This is a pretty good deal on the AW3423DWF:

15% off and if you use the capital one shopping extension (you don’t need a capital one card) you can get 30% rewards back* +$45 in rewards* if this is the first time installing and using the extension.

If you use Amex, you can pop an additional $50 - $100 off the price.

*the 30% capital one rewards isn’t cash back, but through gift cards that you can select and redeem. No Amazon or Walmart but there is HomeDepot/Ace/Lowes/Chewey/PetSmart

Great deal made insane if you can get all the rewards to pop for you.

Which one did you end up getting? I'm finishing up a 9800 / 3070 Ti super build and need a new monitor. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth going the cheap route and getting an IPS or going big for OLED. I have an OLED TV, so I feel I will be missing out if I don't get it. 1440P sounds like the sweet spot, but 4K would be nice. Would I notice much difference at lower frame rates?
I got the one I linked; the MSI MPG 271QRX.

I've had it for a couple weeks now and it's an impressive monitor but after spending 8 years on my last IPS, making the change felt a little awkward at first. I had to screw with the settings quite a bit to get it to feel right in most situations.

One of the notable 'issues' that I encountered is that OLEDs are quite a bit less bright than IPS panels. So the OLED felt a little dim at first, but I quickly got used to it and the colors are definitely much more rich. Also, it goes without saying that the blacks are astounding.

I've also had to learn about HDR and how it works. For a lot of people, turning HDR on makes colors looked washed out, but the reality is that the color production of non-HDR images are very, very often oversaturated. The accurate color production of HDR seems a lot less vibrant, but once you get used to it the colors of a monitor without HDR look 'cartoony.' Now, the oversaturation of non-HDR is immediately noticeable and looks terrible. Of course, this is only true of monitors with 'good' HDR. A lot of monitors don't have it. For example - HDR 400 is pretty much garbage. Fortunately, this monitor has significantly better HDR quality.

Overall, the picture is is amazing, but it comes at a cost. Q/OLED monitors are not set and forget. You're going to be messing with the settings depending on what you're doing (gaming, productivity, watching movies, etc.). It can be a little annoying and that irritates me for what these monitors cost. Thankfully, changing the settings is quick, but I still hate that I need to do it.

Unless you have money to burn and don't mind fiddling with the settings, I'd stick with a top-tier IPS for another generation (or two) of OLEDs until the nagging issues with the technology are ironed out.

I pulled the trigger on the one below. It is currently $600 on BestBuy, which is $100 cheaper than the one previously mentioned. However, according to my research, it comes with no RBG on the back, 15w USB-C instead of 90w, and no KVM. Other than that, everything else is the same.

I strongly considered that one myself, but I was able to get the QRX for the same price as the QPX (yours).

Great deal, but I wouldn't buy that monitor for two reasons.

1. Curved. Just not for me.

2. Anything bigger than 27" just doesn't work for me. My eyes have to travel too much and it gives me headaches. I tried 32" for several months just to make sure and I was salty as fuck to have to accept that I can't use larger monitors because I liked it were it not for the headaches. A lot of people find 27" to be the sweet spot. In fact, pro gamers almost exclusively stick to 24"-27". Though, in the past, some of that was due to limits of tech on refresh rate.

I’m glad you brought up preferences for “pro gamers” in a message board where the average age is mid 40’s mmo players.

Im sure we have a fair number of casual dads here - but I assure you, there are more sperg "pro gamers" here than you think. Its like a dude that benches 405 having body dysmorphia and thinking he's weak af. Compared to who? Jay Cutler in his prime or something? Not saying we have a bunch Team Liquid Maximum or whatever other esport faggots are out there, but the "average" person here is definitely not some low IQ retard.

Dont think Ive played a game with you, ever. Always welcome to join one of our sideshow's in a new popular game.

The only pro gamers I know who used to post here was nony and as far as I’m aware he stopped posting here years ago. There might have actually been one more besides him, also in RTS gaming. Outside of that, yeah, I’m fully unaware of others existing unless we’re now calling competitive gamers pro gamers now. The majority of the people here fit in Tucos PRX category where they hit something hard for a month or two and then quit, something I’ve personally experienced several times over the years here with FoH. Is that the sideshow you’re referring to or is there some other organized FoH group?

I only mentioned "pro gamers" to illustrate that even extreme users tend to steer away from larger monitors. How you interpreted it as anything other than that is completely lost on me.

If entirely depends on distance to the monitor. I like a deeper desk and sitting back. Larger format monitors are completely viable. I'm not 16 anymore and I don't have a desire to lean forward into a 14" monitor anymore. If you're at a desk right up next to a monitor 32" is about as big as is practical.

Distance is a good point.
I'm the guy who sits all the way back/up top at the movie theatre because I don't want to be swinging my head all over the fucking place like a ragdoll.

“Pro gamers” typically care about maximizing response time and refresh rate, as that is what gives them the advantage in their line of work, particularly in FPS. The “24 - 27” inch sweet spot was considered the sweet spot years ago because that was the size of monitor you could get away with at that time while maximizing your competitive advantage without the refresh rate, response time, and input lag going to shit. Technology has advanced to the point where this advantage is no where near what it used to be, and can even be argued that UW provides the biggest advantage now due to better FOV gains in these games. The irony is the pro gamer esport scene tends to regulate specs now anyway so the entire point is moot to begin with.

What seems to be lost on you, and the point, is why even bring this up? Mentioning ”pro gamers”, “monitor size”, and “extreme users” in reply to an UW OLED and how “extreme users tend to steer away from larger monitors“ is like talking about street racing specs when the unit in question centers around luxury and entertainment. Who here really cares what pro gamers use when you’re buying something for the sole point of luxury and entertainment?

in highschool 90s, my new computer lab came w/ these
640428ef19208f105468d963f800cfe2.png

only this was the 90s, so it was a huge crt tube touching our knees, was it a drafting computer desk? idk
We had these in 11th or 12th grade and because the monitor was below the desk the programming teacher couldn’t see when we installed Quake and played CTF all period instead of doing whatever dumb Pascal or VisualBasic exercise we were supposed to be doing.

Walmart gift cards are occasionally on Capital One rewards.

OK, reading through some of this thread it's making me think a monitor upgrade might be in my best interest..

Current situation, dual monitors. :
left side : LG Ultra HD 27" running at 3840x2160. Has a one pixel wide vertical line which developed a while ago. Only the red in that line, so depending on what's on the screen sometimes you don't even see it. My OCD demands this get fixed.
Right side : Samsung 32" curved running at 2560x1440
Card : Nvidia RTX 3070

Situation, every 4 years my company ahs a refreshing stipend for "home office" gear, and that includes monitors. So I essentially have $500 worth of the new setup covered.

Debate : Going wide curve, 49". Looking at this one :
Then possibly setting one of my existing monitors, (or one of my spares in the workshop) beside it in portrait mode for work purposes.

Am I insane?
Is this yet another cockamamie effort on my part to waste money?
What do the pro and semi-pro poopsockers think of this setup?
Would the money be better spend on a variable height desk set up to get my lard ass up out of my chair and standing more?

I would go look at one in a store because to me 49" is too wide. I much prefer the extra height on a 38".
