Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Yeah at this point I just want to make a character anywhere just to dick around until I can make one on Marlboro.

edit: Tried 3 more servers and looks like I'm shit out of luck.

It looks like they've disabled the ability to digitally download the game. Anyone have a link to a torrent file so I can start preloading this? =p

Problem with that script is if you are put into a queue for a server, which basically all servers have atm, it cancels the queue and starts the process all over. So the script is kind of flawed from what i see.

Actually, even if you cancel out you don't lose your spot in the queue. I've read it in multiple posts and just experienced it myself.

Score! Tried one last time for the night and was able to start on one of the EU servers. Good enough for now.

So... what does the "battle effects setting" even do?

Edit: Nevermind, I do see the difference in glowy super saiyan shit now. I was looking to see if I missed a setting to turn off other people's damage numbers. Apparently nope.

I have a FFXIV CE code for PC from GMG if someone wants to buy it for $20. I didn't know if you have a 1.0 account you have to upgrade to CE from the Square site. This code will work with new accounts only.

I like how as long as you don't land near any boars, you don't actually fall to your death. Now if all games would just flat out disable falling damage we would be set.

Question. So I've heard this complaint, but I am wondering, if you have a different mount like Magitech, Unicorn, or Coerl, do you have to still mess with summoning and dismissing your chocobo as a pet to be able to mount up?

WoW found itself in the same position... they actually stopped pressing CDs because they couldn't fit any more players on the servers...

No, other mounts don't work.

Just killed Behemoth on the Behemoth server.

That was a massive cluster fuck. There was only a handful of level 50s (non-legacy server) and everyone but our tank was getting one shotted. Word spread fast that we had engaged him so people from all over were coming to participate which in turn started some really bad character culling. Fuck yeah level 20-30s everywhere.

It was a fun experience, but I don't think world bosses work very well with this engine only being able to render a certain number of players.

im pretty impressed so far with alot of things outside of the obvious retarded logging in/errors etc issues. Game itself is turning to be top notch and the most polished ride I've probably ever experienced. I don't care much for environment or story etc but I must amit they made TOR's "story telling" seem like a joke and made you actually want to pay attention. Also the amount of fates, mobs with different abilities, and attention to detail is just stunning. The primal fights are pretty awesome to leveling up, they really push a PUG in some areas and some of the fights in the 30+ instances and guildheists are a great challenge for non experienced raiders.

I've got locked out a few times but made alright progress. My Warrior is 45 i think and my 2 box BLM is 43, I thought combat was going to be cake with long gcd trying to 2 box but its more engaging then I thought it would be. I've managed to tank and dps at the same time in the zones up to the 32 instances but I was to chicken shit to try to tank and dps on the dragon end boss.

Anyways, there is plenty people can bitch at here and there but if you take it at face value SE really did redeem themselves from a quality perspective, this is the shit I'd expect from them. Alas....they have shown why you need to focus on all areas of the business not just ingame aspects because the shit they didn't have planned for on the admin/server side is just too bad to forgive. Also my own bitch, my BLM's cross abilities almost all suck horrible (my warrior i have like 8-10 awesome ones to pick from and BLM I basically have heal and damage increase unless I push for 34 on archer). Also my 5 unique BLM abilities all pretty much suck ass. Flare we will have to see....but all and all they are the worst set of job abilities across the board.

Black Mages should get a voidsent familiar from Arcanists. Their auto attack should be ranged and we should get the archer crit buff attack.

All my spells should be instant cast and I should have 3 hots that last 1 minute each so I can just DPS forever while putting hots on the tank, and my spells should hit harder than all the other spells in the game too.

3am, 10 minutes after the downtime..and im in a queue, wtf?

This has got to be the worst launch I've ever seen firsthand. 4 days and I haven't even been able to create a character, with every implication from Square being it could "be weeks" before Gilg is unlocked. Any other server requires spamming an AHK script indefinitely to even try to login, and even those are frequently locked outside of JP. News flash - you've launched a game easily still in the running for worst launch ever, with much of it aggravated by the sheer stupidity of your policies (like character lock, borked queue, no auto afk) and not even "normal" technical problems. It's as if you set out intentionally to make design decisions so shitty, that no reasonable human being could support them.

Shocking, really, that they could fail so badly when attempting to redeem themselves from prior launch failure with this relaunch. This mess is already in the running for worst launch yet and this is their second attempt.

They've definitely lost my two subs. I'm almost hoping I don't like the game much (if I ever get to try it), because it'll be that much easier to refund/charge-back it.

This sort of incompetence is wholly unacceptable and Square should be punished (economically). They have done all but ensured failure on any future online properties they attempt, having botched all 3 so far in historic ways. The sheer stupidity of the pattern of their decisions over time (FFXI NA players garbage-dumped on old JP Servers + random server allocation, FFXIV character creation lock with no queue at all, and a barely functional login queue) is fucking historic in this space. They're starting to make Brad McQuaid look like he actually might have some of his shit together.

Edit: Servers have gown down again after coming back up for maintenance. Took maybe 5 minutes? Must've been that killer 6am EST player load.

better than my situation, start button in-game greyed out, error 2002 and disconnected/exited within 30 seconds after starting the game. nice patch!

edit: 30 minutes after downtime... got past the start button monster... unable to update na/eu server list for the last 9 minutes.

edit: 6:40am, finally in-game... jp server list wouldn't update... I hope the influx of NA players crashed their servers so they feel some of our pain.
