Magus Sisters cid mission complete! It took me a few strategy changes to get one that worked, but figured it out after a while. I started off trying a plan of completely ignoring mitigation/heals, and just relying on luck to sleep all 3 enemies right away and go all out with a magic nuke team. Well, landing a 20% chance sleep on 3 targets at once is.... really low odds or something. After over 30 reloads, I realized how dumb it was to try a strat that relied on something like a 4% chance... that had to go off at least twice in a fight.

Ditching that idea, I instead figured why bother with sleep at all, and built a traditional team to just go man mode the fight. Well, it didn't take long to realize that was a horrible idea, since if you don't sleep at least one of them, they go power ranger mode and delta attack you into oblivion. So next up, I went back to the sleep idea, with modifications. Instead of going all out dps with sleep, I instead built a very tanky team, and just used sleep over and over, relying on only 2 dps (Lulu and Yuna) to carry the team while Rikku debuffed, Braska healed, and Paine tanked with drawfire/memento of protection. Well, that strategy worked... almost. With only two dps'ers, they ran out of hones with Cindy at ~15% life, and it fell apart from there.

Seeing how that strategy almost worked though, I ditched the idea of a tanky Paine (draw fire only works on like 1 or 2 skills + their autoattack anyway) and put Paine as a generic spellblade dps. With the extra help from Paine, it was enough to beat the fight without much issue. I will say my killing attempt I got kind of lucky since the small bee sister slept almost the entire encounter, and from previous attempts, I know that skank is by far their most deadly member of the trio.

Winning cid mission setup was:

Paine -- Thundaga Strike, Drain Strike -- shared shellga SB
Yuna -- Alexander, Maduin -- aoe nuke + resist SB
Lulu -- Waterja, Fireja -- no SB
Rikku -- Lullaby, Multibreak -- shared shellga SB
Braska -- Curaja, Protectga -- shared medica SB
Roaming: Sheepsong (+30% mag, haste, regen)

New hones required to beat this fight:
rank 0 -> 5 Lullaby
rank 1 -> 4 Alexander
rank 1 -> 2 Multibreak

I don't feel so bad about these new hones, since besides lullaby (which was cheap as shit) both of those skills are good long term investments.

Finally beat that asstard Ifrit! Had to use Rinoa's BSSB, put Motes on Quistis to unlock WHM4, level everyone to 79 in addition to many many S/L to avoid getting double AE (which is nearly insta-wipe). All I have to say is thank goodness for the refresh RW option so I could find the rare Rinoa's BSSB everytime I tweaked the party. Team:

Edea: Blizzaja / Memento Mori (Prey on the Weak)
Rinoa: Chain Blizzaga / Faith (Devotion)
Quistis: Curaise / Mental Breakdown (Mako Might) - Mighty Guard VIII
Irvine: Full Break / Magic Breakdown (Frail Prince)
Selphie: Curaja / Protectga (Double Cast WHM) - Shared Healing

RW: Sorceress' Awakening (Rinoa BSSB)

It's still massively overtuned where you can have him use 3 spells before you even get a chance to use one. Had to S/L a bucket ton of times but am super stoked to finally get it done.

I just used the Sleep Strat for Magus Sisters, similar to Angelwatch's approach except I had Kimarhi run sleep + poison, which really helped to kill Cindy. Got lucky on the 1st Lullaby sleeping 2 of them and never looked back. One advise I'd say is to bring a nuke on your WHM when you manage to sleep them all. Diaga was really useful, though honestly I shoulda just brought Holy.

Did mage meta on the Mote CM too, just Wakka instead of Khimari. Used haste/mag up RW. Still can't do Ifrit with zero FF8 SBs.

i still can't even beat ifrit non-CM style. i haven't tried using the Rinoa BSB RW method yet, but after wiping to him when he was down to maybe ~5% health last night, i'm giving it a day or two before i try again...

^^ This. I built a team today with heavy defense in mind (all backrow, 3/5 members with a fire resist accessory, native wall + shell/prot, all the breaks, and 2 medicas) and then 2 mage dps'ers. It was enough to survive until I ran out of hones on the mages (using sheepsong RW). With rinoa BSB RW they may have enough hones to do the full fight thanks to burst commands. I've just not put a ton of effort into the encounter, since I'm not ready to use the motes anyway, and it's one of those fights that gets slightly easier over time as your team gets upgrades.

Got Ifrit with a Rinoa BSB RW. Which requires native Hastega and Wall, and my new Protectga+Shellga+MagicBlink SB in Keeper's Tome certainly didn't hurt...

Tyro - Full Break / Mental Breakdown - Keeper's Tome SB, Mako Might RM
Selphie - Curaga / Faith - old unique Medica, Ace Striker RM
Exdeath - Chain Blizzaga / Drainga - Grand Cross, BLK+ RM
Porom - Renewing Cure / Diaga - Sync (medica + Hastega), Ace Striker
Y'shtola - Curaja / Magic Breakdown - Wall, Mako Might

Had Selphie use the RW after faithing Exdeath and herself. Ace Striker let her spam her medica 3x in a row at the end. Not sure if I even used any Curaga charges on her.

