The main thing I want to add is don't go hog wild spending lapis right away, even if there's still tons left to be farmed from story mode or if you have plenty of disposable income to throw around. Never use lapis to continue a fight, 99.9999999% of the time it's better to just accept the wipe and try again. Don't use your lapis to refill your energy. At your rank lapis refills are very inefficient. If you want more energy in a day, buy the daily 70 energy chest from the store until you're high enough rank that a direct energy refill is worth more than 70 energy. If you're determined to start running lapis refill macros to grind trust masteries right away without waiting there's nothing to stop you, just be aware that you will burn through lapis at an incredibly high speed.

Finally, don't spend lapis on unit summons aside from doing the daily half-price pull. In the very near future (next week supposedly?) they are implementing a change that dramatically increases the quality of results you get from unit summons. Also until you get more of a feel for the game, you should check here or in other places to see whether a banner is worth a heavy investment or not before you start doing extra pulls on it. The current banner is terrible and the VD banner is very niche.

If you want to get a feel for how important it is to save for good banners (unless you just plan to spend thousands of dollars on the game), do some practice 11 pulls on the updated gacha simulator so you realize just how easy it is to get shitty pulls even after the gacha change goes live.

The current banner isn't top tier or anything, but I'd still say if you don't get a Firion from daily pulls by Wednesday, use tickets until you get one. Chances are high to get one from dailies though (I got my first from today's daily in fact).

I kind of want to setup a draw attacks tank. I have Snow (I know he's not super, but I have him). Is there any other draw attacks tank coming besides Wilhelm? He's a 5* base, so can't count on him.

Snow and Wilhelm are the only 6* tanks with a passive draw. Off the top of my head, WoL, Wilhelm, and EV all have 100% provoke abilities, although WoL's only lasts a single turn until enhancements.

There are two items on JP that give passive draw, one from the anniversary celebration, one from Christmas this year.

I tested a few mechanics, and apparently between now and the last time I tested (months ago), camouflage no longer stacks additively for 100% with two. Either it was patched to stack multiplicatively to 75%, or it simply doesn't stack at all now and only gives 50% period. Either way, two of them no longer gives immunity to single targeting.

Using provoke on a unit, and camouflage on the rest of the team also didn't combine for 100% either. Nearly all hits went to the provoke unit, but every now and then another stray hit went on a different unit. I'm guessing they work together by making the provoke target 85% chance to be targetted and 15% chance for everyone else, instead of the usual 70/30.

On the other hand, draw attacks + provoke did seem to combine for a 100% target chance. At least, vs the 5 goblin fight in dalynka cavern, my draw attack + provoke Russel took 100% of attacks over the course of about 20 rounds with everyone defending (and no one else had camouflage). Could have been a string of weird luck, but I figure after 20 rounds with 5 enemies, at least one stray attack would have hit someone else if it wasn't stacking to 100%.

Few questions for the vets (thanks for all the help, especially Sinzar, definitely helped me get to an efficient start.


1) I started arena now but wanted to verify how it works. It looks like the quality of opponent doesn't greatly influence your points you get from the match? I took some horrible scrubs on and then a match that came down to the last ability 1v1 and they both gave 111-120 points for the match. So from the list you pick from is it just best to try and pick the lowest team and best match up from leaders? Ive went 15-0 so finally gave a solid group so I'll keep doing it until I get into tougher teams and start losing. What is the ratio shown? Mine says 1.0 so abit confused, I was 1-2 right when I started the game then the next 15-0 so that doesn't seem right.

2) Since it might be abit before I get DW are mage teams really that far behind? I'be got lightning for melee and got 3 top tier mages all with DC but only emp is maxed. Just deciding who I need to focus my efforts. I can't get Refia in the mix until I can get mars to evolve to 5 star so was using Cecil for heals (exp has dried up so he is stuck lvl 55 5 6 star).

3) A friend made a really dumb bet with me for 150 bucks so I decided to take my winnings and do 20k lupus of pulls (dumb I know with incoming changes but it was free money from an idiot so). I got a 5 star dark Cecil (not that good from what I read right?) and also hit a non banner Marie and Dark Fiona both 5 stars.

With limited ability to level any one I need to put abit of thought into who is the focus.

