WoW had the same problem.

The vanilla sets were iconic and there were a few good ones in Burning Crusade (Priest Black Temple Set).

Past that the design became very forgettable so they stopped bothered making unique sets for each class in every tier.

I just want to look like a White Mage from Final Fantasy 1. I've just glamoured the lv50 set lol.

I think there's plenty of decent new designs. For example on casters I use the Bonewicca set, shit's pretty awesome other than clipping issues with certain animations.

For the others I use older designs though but I don't vary much, my tank set is World of Darkness gear(I think), Healer is also World of Darkness(although this one was re-released as a crafted set in this expansion, I just use the old one cause I'm lazy), Monk uses mix of 2.0 and 3.0 crafted stuff and gatherers use Anemos(which is just the gathering SB leveling set, but it was cheaper to buy the Anemos glamour ones and they work on other classes if I want).

I want the shiny armors from Hydatos but this shit's so slow to farm I'll wait for the nerf in may or whatever to finish that farm. Need like 250 crystals just to finish the weapon already but fuck getting them 7-10 at a time.

It's not that bad. You can check in on the BA discord for your datacenter and see when the next BA run is happening and get an easy 30 crystals from the support nm. Even without that hydatos has been the easiest farm for me.

Shire caster set is just fucking awesome looking. And it lasts you to 70 easy peasy. Hit that yesterday on SMN and did the rest of the class quests. Turns out AF3 also looks great.Still haven't finished the first set of MSQ quests in SB, but I know I will be farming all over again once I do. Going to take a few days to get MCH and maybe BRD up to 50 so they can inherit my dailies, then let RDM and BLM do MSQs. 3 months to go before ShB drops, so MSQ isn't in much of a rush. I want to get as many jobs to 60 as I can before then as well. Will miss that buff when it's gone.

Don't believe the whole "Eureka is optional" spiel like I did. As fun as getting o12s was, weekly coin raids and all the ex trials, the real endgame takes you through Eureka and the rewards reflect that.

In fact after I realized that, I went back and did all the old raids and sure enough, they weren't really "optional" either. One of the first raids has a fully CGI-rendered cutscene that explains everything that happened during the calamity and you would TOTALLY MISS IT if you bought into "raids are optional content" buzz.

Well it's still optional. It doesn't mean the optional content isn't worth doing, there's a lot of side stories that are really interesting and well done. Still is optional in the sense you don't have to do them to keep doing the MSQ and unlock new stuff, but the original Coil, the current Ivalice 24man, the 2.0 24man Crystal Tower(probably, based on what we know about 5.0), Eureka, Hildibrande, the Edda storyline, the Moogle Post are all fairly interesting bits of story and characters(well Hildibrande is pretty special but still), and there's more. Every piece of content pretty much has story tied to it, and builds up the world bit by bit and makes it more interesting, even stuff that's fairly standalone(like Alexander storyline).

I'm in full prep for Shadowbringers mode now, so I'm not really focusing on top tier gear.

I found this raid tier to be generally pretty fun. I really liked the final boss of the omega tier, I think that the mechanics were actually pretty fun (especially compared to alphascape 2 savage).

I want to get NIN and SMN to 70 before the expansion, so I'm slowly plodding away at those. I also changed server because of the Data Center changes, but it meant I could actually get a large house.

You had no issues getting a larger house? I thought about server transfer after the NA data server redistribution hspoens but the server I'm on there are no or minimal que times compared to a larger server like Gilgamesh. I guess it doesn't really matter which server you're on since you will be able to visit other servers.

I'm also ShB prepping myself. I'm almost done with pagos on my Drk. (Fuck pagos) I just need 4 more lights and his weapon is done then off to pyros ect. I still got my Pld left for Eureka and I may do him if I can tolerate pagos again. I'm either maining Pld or Drk depending on how bad/good they rework Drk job. If good then Drk as main tank and Pld as secondary tank. Rumor has it that Drk and War will be main tanks while Pld and Gunbreakers will be off/support tanks. Honestly that's a terrible idea if you ask me. I just don't see that happening. I'm going to finish leveling my WHM then my Brd and either my Sam or Drg depending on May's live letter for job changes.