Didn't use a single cast of Drainga either. And only two casts of Diaga.

11 pull on BSB banner 3 gave me Faris's BSB and 1 other 4*, 9 3* :|

Not even sure how to efficiently slot Faris into the party...

Faris could be the best character in the game, how can you not slot her in?

4-6* Support/Celerity/Theif/Dancer/Machinist gives access to literally every strong debuff in the game. The BSB does all 5 breaks so with Mako Might you can afford to equip two other abilities since you don't need full break and a breakdown.

You have a ranged choice for her with the bow and can use swords for more damage/synergy. She even does a full 5 hit Thiefs Revenge.

The only problem is figuring out which abilities to bring and how to cast them all and the BSB commands in an efficient way.

I'm probably going to run a damage RM, Mug Bloodlust and Full Break on her for regular fights.

Is the dancer ability the same as protectga? I've got that slotted on Kefka right now and use him for Hastega.

I'm just not sure who to slot Faris instead of...

Bartz - relative break + Lifesiphon + BSB
Jecht - Lifesiphone + relative break + Boostga SB
Aerith - Shellga + Curaga + Medica SB
Kefka - relative -ja/-ga spell + Dancer Protectga + Hastega SB
PCecil - Saint's Cross + Banishing Strike + BSB

Bard is Protega/Shellga. That's the one thing she doesn't have!

You really want to drop Kefka but you'll need that haste... that's awkward. Save up for SG or Shout.

I would drop Bartz, Faris won't do as much DPS on her own (will be very close on bosses without ele weakness) but whatever combo of full break/armor breakdown/steal power/mug bloodlust you choose will make the entire team do more DPS and more than make up for it.

Everyone is doing cid missions with weaker realm teams without SG, so you could even try using a Shout RW and drop SG. That lets you drop Kefka for Bartz and gives you flexibility on Jecht.

You don't run a support?

Kefka is your obvious weak link, drop him. Cecil can run Protectga if you need it.

Faris with her relic has Full BreakDOWN and two stacking breakdowns that are missing from your party. That's just from burstmode. Like Chris said, for skills that frees you up to use abilities like Thief's Revenge (when you need hp) and Mug Bloodlust for most fights with versatility to drop one for whatever situationally useful skill the rest of your party can't take. Massive upgrade. Faris BSB is a massive damage upgrade and an even bigger mitigation leap, congrats!

I miss out on Hastega without Kefka, though I can actually just ignore it as I don't really need it on Jecht or Aeris, as the other three should be in Burst mode.

Last banner and this banner netted me Ramza bsb, Locke bsb, and Vanille super. Ramza's is kind of a waste because I pretty much use shout or tailwind as soon as I get a charge, but Locke's seems pretty good. The command with atk/mag steal stacks with pretty much everything right? So full break, breakdown, Vaan bsb, locke bsb would make anything with magic damage incredibly weak?

there's a softcap on debuffs, with diminishing returns past a certain point. but yeah, you've generally got the idea. even with the softcap, against some Ultimate and Ultimate+ bosses its still totally worth it to stack all those debuffs.

With regret I think I'm pulling on the Selphie 1 banner, I need 8/magic synergy.

VIII banners hate me for some reason. I'm not touching either of those banners with a 10 foot pole. I'm positive I'd go 1/11 with an off banner generic 5 star if I pulled on it.

Gave a final try to mote ifrit, failed again. I have 0 FF8 weapons, and only a 4*+ FF8 hat, and even with a regular team, that's simply not enough to win. Guess I'll catch him next time around, which will be after lvl 99's become a thing. Sucks I'm going to have to beat it with cheese like that, but I'm not going to dump mithril just for that one encounter.

These two FF8 banners are pretty crap in my opinion (at least, compared to a lot of the recent and upcoming banners). The grand prize is a dps relic for the realms only healer... how dumb is that? I'm going to try my hardest to beat this upcoming CM with 0 synergy, and if I can't pull it off, I'll just skip the CM. Add me to the list of people who won't be touching these banners at all (except for 100 gems).

Yeah, ATK/MAG is a killer debuff.

I'd highly recommend the 6* thief skill too - ATK/DEF steal, good on Vaan and Locke both. Even if it's "just" 20% I find it adds to my teams' damage potential and it's a nice buff to my already-powerful-bursted-way-beyond-softcap Thief.

Ok Quistis haste whip and Rinoa earth dress, so I've got a start now for CMs and have relics in every realm other than I and III.

I can try SG for Ifrit or maybe Celes BSB with atk/mag buff.

I can do one more pull so hopefully I can spend it on Knights.
