Oh please, everyone knows the best couple is Cloud & Barret

God i hope in part 2 or whatever this is possible. The voiced dialogue alone would be amazing. I laughed out loud when Tifa first saw Cloud dressed up and he cut her off saying "Nailed it, I know. Thank you. Moving on..." - Edited thanks to Cybsled's accurate correction.

Definitely well delivered. So much in the game was.

I DID run into my first annoying bug last night though that made me put the game down for a break. Was in the Shinra tower and at the part where you climb into the ventilation shaft. Apparently a bug a few people are reporting also affected me. If you eavesdrop on one of the conversations, it wont let you back out of it. It will say press circle to go back but it wont. Had to quit and load last checkpoint, which was 2 hours previously.

Been a while but I forgot FF was the series where the rule of thumb was save often, and save multiple times just incase one is corrupt.

Only bug I've encountered thus far is getting into fights with enemies that enter the room, or have dialog while they are fighting that just let you beat on them until their script is finished. Or the time Jesse got stuck on some stairs trying to walk into a house and just goose stepped in a corner for a solid five minutes until the game corrected itself.

It's 100% happening.

They put a "date" scene in this game when you sleep at Aerith's house after Sector 7 is destroyed, you get up in the night and meet someone in the flower garden.

You can get a dream scene with Aerith, a scene with Tifa... or a scene with Barret.

Criteria seems to be:
*Buying Aerith's flower/Having a drink with Tifa
*Doing 6 side quests with Tifa in Sector 7 Slums vs doing 6 side quests with Aerith in Sector 5 Slums (this is also how you choose their dresses)
*Talking to Aerith/Tifa first after falling into the sewers.

I guess if you don't do enough quests or choose wrong you get Barret.

I am heading into Wall Market right now and I have tons of materia and some are leveled pretty high already. I feel pretty strong. I'm curious how Square will balance part 2 in relation to how powerful you can get just in this first part of the story. I mean if you are level99 and already have maxed out elemental and healing materia and a good amount of purple/yellow materia already and you still have 90% of the game to go that's gonna be difficult to do. I would accept "Carmen Sandiego Yuffie stole it all, gotta go find her" and traveling the world looking for her being the bulk of the game until later on in the story when you would naturally have materia at that level. Or things will just be giant damage sponges I guess. Or time travel. We left all our shit in Midgar before we left oops.

Who knows.

You can only get 2 elemental materia and the level cap is 50.

Most of the materia is pretty basic. I would except a bunch of them to get new levels, like Mug on the Steal Materia or Flare on the Fire Materia.

Yuffie striking early (Kalm Inn during flashback?) and fucking off to Wutai immediatly would be hilarious and a neat solution. A lot of what they changed was to get the same emotional impact from events you know are coming, Yuffie doing this would certaintly achieve that.

I dunno how they will handle Red XIII, Cait Sith and Cid joining (and probably Vincent and Yuffie) when people are at lv50 already. Maybe they can just have the level cap go over 99 or have diminishing returns on exp?

I suspect they will do a soft squish. Your character being level 99 doesn’t change, but power curve and enemy difficulty scale you to the equivalent of 20 or whatever, so you get the same challenge.

Could just drop you into hard mode from the start to.

I liked the scaling in FF8 though, except for some reason bosses had a cap on how far they could scale.

Xenosaga carried over some minor scaling in episode 2 and episode 3 for levels in the previous game(s). I would assume they do the same thing for this one when they release the sequel in 6 - 10 years. Would be stupid not to.

The scaling in FF8 was lazy as fuck. Completely dependent on your levels and that was it. No thanks.

Hardmode in this game is no items and benches dont restore MP...I doubt they would do that lol

Before I get there. In hard mode, how do you restore MP if you can't use items or benches? Inns only? Or can you use items, just not in combat?

Two questions:

-What's a quick way to get Stagger to 300%? Enemies always die before I can get there. EDIT: Was originally asking about 200% but I found a quick way to do that just now: Use Tifa's Unbridled Strength move twice so she gets Rise and Fall, then triangle attack twice on a staggered foe strong enough to withstand it, done.

