I think it's fine if you are going dual monitor with it. But ultra-wide for gaming is pretty meh, I just feel like the top and bottom of my screen is cut off all the time.

I'm with Kiki Kiki . I stopped gaming on my ultrawide because everything was either cut off, or stretched where you got a weird look on the sides. I know more modern games now support UW but do you want to PLAY a modern game?

Debate : Going wide curve, 49". Looking at this one :
https://www.amazon.com/LG-UltraGear-5120x1440-DisplayHDR-DisplayPort/dp/B0BY3W5NST Then possibly setting one of my existing monitors, (or one of my spares in the workshop) beside it in portrait mode for work purposes.
I was in that position and decided against it. The 49" is so wide that it takes a lot of desk space. Putting another monitor next to it, even if in portrait mode, isn't going to be a great experience when the things on your second monitor are important and you constantly have to tilt your head.

I bought an LG 3840x1600 monitor and have a 27" next to it. Next logical step up would be a full 42" 4K screen, that would increase the width slightly from around 34.7" to 36.6", but you get the full height. For reference, the 49" has a width of 47.2" - without borders and bezels that is.

I now have a 42" OLED with a 38" IPS ultra wide curved above it. I like this setup because it lets me use a huge screen for whatever I'm doing and I get 2 full size windows above it. So typically it's two browser panes on top. I can also just keep some passive games up on the top monitor while doing other stuff as well.

A 42 costs the same as an ultrawide and you get double the screens. No brainer. I run 2 and a document monitor for a total of 9 screens at work. I've tried Dell, LG, and Samsung, all work fine. The Dells are cool because they have built in KVMs for like $700? Shit's cheap nowadays.

Last night after watching a few hours of videos I bought the Asus PG32UCDP WOLED instead of the PG32UCDM QD-OLED.

I just read over and over again more people were having eye strain and headache issues with the QD vs the matte WOLED.

Thing is I’ve never used either monitor so I have no idea if I made the correct choice based off that as maybe that isn’t even a thing for me. I’ll be using this monitor for work as well as games. Everyone universally accepts that the QD has better colors BUT I’ve also read even that is negligible.

I also saw a few times people mentioning text for office work was better on WOLED which is a concern for me.

At the end of the day I’m sure they’re both fine. We’re talking about upgrading a 5 year old Dell 1440p VA monitor here soooo…enough over thinking.

Question:
Is there a difference in calculating Resolution and DPI of a monitor? I feel like I'm having a brain fart.

I'm currently running a Predator XB273K S, which at 27" is plenty big for my needs. It can also hit 4K resolution. I'm just curious if it's as crisp as it could be. I remember the difference between Apple phone screens looking WAY better than other phones back in the day because the DPI was so high on them. ( If memory serves )

DPI .. dots per inch. It's how compact the pixels are. Both a 27" and a 32" monitor can have a resolution of 2560x1440 but the 27" will have a higher DPI.

With that said, DPI isn't going to make much of a difference to the eye anymore. You're not trying to stretch native 1080 on a 77"

WOLED is fine. I think the eye strain issues are from resolutions lower than 4k for QD-OLED. You won't really notice the color difference that much.

Yeah I figured as much honestly.

Internet people love to talk about minutiae but when it comes down to seeing shit in person, I’m guessing the average person doesn’t even see a difference.

I believe WOLED is worse for text by a significant amount. But nobody reads text at native DPI at 4k, so it probably doesn't matter.

“Significantly worse” is surely hyperbole. Some people said it was slightly worse, some people said it was a wash.

After 2 days of working with this monitor as far as office tasks go I see little to no difference from my old 1440p monitor. Like, yep, it’s a monitor. I can’t imagine a QD being any better or worse…it all just looks like text to me in outlook.

People nitpick small shit way too much and it’s easy to get caught up in it.

OLED while gaming, yeah, it is leaps and bounds better.

I see in my message above I said “office is better on woled” where I meant to say QD.
