What's the test case? Disable 2nd monitor that's 1080p 60hz, then run FF14 in Borderless Window, and see if I'm still 60 FPS capped?

Yes. But I can pretty much already tell you that it's what the issue is. Dual monitors with different HZ don't play well together thanks to Windows 10 being poorly designed. If that 60hz is showing anything that makes windows want to apply vsync to it: your entire system is going to be limited to 60hz. Having a second high refresh monitor fixes this issue (but also brings other problems)

Yea, so it looks like going Full Screen is the way to go, with uncapped FPS in game, and just go with it. That's fine for me, but it's odd, because I know for sure that I've been past 60 FPS, in Borderless Window, but that could of been when I didn't have anything at all on my 2nd monitor? Hence it wasn't capped at 60 for that session or whatever?

Could be. Back when I used to notice shit like that I'd be watching twitch/youtube etc.. on the 60hz monitor and would notice my FPS cap out at that.

Watching videos or anything involving hardware acceleration in browsers are the usual suspects. Also keep in mind that monitoring software can still show you having higher FPS, despite windows only allowing 60. If nothing is running on that second monitor, then the problem won't kick in, unless windows gets stuck in vsync mode (happens) at which point you sometimes need to disable/enable the monitor, or reboot to unfuck it.

But won't your mouse be stuck or unable to move to your second monitor if you play in full screen with a dual monitor setup with FFXIV? I was having that issue and had to tab out to move my cursor to my 2nd monitor.

I decided to resub since the Shadowbringers cinematic got my hyped.

Gone from PC to PS4 and I play a White Mage so looking for some help:

1) I've never actually been able to cope with keybinds on PC so the controller feels a lot better selecting spells, but targeting feels much worse. Any macros, UI changes or button remapping to make things better with a PS4 Controller?

2) I remember the Realm Reborn patch MSQ being unbearable when I resubbed for Heavensward and here I am again going through the Heavensward MSQ patches, I belive that I've just finished patch 3.1... I've got 4 more patches to go before playing Stormblood? Should I kill myself now or is there a way to say "You know what, I actually despise Minfilla, can we abandon her?".

3) I got really confused with stats and I think I chose the wrong welfare epic rewards at the end of 3.1. I chose the Intelligence gear to help me DPS in solo quests, but my damage stat went down... so am I just going for Mind gear as a Healer no matter if I'm Solo DPS or Party Healing?

4) If I wanted to chage class to, say, Dark Knight - how long will it take to get it to Stormblood? I'm probably only playing for 1 month.

I forget the patch numbering for HW, but HW MSQ tail was a lot shorter than ARR. You'll know that you're getting towards the end of the HW storyline when they introduce a character named 'The Hawk'.

DK starts at level 30. You could easily get to 60 within that month if you run your roulettes every day and use squadron command missions.

I been solo farming with my RDM ARR primal extremes and got all the ponies in a few hours except for Ramuh's. He's my last in order to get Kirin mount. Any protips for soloing this guy?

As a RDM not sure, I did it a few times on PLD until it dropped. Mostly pick up balls so you get the buff so you don't get murdererd by his nuke, refresh it, then heal to full before you let it drop and get 3 more. Should be fairly doable since RDM has more damage than PLD so the fight is shorter, plus you can burst the adds from range easily which is the part where a lot of damage is taken.

Not sure about controller sutff, only used it for basics. HW MSQ is a lot shorter and a lot better, so shouldn't be an issue. Healers always use Mind as their main stat, for both damage and healing. They changed that back in HW or SB I forgot, in ARR they used to use int for DPS and had to use cleric stance shit and it was terrible. So yeah just get mind gear all the time. Leveling another class doesn't take too long but it depends on how much you play obviously. You get basically a lvl guaranteed off the leveling roulette+a little bit(or rested xp), and you can get another level from other roulettes+other shit, and that's only going to take you like an hour total. Can get levels pretty quick early on in potd too, so you could do 30-50 in like a few days only and then you'd basically be 10days of roulette away from 70, so no big deal.

Spoilers for Heavensward:

Took me a full day but I think I'm at the end of Heavensward patches now, Papalymo just died to put Shinryu in an egg, saving The Empire from it's wrath???

The whole Hawk thing and surprise primal summoning was pretty fucking good until I considered that it was even better in 1996 when it was in the Berserk Manga and Final Fantasy Tactics already subtly ripped it off with much more imagination. I think they dropped the whole Illbert? betrayal storyline way too early in the expansion to bring it back up right at the end though, I'm only fully remembering it now I'm typing up my comments.