I'm probably gonna start up again soon for the 18th time. Not really playing with anyone though. Maybe that is a mistake.

I want to play this I think but won't be able to until late June. I'll check back in then and see if anyone still has interest.

Well new expansion is July 2nd so I would assume a lot of interest then
You mean June 28th. (Early Access)

May's battle system live letter cannot come soon enough. :( If it's the same as with Stormblood, it gunna be gud. Didn't get bored for a second during that one, and it was over 3 hours long with a small break during the job action trailer (and then they did a commentary on it to explain some of what we were seeing like Summon Bahamut).

I don’t expect anything as drastic as hw to sb. Mana/TP are being rolled into one and it sounds like stats might be shuffled/rebalanced, along with ability prune/consolidation. I suspect we’ll see the biggest changes with tanks and healers.

To the contrary, I expect huge changes. Every time they've been asked about the tank/healer revamp Yoshida has kept basically saying "we can't talk about it specifically because, there are a lot of systems intertwined and that depends on each other".

At this point I'm almost expecting some core mechanics/aspects to change.

Especially considering the primary reason they gave that Dancer wasn't a healer job was because they're in the midst of major revamp of the heal/throughput paradigm amongst the existing healers.

Mainly the white mage a total rework.

I kinda expect SCH is going to get some pretty big changes too, the class is bloated as fuck in terms of skills, you just can't fit new shit on that class without removing a bunch of stuff, but everything has a place and is useful sometimes, so I think it's going to get some streamlining and shit.

But yeah I'm expecting large changes in the may live letter, if it's small stuff I'll be fairly disapointed. But some classes will have to change a bunch anyway. DRK is getting a rework, MCH is probably getting a solid pass, WHM is getting probably a full rebuilding, then PLD is probably going to get a fair bit of changes due to TP/MP merge. I also think they're probably going to shake things up AGAIN so tanks stop stacking DPS stats, also maybe unfuck the whole "if you meld anything but str in accessories as a tank you're a fucking retard" thing. I'm also not sure if they're happy with NIN/DRG meta-ness and NIN being so far behind on personal DPS but still being a top tier class due to all the unique utility(specifically, all the threat shit, which massively improves tank DPS). Oh and role class skills are getting yet another rework I assume, since they kinda gave up on the concept half way through SB by letting people just take all of them and shit.

So yeah, big things.

So looking for some direction, with the expansion coming so soon, as to what to do. Leveling isn't a problem, but I have my 70 BRD, and I dabbled a bit in Eureka, and am up to level 9. So nothing really. I heard at 9, I can get the way points, so I can just run around the NM trains now? Or join Challenge Log groups, and keep knocking those out every week.

But I've got purple or is it blue? ++ quests all over the place, and not sure what those are for? Should I just be grinding those out? I've got my MSQ totally done. Is it going to be a complete gear reset like WoW does it come the new expansion? or will grinding out top tier gear now be useful?

Also, I have a ton of quests in my Journal for doing different dungeons and stuff I've picked up along the way, but I've never actually done the dungeon. Does this matter? My buddy said there's Alliance raids that can be done from the duty finder?

You'll wanna do NMs in eureka until you get 900 genesis tokens. Eureka is the fastest way to cap out genesis tomes hands down, and since the cap was raised to 900 last week, you'll wanna stick with the NM trains to cap them.

With the genesis tomes you can get 390 gear, then do the Ivalice 24-man raids for the coins. With one of each coin from Rabanastre, Ridoran and Orbonne, you can upgrade one piece of 390 Genesis Tome gear to ilevel 400. Note that while you can farm Rabanastre and Ridoran as much as you want, you can only get one piece of 390 loot and one coin from Orbonne per week---which means you will only be able to upgrade one piece of 400 per week.

Aside from those you can do Seiryu EX trials to get a 395 weapon or farm o12s to work towards your omega gear/405 weapon, but the Eureka relic weapon is bis with only a few rerolls of the substats.

And it's still useful to gear up right now. If it's like Heavensward and Stormblood, high end gear won't be replaced by shit until around lvl 76 or 77, so you can keep quest rewards for another job.
