I'm not sure what you're asking. There must be some confusion here. To tell the whole story in one installment would require them to include all the assets for the game. They're not going to tell the whole Cloud story from start to the death of Sephiroth in Part 1, then put Chocobo racing and side quest shit in Part 2 by itself. I'm just not getting what you're really asking here.
What I was asking is where did you read any of what you just wrote? Is that IGN link the only source of this? The IGN 'story' basically had no information other than they are releasing it in multiple parts.

This is what we've read:

According to Square, Final Fantasy VII Remake will be "told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience."

No additional details were provided, including any kind of price or release timing for part one.
Is there more info than that available about this? I'm just curious what "providing its own unique experience" means, other than taking more of our money.

Did you see the other article I just posted on the last page?

"One of the main reasons why we haven't done a remake until now is because it's a massive undertaking to reconstruct Final Fantasy VII from the ground up with the current technology," said Kitase. "To a great extent, we just couldn't take the plunge. Producing a proper HD remake of Final Fantasy VII that maintains the same feeling of density of the original results in a volume of content that couldn't possibly fit into one installment."

"If we were to try to fit everything into one installment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of Final Fantasy VII. But there would be no point in doing that," added Nomura. "For instance, players will be able to explore many different areas of Midgar in this game that they couldn't access in the original?if we're remaking this world, we want to add in areas like this and depict them with real detail.

"Of course, there may be parts that are cut from the original for various reasons, but with all the new depiction that we're adding to the game and the level of detail we're incorporating, the overall amount of content is only going to increase. I'm sure everyone is anxious about the schedule, and we want everyone to get to play the game as soon as possible, too. Drawing the line on that front is another reason why we're taking this approach."

"In addition to delving into these episodes more deeply, we're preparing a number of mechanisms and such," Nomura added. "To those who played the original version will know the important parts and understand the story from the beginning to the end. Also for these people, I hope that they can be surprised once again."

What they're doing is taking the original game, chopping it into X number of parts, fleshing those parts out more than they were in the original game, cutting some stuff here and there, expanding on stuff in other areas (example: Fleshing out Midgard more than it was in the original game), and releasing the whole game in several parts as a result.

The main story line will be told across these multiple parts as a result, it appears.

My Predictions

Part 1: Midgar Only. Very large city with expanded content/areas as mentioned. Ends with motorcycle chase & boss battle. 30 hours gameplay. 2017 release. $59.99

Part 2: Eastern Continent Only. Open world continent with expanded overworld side content. Ends with battle of Junon harbour. 70+ hours gameplay. 2019 release. $59.99

Part 3: Rest of World. Expanded main story + overworld side content. Finishes traditional story, but will be expanded through major paid DLC for several years. 70++ hours gameplay. 2020 release. $39.99

Also hats and dressup pussy shit from day 1.

Thank you. I asked(twice) if the IGN link was the only source. I missed that link.

I'm concerned. I save my freak outs for the Girls With Huge Buttholes thread.

My biggest concern is that you're going to have to start over at level 1 and not be able to import your characters and such from installment to installment.

That'll be a huge enthusiasm killer for me personally, and it won't make sense at all.

Hopefully they do away with player character levels entirely, and progression is a function of gear + materia.

Sure, my point is just, however they do progression, that shit needs to carry over from installment to installment.

Would just bug me to no end if you get your gear and materia and shit wiped out each installment. Wouldn't make sense to the narrative flow, either.

Seems unlikely. The tech has existed for years to upload game profiles to the Cloud (lawl) and download them at a later time.

Characters transferred to A Realm Reborn no problem, didn't they? I know ESO did it and that was across platforms.

My prediction - that is way off in timeframes and pricing - and I expect the content to be split more times than that.

I'd personally expect 6 parts (I'd say storyline parts but too long ago so it's not fresh) - $15 a piece. Every 3-6 months. Maybe a "Prebuy it all" at $60 price. ~20 hrs of content or so per "episode".

Remember, they just broke down Hitman like that - with a Season pricing. I think they're smart enough to know it would be jarring to say episodic twice in a row and have one be FFXIII style episodic while the other is standard episodic - from the same company, during a timeframe they'll likely overlap a little...

Having the characters transfer from game to game is more incentive to buy all the installments. I can't imagine themnotdoing that.

I didn't read where they said 'episodic' in regards to FF7. I read 'multiple parts, each with its own unique experience'.

Maybe you are expecting a linearly told 'story' rather than an open world game in the style of FF7? In which case, the model you suggest makes much more sense. This model makes a lot of sense for Hitman, but not so much for an 'open world' game like FF7.

Unless of course they do away with the open world all together, and use Highwind cutscenes to travel between locations.... Ugh

From what I have seen I do not hate any of this at all. It makes sense. It's going to work just like the XIII series. Which means I will wait until its done and buy it for cheap on a steam sale.
