/livejournal, this post is mostly me just talking to myself. And setting up the narative for the almost guaranteed failure down the road. *cough*
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:Gonna be giving the baker girl a call for the first time tonight. We"ve been going back and forth on PoF and then FB for awhile now, close to 3 weeks with a message going one way or the other every day or two. Way longer than I"d normally go for, but she was moving last week and I"ve been fairly busy as well, the conversation"s actually been fairly pleasant, and I"m not overly interested in her from the pictures I"ve seen (mostly concerned about her figure, her face looks to be quite cute, but I"m very picky about a girl"s weight, shallow bastard that I am). She messaged me initially, as a reminder. I can tell since her first couple messages she"s trying to write more properly to emulate my writing in terms of grammar and spelling, it"s kind of mildly amusing.
I had actually already asked her if she"d like to check out a hockey game tomorrow night earlier in the week, at which point she said sure and gave me her number unprompted. Somewhat backwards way of doing it I suppose, but at this point I"m very much in the driver"s seat with this girl. Or at least it seems that way!
I"m not planning on chatting too much with her tonight, just locking the plans in tomorrow and getting off the phone as quickly as possible without seeming rude or strange. I"m just not much of a phone talker. Most likely will arrange to meet her for dinner at a place next door to mine before hopping on the train to go to the game. It"s a pretty good place for dates, and has a solid reputation around town but isn"t high end by any means, more of a comfort food type of place with a nice atmosphere that you don"t typically get in the chain-centric Edmonton dining industry.
I find hockey games, or I guess any sporting event, to make for excellent first dates really. Or 2nd/3rd, whatever. They allow for decent conversation, should it be flowing well, but at the same time if it"s not it doesn"t feel awkward just to concentrate on the game. There"s lots to talk about, whether that"s the play you just saw, the goofball on the video screen, or just people watching. The dinner next door and hockey game date has pretty much been my staple over the past year, and it"s been working great. Getting in to the whole "game" shit, which I still don"t really intend to do other than being aware of the most basic concepts about desirability etc, it"s also great for implying value etc as the tickets are really good (they stamped season seats with the game day price this year, so it"s $235 on each instead of the $150 we actually paid, not that it makes much of a difference either way), I often run in to other people I know there, and so on.
The other handy benefit is that the train station is literally 100 feet from my front door, so it"s extremely convenient to be like "oh hey, it"s only 9:30, want to come up and have a drink/watch a movie/do anal" if the date has gone well. And it"s pretty much a given that once they enter my lair, they will be unable to resist my advances. I"m trying to think of a time when a girl did, and I can only come up with maybe one out of ten where I actually made a move and was shut down. That cunt.
Hoping I"m pleasantly surprised by her appearance wise, she seems to be fairly intelligent and cool from the messages, but text doesn"t go very far at all in giving indications of compatibility, especially if it"s messages and not IMs.
I guess the only question then is, should I paint my face or no? If so, would painting my chest be going too far? Thanks in advance!
