FF online has never been mainly about end game. There are a dozen dungeons below lvl 50 that are fun to do on different classes/jobs. Agree with everybody who said that Fates have ruined the game for a lot of people and that's definitely SEs fault, though.
Making a boring grind of running around tapping mobs in Fates by far the fastest XP is a major, major fuck up.

I'm still having plenty of fun playing this, met a lot of awesome new buddies and most of us seem to be sticking around. I haven't even touched crafting which seems different the way I hear Mala and Zp talk about it all night. Since we're always seem to be short 1 healer we're for sure not burning out on BC doing it 1-2x a week.
The level 50 situation is abysmal honestly, just thinking about AK or CM makes me cringe. The pvp patch shitshow should have been out on release the same as the additional dungeons and primals.

You don't need to play 25+ hours a week to hit endgame in this game. At this point, with average playtime (maybe 10 hours a week), you would hit endgame if you leveled your main and did nothing else by now and it's only been a month. If you make the journey from 1-50 fast to the point where the average player is hitting cap before the sub runs out, you better have stuff to do at 50 and not fall back on 'make an alt and grind fates' or 'grind that one dungeon'.
It's less about the top 2% of players, and more about the top 20% of players needing things to do. There are plenty of non hardcore people at 50 already.

enjoying crafting and gathering like crazy. leveling everything at the same time is a great experience. Once in a while, I would join with a new group to get fucked and appreciate how much i prefer crafting compared to dungeons/instances.

No, meh. like many other guildies, i just started last week and it took awhile to get into it but it gets better somehow. not powerleveling though, so my experience may not be the same as other hardcore crafters.

I think it is hilarious that people are rushing to the top in a month or less expecting this massive amount of content when it is blatantly obvious the majority of the content is currently in the middle. You pretty well ordered a burger, asked for all your favorite toppings, dressings,whatever and then decided to eat each end of the bun tossed the rest aside and complained how much the burger sucked.
If you went into FF disregarding quests, storylines, FATEs, tradeskilling, dungeon crawling, guild heists, levequests, multi-classing, and everything else that is offered on the way up, what do you want? You may as well go play EQ2, get near max buffed and go raid. I'm forced to play casually so I'm probably getting a different feel due to my pace but I have a ton to do. I haven't even touched all the content. I just don't know if people even want progression and character development anymore. How did you guys stand EQ? We had two dragons and two planes for quite a while. Again, maybe my ultra casual schedule is scewing everything.

Oshi I forgot I have a bunch of guildhests I have yet to do. More money for crafting!
Didn't even have Planes for awhile. You had Sol B and LGuk farming, and Naggy and Vox for raiding. It just took an assload more time to get to that point than it does in MMOs these days.
Maybe that's the secret to making endgame content last longer? Just make it take 6 months to get to max level with brutal death penalties and a horrendous leveling curve!
