The Good: Exceptional visuals; seriously, the lighting in parts of the mines, especially on an OLED w/ HDR is just unbelievable - they pushed the limit of this generations computing power and did a brilliant job. Loved the combat overall, camera aside (only a slight annoyance to me), thought the rune system was really good, enjoyed Atreus' combat, loved the Axe (by the end enjoyed it more than the blades) etc. The story was great for what it was (I'll get into that in "the ugly"), the world was expertly crafted and the flow of the game was very good. Side quests happen fairly naturally and were enjoyable.
The Ugly: Short, and unfulfilling. The game, the narrative the world all felt short. As if some things hit the cutting room floor and they re-wove the story together (they did a great job if that IS the case). I was so pumped when you first get to the realm hopping room to see all the different realms available. By the end, only 2 have any meaningful exploration to them outside of Midgard, another 2 are training excercises, and the last is a cutscene basically. Felt like there should have been more here. The bosses: the first Stranger fight was fucking amazing, and I thought "holy shit, if the rest of the boss fights are like this we're in for something special". We weren't. That was by far the best fight of the game. In fact, we only fought 3 unique bosses the whole game - Baldr, Dragon, Brothers and a fuck load of trolls and valkyries. After GOW3, this was a massive disappointment to me. I get they were trying a new approach, and it largely worked, but they could have replaced half the trolls with unique mini bosses/demi gods. Saving all this mythology is strange to me and by the last troll I was just rolling my fucking eyes.
Verdict: This was a great game, but well short of being a masterpiece - they were so close too; the world, the interactions, the story etc were so well done, but the game was let down by what I believe were time constraints put on the team. Needed more bosses, and about 5 more hours of content to really put it over the top for me.

The game was ridiculously easy for being on "God of War" mode.
The first fight against Baldur was epic, the rest was meh. Dragon fight wasn't as awesome as I had hoped. The brothers fight was cool with the phases, but still plain.
Not sure why they included so much useless filler content (realms).
Overall, it was fun, but not GoW3 material.

Anyone who preferred performance mode in MHW should stick with it in GoW too; the amount of judder is about the same and to me it's rarely an issue. Nowhere near as good as, say, Ni-Oh's action mode that actually hit 60 fps near-constantly (with rather extreme drops in resolution at times to pull it off), but I still greatly prefer it to being locked at 30 fps. At 30 fps I feel like Kratos is swimming in molasses whenever I move the camera around.
Heard MS is adding Freesync to the 'bone soon; Sony really need to get off their asses and keep up.

I love the banter between BOY and Father of the Decade. Especially on the boat when Kratos tells stories lol. Always fresh too so it's hilarious.
None of them make any sense what so ever either and I just start laughing every time Kratos is about to tell a new one.

Finished story mode... no spoilers, but there's definitely a couple solid goosebumpy moments for anyone familiar with Kratos prior to this game.
My only negatives are the boat controls feel awful (not a combat thing so whatever), and the quick turn button... down on the D pad mid fight is awkward as fuck, but I don't know where else I'd put it.
Everything else feels so good. Combat felt a little clunky at first until getting used to it. Started on hard, got through first real boss, then lowered it back down to normal. There's definitely a frequent number of fights in the late game that were challenging even on normal. I never felt super overpowered unless I backtracked unprompted by the story stuff.

. I had to do it. But I advise against it, you will get some upgrades / skills to help. Early on it's brutal and shiat takes forever to die while you can't make many mistakes. Stick with it!

I don't think I've even used the quick turn button. I just sprint roll out of there when I get surrounded and re-engage.