Marie isn't worth it at this for me right? Emp is solid and I'm getting Abit closer to getting a TM for meteor for him plus he has his build up spell for hard end game content and DC flare for single target faster fights. ExD I'm only 4 star still and D. Fiona I just started leveling. I know ExD and D.F are pretty solid with out TMs but both need a lot of exp and I have no cActus.

Eventually I can swap out lightning but for now melee wise she still seems solid.

Here's the answer to a question you didn't ask. Yes, it is very stupid to grind the Meteor TM.

Aside from that, Dark Fina is unquestionably the best caster in the game right now, although she's not *that* much better than Emperor or even Exdeath.

1) Points are based off the ratio of the opponent. It's random which opponents get offered to you, so if it only picks a bunch of enemies close to your rank, the fights will be mostly 1.0-1.1 ratio. If it picks some enemies way higher rank, you can get up to 1.5 ratio. Always pick the highest ratio team if you're winning most matches. If you find yourself starting to lose more than one match a day, start fighting easier teams.

2) Mages need TM's just like melee to do top damage, but just like how Lightning has innate dualwield, your mages have innate dualcast, so they will do better than your non-lightning melee until you finish DW materia to bring them up to speed.

3) It's never lupus. Dark Cecil has the best TM weapon for GS users, and he's strong after his enhancements (few months out). Work on DCecil's TM, but don't worry about leveling him anytime soon.

Marie is good, but only really for specific trial fights. She's low priority. Has a great TM, but non-weapon TM's should be done in your 3rd or so wave of TM's. Get TM weapons (and DW/DC) first.

I agree with Twilight about Meteor. I grinded an Ultima TM long ago, and I've used it like twice ever.

Thanks. Could you explain please. For emp isn't D.C. Meteor good AE damage over his star spell ? Or is it too hard on mana.

in arena, you never run out of mana unless someone osmosis you. casters are great in arena because of the 999 cap, and mages hit it early. outside of a few encounters in pve, mages are far behind.

cecil, lightning, exdeath, dark fina, emp will be a great area team that won't need any TMRs, just need to get them maxed.

Emperors Starfall is 4.6x damage for 50 mana
Meteor materia dualcasted is 6.6x damage for 100 mana, and costs you a materia slot (at least 10% mag, or more if you have TM's)

So meteor's worse mana ratio, but better for damage per turn. It's the fact that you're grinding out Meteor instead of almost any TM weapon, which will do far more for your team as a whole that makes it not worth it. The only reason you should use meteor TM is if you pulled 20 Golbez and fused them.

I'm not grinding it sorry should have clarified. Im not grinding anything TM wise yet but I've had a retarded amount of them on pulls.

Oh I've definitely spent some dollars but at least based off what I've read here and in Reddit I've had some pretty damn amazing luck both on the the 5 emps in 5 pulls (2 in 1 lol) and then the one last night in a whim landing those all in a few pulls. I'm done now until The next big one comes. Too many units as is and I need some fucking experience for them.

Is noctis and Gilgamesh not available or just rare being a natural 5?

Oh is critical rate a fixed value for everyone or is it a hidden variable stat for each unit.

Pulling Noctis and Gilgamesh is still possible, but they're extremely rare off-banner. There's a chance Noctis or Gilgamesh wins the players choice vote, so one of them may have a banner coming up.

Skills and Spells can't crit, only normal attacks and counter attacks (and skills with auto-crit like Burst Shot that ignore the restriction).

The base chance is 10%, with a 70% hardcap. Overall, crit is a worthless stat and can be ignored. At most, it's for trolling in arena by like giving Lightning a Twenty-Sided Dice so she counter-attacks harder (and evades more).

Gotcha thanks. I'm assuming lightning's TM is useless for the most part since you never auto attack in tough fights minus if she counters?

Your 5 star luck has been nothing short of phenomenal despite the number of paid pulls you've done. You must have a leprechaun wedged up your ass. I've been playing since launch and put in just over $100 and I've had a total of 6 Rainbows. 3 of those had been trolls (Miyuki, Chizuru and Snow) and only 2 have been 5 star bases (Noctis and Gilgamesh). That sixth Rainbow was an oddball. It was an Exdeath at launch when the highest base was only 3 stars so it's not, technically, a troll.

Then again. I did get 2 shitty rainbow (Lightning) on the same pull very early on in my 10+1 drunken pulling.
