3 separate games at 60 a pop, DLC missions for each 12 a pop, alternate costumes and weapon packs 2-5 bucks each. Calling it now.

I've never played Mass Effect 3, or any Dragon Age besides the Original (on steam) because of EA moving to Origin and off Steam. However, I still have a fucking copy of BF3 and 4, but no Hardline, No Battle Front. I'm just out on their business model now, but even I have still given their business model 240 dollars in the last 5 years, despite my objections. I'm probably your average gamer, with maybe more will power to not buy EA products.

If FFVII the Remake gets Witcher 3 style community praise on our boards and the only complaint is that it isn't the entire story. Given that they still got 60-80 hours of gameplay out of episode 1, the cut off point was tastefully done, and it doesn't take 10 years to release. Everyone complaining here will still likely have a copy anyway. I believe Final Fantasy Fanpersons to have low willpower to deny themselves Final Fantasy products.

Given Square-Enix's track record with releasing software, I'm actually OK with this contingent on the pricing not being too bad and the gameplay being good. I mean, who wouldn't want to have a more open Midgar to explore? Really though, Square-Enix has issues delivering software* and if episodic gaming is how they fix that, then it's fine by me if the games don't suck.

* FFXII was in development for 5 years, FFXIII something like 7 years, FFXV is going on 10+ years

Really just need to wait and see. Maybe FF7 (the whole game) will be just "episode 1" and they plan on doing a FF7-2 that maybe follows Cloud & Co. after the whole jenova/seph showdown. If they really do break the game down into parts (say Disk 1, one year later, Disk 2, one year later Disk 3) it's going to be god awful and waaaaay too much downtime. Unless the episodes get released only like a month later, but still, who wants to get into all the meat and potatoes only to have a huge downtime and then get right back into it.

It's going to be cool if they expand on Midgar, expand on some of the stories, battles, cities, etc but if they split it up so I only get Midgar > Kalm (Episode 1 over!) and have to wait another year before going Kalm > Temple of Ancients (Episode 2!) to another year for the Highwind (Episode 3!) to another year for the Crater (Episode 4!) to another year for Ultima/Ruby/Emerald Weapons (Episode 5!) I will be so disappointed.

I can already see all the "Fight Omega Weapon DLC!" or "Fight Mega Cactur DLC!" just because...ugh!

Fingers crossed, the entire FF7 game is "Episode 1" and they just plan on milking out the world & the characters over many other Episodes. FF7-2 TYE Girl Power (Tifa, Yuffie, Elena), maybe Tifa starts a female band or something and they use dress spheres followed by FF7-3, Cloud Returns, where he warps through time and space to stop Jenova before it all began!

Hmmmmm, I like it!

Fantasy 7 Remake will unfold over several entries, with each one "providing its own unique experience."

This makes me feel like it's going to be similar to the FF4 remake on Wii U virtual console

This could be the biggest backfire in gaming history. The combat looks shitty and repetitive.

You are dreaming. I applaud your hope, I wish I had some left for gaming companies.

IIRC my full gold chocobo KOTR playthrough was 110 hours. That was when I was a lot younger and not good at RPGs or gaming in general. The original game is not enough content for an episodic release by today's standards. Unless the 'world map' is a fully fleshed out open world of course. But that's wishfull thinking.

Blizzard got away with it with StarCraft 2. Story/gameplay-scope wise there was no real reason to break it into 3 separate games. People bitched about it at WoL announcement, but people are still playing SC2 regardless. That was $40 each or 10/10/40 now.

My main run was 134 hours before save game corruption and I did everything but the Weapons (corrupted in the middle of farming materia combos). Second run for strictly killing weapons was ~70 hours. Cutting that up into three games sounds a lot like breaking the Hobbit into 3 movies(a lot of bloat and not really any decent polish to show for it)....

110hours is like twice most games today, and that's the long ones.

There's a slightly more detailed interview, reason they went with episodic is because the game is too big and they would have had to cut a bunch of shit if they made it as a single game. Instead they're making it episodic and adding new content.

That doesn't really say if it's gonna be good or bad though. Could still be overpriced shit with slow releases, or fast releases at a good price with a bunch more content, we don't really know the details so will have to wait.

FF7 was nowhere near 110 hours of actual decent gameplay. That included 20 hours of grinding out master materia levels, 20 hours of chocobo racing/breeding, 10 hours of battle arena farming etc etc etc. The game was probably closer to 50 hours of real substantive gameplay.

I know you're trying to hyperbole your point, but if it took you longer then 4 hours to raise some chocobos you're doing it wrong.

Calm down, nerds. I don't remember you rubes bitching about how "episodic" Mass Effect was.

I don't know why the hell people were expecting a reskin of the original. That would be almost impossible to do (due to its age), but they'd also never do it justice.

I mean, I don't know what there is to be upset about. People get mad because there is no remake, people get mad when there is a remake. No one can ever just be happy that people are creating something that we all said we wanted. I had no expectation of this game being like the original. I have played the original probably 10+ times, I don't want that game. That game exists already. I want a completely new experience.
