I don't know, the people behind FF seem kind of semi-woke at this point. As opposed to Dragon Quest's Yuji Horii who now routinely gets called a "nazi" on bluesky because he said something about the demands of western woke people being exhausting to try to deal with.

Mod sites for Intergrade were very careful with anything involving Yuffie and Nayo (the secretary character). Their mod comment was likely not about Tifa and Aerith but directed towards Yuffie since she is technically not 18 until Advent Children. They very specifically spelled out Elena as 18 in the Rebirth Ultimania for similar reasons.

Elena is supposed to be 18?

JRPGs are hilarious. You have these hardened combat veterans and elite special forces characters and they're all like 18 years old. The old grizzled veteran general types are like 26 at the most.
