I have never adjusted to the smaller 1/4" needles. Of injectables I take 4-6 shots of Humalog and 1x shot of Lantis and its 50 bucks for each for 3 months worth. The more expensive thing is the Dexcom G6 CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring) sensors, those things are more like 100 bucks a month, $300+ every 3 months. So much better than 6-8 finger sticks a day, though

Edit: I will reuse the Lantus pen needle for the whole life of the pen (6 injections at least). The Humalog pen needles I last until they start it stops being painful and starts being injurious. ;) A new one every day, though, for the one I carry with me to the office.

Can diabetics take advantage of the free needle programs that are all over near larger cities?

i dont hail from the cities so im not really sure how many you can get with needle exchange programs, like 1 a day or a bag of em or a 1 for 1 thing but theoretically im sure you could as long as you use old school syringes and not pens. prescription runs out swing down with a 3 month supply sharps container. if you got no shame in your game i doubt the needle people handing out spikes for heroin ask too many questions.

Ya, you guys are more adventurous than I am. I use a new needle every injection and end up getting a new box for $50ish every 20 days with 4 Humalog and 1 Lantis a day.