I did really like how they made the Magitek look threatening now, though that's by taking even more designs from FF6 lol. I remember FF7 and FF8 where they managed to make loads of memorable mechs that followed the style of their game without copying old stuff :/

The only other thing which was anywhere near good was saving Einstinien but I feel like I already did a big battle on that bridge and fought that boss. Battling Knights of the Round was WAY more epic a finale than just some ugly dragon, should have had them summoned again. Maybe Warriors of Darkness had it's moments too, but it was a lot of whiny ego shit.

All the stuff with Minfillia being some sort of galactic entity now and Shiva fucking a dragon was REALLY weird in a bad way. I also did like 3 dungeons, 3 instanced battles and 500 teleports and talking to NPCs at different locations. They even made me do the chocobo ride from Horizon to Waking Sands 3 more times the sadistic assholes.

Phew I feel better after that rant.

LOL I know at least one person who has deliberately suspended progression on the MSQ for whatever reasons and I'm pretty sure that would be a spoiler for him.

That's the part where I was messing up. Not fully healing up before I drop the buff. The lightning would kill me while I started getting my stacks to 3 again. I'll try again when I get off from work.

There's a bit of RNG sometimes depending on how your buff drop line up with his attack. Try to find 3 balls close together and pop sprint to reduce the amount of time needed.

Alternatively not sure about DPS reqs, but you could over stacking several times instead of trying to let it reset. If you DPS fast enough it might not be an issue, maybe, just you can't heal yourself once you have too many stacks so you need to calculate it properly.

If you're in a FC or whatnot you could also see if someone wants to help/needs the mount. With 2 people it's much easier I think(just make sure you wake up each other with the circles) and the time saved should even out needing a 2nd mount. Worst case scenario, try to find a BLU who needs the skills, they don't contribute much but it'll help a bit.

I finally was able to get his mount and get Kirin. I think this fight would be way much easier as a WHM. I could keep my hots rolling on me while I dps him down. I just found myself constantly healing myself so his thunder wouldn't kill me. This was definitely the most difficult one out of all them with leviathan being 2nd.

Gonna start and try to get into SB primal extremes group for dog runs. I really want that 9 tailed fox mount.

Making the gear more generic with all melees having the same gear would make sense though and would reduce how many armor sets they have to make(to compensate for having to make more for the new races).

In a game where gear progression is 99% about appearance it leaves me cold at the thought of only 2/3 sets split between melee and ranged per large update cap. Granted, in FFXI most non-raiding ninjas rocked a scorp harness, byakko's, and o-hat for years upon reaching 75.

If they're not going to go down job-based sets similar to what they give each 10 levels of character progression post 50 would it be better if they found a way to randomise gear stats so there's more of a hook for the players to farm the optimal pieces, similar to Destiny 2?

Also, appreciate this is bumped from a few pages back but I'm teetering on resubbing due to a friend firing this back up but the gear grind and obsolescence is a significant contributing factor to my previous unsubs.

Many sets are already limited like that though. The ninja set is often a recolor/slightly modified brd/mch gear, and DRG often gets recolored/slightly modified tank stuff. Not all sets, I think 8man raiding sets are still unique, but look at the 24man stuff for example, there's not that many. And they already did that forever with caster/healer sets, which often are just the same set, one is white, other is black.

Them squishing more sets together wouldn't have that much of an impact, and honestly considering how much trouble they seem to have making new gear, I think you might want to get used to the idea earlier than later if you don't want to be disappointed. Look at how many dungeon sets are just previous expansion sets(24man or crafted or whatever). They already can't make sets for every role/class for all content, and adding 2 more body types, even if they're relatively similar to existing ones, means they'll probably keep going. And in a way, that's not such a big deal, them releasing older expansion gear but equippable by different classes/with different colors(or better yet, dyeable) is pretty good, there's a lot of the old sets that look great.

Each job still would have their own unique AF, and you'd still get a lot of different gear sets with raids/tomes/24man/crafted/dungeon(sometimes) for each major patch, then the PvP set. Just the role set would be really only one set per role, rather than one set per role and 2 classes getting their own version because of some legacy stats differences.

Most of the appearance customization comes from glamour nowadays anyway, with specific glamour items.

Gear set from tomes / raids / alliance raids are mostly boring with one good thing here or there.
