busiest in my area and they only got 25 bottles of Nuka Cola. All sold out within 10 minutes...

You crit in and out of vats. But you also can store up a crit and then expend it in VATS at will.
I havn't noticed crits out of vats - my whole build was based on a non-vats crit build with low agi but that's pretty much fucked now. The crit system is my only real disappointment with the game so far, i'm having a blast otherwise, just a little bummed.

Huh. Maybe its just sneak bonus damage I'm seeing then. I dunno.

When the strategy guide arrives today I'll look into this more and see if it doesn't explain what's up.

What I'm reading is that higher luck charges the crit meter faster, the crit banker Perk allows you to bank a crit and then keep building the bar so you can unleash two crits back to back, and therefore there are no crits outside of VATS.

That is kinda shitty if true.

Fallout newb here and I feel a bit lost. Should I be picking up every single thing I see ? Broken Lamps? Broken Fan? I've obviously been prioritizing picking up stuff like glue and duct tape... Just dont really get what to do with any of it at this point.

Fun to be dropped into a world with absolutely minimal guidance though, you rarely see games like that anymore.

I didn't spend NEARLY enough time last night in the character creator. Might have to go back tonight and put some real time into it.

Did they reduce the chicks booty size or what? I made a female character and her ass is flat as hell, I wanted to stare at a squatmasters ass.

How to make Fallout 4 PC not feel like shit

Fix an otherwise amazing game. INIs are located in C:\Users\{YOUR NAME}\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\

Problem 1: Mouse aiming feels like shit because of mouse acceleration

Open both Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini
In the [Controls] section of both files, add this line:
bMouseAcceleration=0

Problem 2: Mouse aiming still feels like shit because vertical sensitivity is half as much as horizontal (seriously Bethesda?)

Open Fallout4.ini
In the [Controls] section, find fMouseHeadingXScale
On the next line, make fMouseHeadingYScale 2x the amount of fMouseHeadingXScale

Problem 3: The FOV is locked at 70/80 because you're playing this on a couch from 8 feet away with a controller, right? Oh, you aren't?

Open both Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini
In the [Display] section of both files, add the following lines:
fDefaultWorldFOV=90
fDefault1stPersonFOV=90
90 is the default FOV of most FPS games, but you can change that to whatever makes you happy

Engine Speed tied to FPS
The Dog was a Lie (gimp not pimp)
You can save-scum repeatedly to game the drop system?
You can save-scum repeatedly to game triggered mob spawns?
Potentially no crits outside of VATS?

Nah don't grab everything you see. You will eventually become encumbered and can't run. Most of the "junk" items are used for crafting, so when you get to the first workbench/chemistry table/weapon bench look through the recipes for what everything takes so you can get a feel for it.

Most things like weapons/armor/ammo/food/drugs you pretty much always want to pick up. Careful spam looting bandits and stuff, their armor can get heavy when you have 10 of them. Explore EVERYTHING!

VATS might be more powerful later on when you get boosts to it but right now VATS is just not that good. At long/mid range it's garbage at low levels. At close ranger (which is where I used VATS before) the VATS DR is low and I don't have enough AP to get a lot of damage in. The change to make it slowmo when using VATS makes it a little more action oriented but I don't really like it. It's not fast enough to make it 'twitchy' and too fast for it to allow th eplayer to go into VATS and plan an attack. You pretty much need to enter VATS, select the correct parts and execute ASAP.

grab everything you see, store it at sanctuary, as you get a good supply in certain items stop picking them up (ex: steel, wood, rubber, concrete).

Unlike previous games, all that stuff can be taken to a workshop, broken down into materials to use for crafting.

But its not mission critical that you pick all of it up at once and get overencumbered and dragged down trying to get back to a workshop to use it. Most workshops have plenty of junk lying around nearby to use as well.

Agree. That's pretty much what my point was before about not being super excited about the change to slo mo while targeting, rather than just pausing the game and letting you cycle your targets and then setting up shots, then going forward while the attacks play out.
