I will never see this Ghostbusters movie as long as I live. They have already destroyed Poltergeist, Vacation, as mentioned above and one I forgot about, Robocop, and countless others. There has NEVER been a good remake, we should all avoid remakes from here on out.
Quoting for future evidence.

Even if the movie is decent, it's not going to appease the audience. We just don't care about these characters. With Egon gone, it's best to let this rest and move away from it.

Seananingans is right, mixed words up---mostcomics are men. But Hitch also said something similar to that, too. That most men have to be somewhat funny, especially average looking guys, because they have to be if they ever want to get laid. While most women are just not.
i generally agree with this but its interesting to note that in 2015, the two comedies I'd consider the funniest were Trainwreck and Spy while the worst were Ridiculous Six, Get Hard, and Vacation movie. It is a bit of an off year though, last year 22 Jump Street, Neighbors and Lego movie were awesome - I don't think there were any good female-led comedies that year.

I finally understand my dad though when he used to sit in the living room at night watching old westerns by himself grumbling about how movies are all shit nowadays. At least so far we still have good movies while they bring in more women and minorities, but I could see a time soon in the future when most movies have no white guys at all in them and i feel left out and will only watch pre 1990 movies in my man cave. Godfather 2 and Goodfellas will be my grandkids John Wayne movies

Ocean's 11, True Grit, Scarface? They're just very rare.

Seems like what separates those from lousy remakes is that I haven't seen any of the originals of those.

the original Red Dragon was called Manhunter, i think it was a tv movie by Michael Mann, the guy who brought us Miami Vice. it was an excellent movie, Red Dragon was not better. it wasnt worse, but different in its own way. original Scarface wasnt bad, it was just very dated. same with original Mummy and the Fly. i cant speak for the original Departed, Ocean's 11 and True Grit as i have never seen them. the original Little Shop of Horrors was a piece of shit. its unwatchable. i tried it a few times as a kid and had to bail. it was so bad i never even bothered with the remake, it may be awesome, i heard Steve Martin kicks ass in it, but i have no desire in checking it out and probably never will.

Musicals don't count as remakes in my book.

The original little shop of horrors was a horror movie, the remake was a musical comedy.

Completely different genres just sharing the same source material.

There are good remakes as noted.

whats interesting is, while we WANT to say there is a right way and wrong way to do it. There is no real basis for it. We can bitch at Robocop, and Total recalls not being true to they story, etc... While Fright night is faithful and fantastic.. There are many examples of great remakes totally ignoring the source and just going nuts.. John Carpenters The Thing. Almost nothing to do with The thing from another world. to the point we often forget they were remakes in the first place.

Or the many remakes of I am legend book >the Last man on earth, The Omega man, I am legend movies..
Remakes based off a single source of course is something as well.. I mean, do the Hulks count as remakes?

True grit original is a typical romanticized cowboy movie. True Grit remake is a bit more gritty and "realistic". but mostly the same.

You should correct this. It's a fantastic movie that has actually aged so well it might even be better now than when it was released. Also, the practical special effects they used for the plant are absolutely amazing.

Bill Murray is in it too, dealing with Steve Martin's character. Damn funny.

Completely different genres just sharing the same source material.

Its also a horror comedy. Just different direction/acting. Its much more low key. with a number of performances being really flat. Audreyjr vs Audrey 2 is of course massive.

The Little Shop of Horrors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
described as a black comedy. the Theatrical poster even calls it "the funniest picture this year".

The play, was an adaptation of the movie. Then the second movie was an adaptation of the play. haha.
But like Jack Nicholson's sadist dentist patient. clearly comedy. the inexplicable customers all suddenly appearing out of nowhere throwing thousands of dollars at the florist just because of that "weird plant in the window" all in the original.

The remake is almost a parody of the original at times. The customers. the sadist dentist/patient again. they took the first joke, and then lampooned it by going even further. It adds clever wordplay, again often lampooning some of the silly things in the original. a hallmark of being a play.

The score, and Audrey 2 is what really sells the remake too. Audrey Jr in the original was voiced by the writer. Audrey 2 in the remake is Levi Stubbs. And he absolutely KILLS it.

you know honestly thinking about this..
THIS is exactly what they needed to do. Musical version of the Ghostbusters. Give it the same treatment Little shop of horrors got. FFS musicals are IN right now. Pitch perfect, Frozen Galavant, into the woods, etc.

Get Ellen Greene, Anna Kendrick, Idina Menzel themselves.
