What's the advantage of using Dragon Kick over Virus? Do they stack?
They do stack. Virus also has poor uptime, it's like 10secs every minute or whatever the duration is. Dragon Kick is "permanent", at least as long as the monk is attacking. It reduces overall raid damage on every encounter by a fair amount, and Mantra helps a ton on the larger predictable burst which as I mentionned, basically happen every fight, it's a constant thing, at some point the boss goes into a phase change and does a super move that does a ton of damage and having mantra for these times makes a huge difference especially since a lot of them are tightly tuned. It's 20% more shields from Succor and HoTs from Medica II, plus it helps on the heals following it. Also stacks with the Fairy buff, although that fairy isn't used all that much.

Don't forget that Virus also has a long recast timer and a re-use debuff. Dragon Kick doesn't have either.

I didn't realize that Dragon Kick is permanent. That is quite good.

That's what I said, 10-15secs(I'm not sure about duration and I'm crafting so don't wanna bother switching classes to check) every minute. That's assuming you have 2 arcanists too, as the actual cooldown is longer than the debuff, think it's 1:30 cooldown so you need 2 people to rotate it, and the cross class version doesn't have magic, making it a lot less useful. It's great for bosses that can be debuffed during the cast of their big spells though, like the T11 boss that has autocrit on his big aoe at the end of the add phase, you definitely want to virus that.

In fact we did this boss last week with no monk, I had to summon Eos during the phase to make use of the 20%healing buff, so I could soil+virus+succor with the buff and we were barely surviving(I'm behind on gear so I had to adlo myself too). If you add a monk with mantra and dragon kick though? Way easier, you end up with like 1000hp more or something like that, so people who have weakness don't instantly die. Monk can then mantra everytime the boss does the big aoe and always dragon kick debuff it, which helps a ton. It's just a lot of less healing needed when a monk is in the group, AND they're still the top DPS.

I thought NIN was equal to or greater DPS? Maybe that's just skill talking, though.

Their stuff always looks so good. Honestly, even with seeing some of EQNext's stuff, I really think FFXIV is the best looking MMO out. I would need nothing more in terms of appearance. Wish I could have stayed with it. Some reason I just lost interest.

They're fairly close and depending on the fight higher. Like any fight where there's a decently long aoe phase, you can edge out monks by abusing Doton and Katon, so T13 tends to give a small edge to ninjas for example, and I think there might be Greased Lightning issues during certain mechanics while Ninja doesn't suffer from that. In a more static DPS race though, monk is a bit ahead. We're talking both 600+ DPS though, which makes the difference fairly irrelevant as the encounters are more balanced around 500ish DPS. Dragoons I think is at the same level. Bard however is more like 450, maybe 500 if they don't sing at all, but that's pretty far behind. BLMs/SMNs are 500-550, though can be as low as 450 depending on the fight and the mechanics. Advantage being, they're ranged, so spreading and shit isn't as much of an issue.

That said I'm going off parses I've seen and shit, maybe there's a god like Ninja somewhere doing 700DPS or whatever. Length of the fight and mechanics also contribute heavily. Currently it seems T13 might actually be the best fight to parse, which is kinda weird considering it's also the hardest.

Holy shit. I cannot believe the pace at which they are putting out content now. Gold Saucer, triple triad, chocobo racing, would all be half an expansion for any other MMO. For FFXIV it's just a bi-montly patch. Not to mention new raids, 5 mans, primal fights, armor tier, main storyline, etc. Hard to believe they are coming out with an expansion in a few months as well. Whereas WoW it's at least a year from last content patch to new expansion. Just shows what a capable team can do. I am very optimistic for the expansion.

Just resubbed for 3 months, not played since the initial free month, not in Isis anymore, so guessing I was purged a while back if you removed inactive members. Which I guess is ok considering it really isn't associated with Archer anymore.

That said, tried starting another character on an EU server (odin) as I remembered that the latency (I blame it on that at least...) caused trouble for me in the later fights that required lots of movement (Titan, and so on) playing on Gilgamesh. However, the inflation is real! I played the first 10 levels as I did when it launched, always picking money statue rewards, and figured I would buy some armor upgrades at level 10. So got to level 10 and checked the market board.

One piece of the level 10 quest rewards costs more than I have saved up, not spending a single gil up to level 10. Hell even the level 8 gear costs 4-5k. Checked some more and level 20 gear was going for 30k+ Just ... what? Housing was 14+ million.

On my level 50, I have 150k.

Are prices the same on all servers? Unless they have severely ramped up the money rewards later on, I don't see how a new player can ever afford anything. It is easily 10x as expensive on the marketplace now than it was when I played last.

@Droigan:

It's not too hard to make money at 50. To use myself as an example, I'd say I had about 300k going into 2.1. By no means am I a crazy crafter, nor do I saturate the market with stuff. Just strictly from making gear to fill out crafting logs, and 6+ months of doing duty roulette, I'm sitting at over 3mil. Even a low level roulette earns you a few thousand gil, more if you're the role in need.

Also, you're trying to buy gear from the market board, presumably for levelling your first class on the EU server. Stick to the in-game vendors until you hit your mid 40s.

Marketboard items are more expensive because people leveling alts are too lazy to go get gear, etc. As far as sub-20 gear, most all pieces can be bought from vendors in town for much cheaper than the marketboard. Most people relist stuff on there to make easy money off clueless people. Most of your gear will come from questing and vendors though, until you start running dungeons around 16, then you will use quest gear and dungeon drops. A good thing to aim for too, is your Grand Company Seal weapons. Generally they are much better than anything in that level range, and will last you about ~10 levels each.

Once you hit max level, gold is much easier to come by than it used to be, even if your not a crafter or whatnot. Materia from the story quest alone at 50, nets you probably a million or more on the marketboard if you sell them all. And retainer missions are can net you some high price items once in a great while.

Half the server D/C's right when Levi's pony drops.

Classy, SE.
Figured a year and a half after launch this stuff would be fixed.

Most of the connection issues lately are routing to the servers shit, a lot of comcast people affected but a lot of other people not affected at all(including myself playing from europe). Though the servers crash from time to time, but overall it's fairly stable. US internet on the other hand, another story.

Droigan, on euro servers btw, they're not actually located in europe yet, so picking a euro server doesn't do much, other than obviously having more people on at the right time. I think they're planning to actually open the euro servers for the expansion. It's possible they offer free transfers at that point, we'll see. They did some work on the netcode back in 2.1 or something and overall I haven't had a major issue since I came back, once in a while I still get a lag spike messing up something(mostly instant cast getting jumbled together and cancelling each other) but the moving out of shit works perfectly fine, other than the disconnect between check for position/animation going off, which is just how the game works. As long as you're out of the ground stuff when it disappears/the boss finishes casting, you don't get hit.

On money, there's way less people crafting low level shit, and most people leveling are people with alts who don't really care much about spending 5k on a piece of armor. You should not take the gold rewards on quests anymore and instead take the gear(unless it's not an upgrade obviously). Vendor gold is garbage. Note that inflation works both ways, it also means you can craft some lowbie shit and make good money out of it. Last time I checked for example you can still convert silver ore into silver ingots(which is a lvl 20ish goldsmith thing and can be done afk with quick synth, which doesn't have a fail chance anymore if you have enough stats) and get like 500g per combine, and a lot more for the random crits.

Droigan, if you want a reinvite, find one of us online and it's no problem. There were purges of inactive players back in the day, yep.

Exactly 0 people have asked which ISIS we meant. I should think it would be obvious.