-I'm on chapter 14 and there's a ton of optional stuff to do like Battle Intel, optional fights, getting E-Skill materia and the four E-Skills, 9 sidequests, and leveling up materia. I really just want to go beat the game now though. How much of this stuff gets carried over to Hard Mode? Should I really do any of it now before going ahead with the rest? Ideally I'd like to beat the game to see what happens, then Hard Mode my way back up to Chapter 14 and do everything that's left that go-around, without having to redo all the side quests and battle intel I've done already.

Bonus question:

-Since someone mentioned Cloud eating ass on the gondola, if you were Cloud and could only do one, whose ass would you eat between A) Aerith, B) Tifa, C) Yuffie, or D) none of the above no ass-eating for me?

Two questions:

-What's a quick way to get Stagger to 200%? Enemies always die before I can do Aerith's beam attack or throw Tifa uppercuts once staggered. I think I got one to like 180%. There's a trophy for 300% which is way beyond me right now.

#1 - Tifa's uppercut (triangle attack) and if you use her first ability that powers her up, it does more. Will actually add stagger %. so you stagger, make sure s he's buffed, then upper cut a few times and hope the stagger lasts long enough. I think one of the chocobo summons can do it too.

#2 - Can't speak for the 2nd question, haven't beat it yet either. But I think anything you can take with you will be useful, especially for the experience boosts or AP boosts.

#3 - Remake's Tifa for sure.

Two questions:

1) There are abilities that increase stagger. Especially weapon abilities. Tifa gets a few. Though hard to do on regular enemies. Easier to do on mini bosses. I say mini bosses since several of the main story bosses have cut scenes / phases that trigger on stagger which cuts off the increase %.

2) When you finish the game, you unlock chapter select. You can then select any chapter and redo them on any difficulty and do the missing/extra content. There are three arena challenge stations in the game (one is only on hard more), and they include extra bosses (not tried them). Starting a chapter on hard more resets the chapter from the start. So you can just finish the game if you want and then redo the specific chapters, like 14, for the side quests. Finishing battle intel (especially the materia) will require a lot of grinding on normal. On hard exp is increased x2 and AP gain increased x3 I think. So the AP boost materia should then give 6x? The first two guards in the first chapter gave 12 ap which I think is more than many bosses in normal. EDIT: Everything carries over. When you finish the game, you are in the party menu for the game. You can arrange your party and materia however you want, and when you start whatever chapter you want, you will have the setup you selected before starting it. You have access to all materia and weapons you aquired through the game.

I did try the first mission again on hard, and died to the boss. Materia setup matters a lot there since you can't use items like phoenix downs and ethers. Shouldn't be hard to set up a fairly optimal setup with mana regen though as I think all characters have weapons for that.

It sounds like I could probably just finish the game off and do all of these things on ng+ while spending a lot less time on it (like materia). Gonna try to get E-Skill at least, then head towards the endgame.

If you do all of the quests up to Chapter 14 but not those last 9, then do them in Hard Mode, does that count for the "do all quests" trophy?

Don't know on the last one. Probably, since the chapter select lists completion stats like audio / manuscripts (every chapter has hard mode only manuscripts. Manuscripts are the items that give you 10sp). The tutorial screen also say something along the lines of "you can go back and do any quests you missed". So it'd be weird if it didn't keep tabs on your total progress.

Also, regarding question 1, the stagger. You really don't need to worry about trying for that in normal battles. Not really a spoiler, in a later chapter there is a boss with several stagger phases. The % carries over from the phases, so you will get closer to 500% just by beating it.

This is all good news, thanks. I got E-Skill, so I'm gonna plow through to the endgame now.

Enemy Skill only has 4 abilities and one is super late Hard mode, so definitely underwhelming for Part 1. This ties into my theory that there was supposed to be more NG+ stuff but they delayed simply to finish Normal mode. No DLC in a pandemic world either.

You're likely going to be doing chapters 3,8,9 three times if you want to get all the dresses and you have to do Chapter 9 twice on Hard mode anyways because you can only get 2/4 quests with manuscripts per run (and they are tied to dresses).

I probably will have to do a 4th run through of Chapter 9 simply because of dress versus manuscript situation. Annoying but whatever, tough to pre-plan first run throughs into that.

The entire sequence with Cloud walking around in a dress and ignoring Aerith til the remark to Tifa was hilarious.
