I've seen a called coyote hit 8 times at close range with a full auto 5.56 and it ran almost a mile before it dropped.

The older barrels on Vietnam era rifles had a bad twist factor and could cause nasty wounds out past 100 meters (from tumbling) but that's long fixed.

I remember the glory days before clinton when you could get cheap cases of norinco. 7 cents a pop for 7.62x39, 9 for 5.56.

That caused 'keyhole-ing' (destabilize and impact off axis) after 150 yrds traveled. thats where the myth of 5.56 rounds were designed to 'tumble' causing more trauma. Ruins the distance the projectile can travel accurately.

Hitting the target sideways is keyholing - a ballistic failure. Notice the loss of accuracy

Barrel twist not matching the weight of the bullet is the biggest cause. 55g and 72g are big difference in ballistics.
