There have been many examples of words where the G is pronounced both ways in English, and we all know that there aren't a lot of hard and fast rules for spelling and pronunciation in English. Words are pronounced the way people pronounce them, and if that changes, the "official" rules change as well. In my opinion, going to the person who coined the word is a reasonable way to resolve the issue, though some may disagree. Trying to arrive at the "right" answer based on the rules of English however, is clearly stupid and pointless, but then reaching a reasonable conclusion isn't really the point of this thread is it?
