Whats to defend? People who have any sense are going to see Godzilla fight others monsters and fuck shit up, and f it does those things people will be happy. Expecting a deep meaningful plot or story out of a Godzilla movie is fucking retarded. Same shit happened with Pacific Rim's "plot / acting was kinda of bad crowd". Like really? Its a god damn movie about Robots and Monsters from another dimension and the fucking movie is NOT plot-centric.

1998 Godzilla failed because it tried to introduce a plot that involved Godzilla. If this is good, Godzilla will be the plot just like the old Japanese movies.

this. summer blockbuster actually used to be somewhat meaningful. now, it's just one CGI shit fest after another. give me the mechanical shark in jaws over this computerized bullshit any day.

im a huge fan of practical effects and there are still directors like peter jackson who still use them and merge it with CGI for better realism. so im not a total flat earther on the subject. i still think the original jurassic park is a work of art. the CGI in the godzilla trailer isnt terrible. that being said, the worst part about it is Bryan Cranston hamming it up to 1100. jesus christ, if he blubbers like that throughout the whole movie i will walk the fuck out.

yes i plan on going to see this in the theater.

It's not the godzilla that looks bad (you can't see much of him either), it's the other stuff.
About bryan cranston,since the 1st time i saw the trailer, i always thought it was walter white meets godzilla.

I'm calling it right now, up to 90% of it is bullshit human interest/tactical planning/military trumpet blaring shrouded patriotism and 10% Godzilla fucking up other monsters and shit. The Godzilla parts won't come close to making up for all the lame shit going on with the actors. First half of the movie will be nothing but backstory about the science that created it with a bunch of ominous undertones and foreshadowing.

I wouldn't even mind that only 10% will be monsters if it was badass, but I doubt it will be. But the story/human aspects in this look beyond corny and yes Cranston's acting is looking downright hilariously bad so far. Pacific Rim knew what it wanted to be and embraced the camp to a tolerable degree, but this movie gives a different impression and I think it will fall as flat as Matthew Broderick's attempt, although the monsters certainly DO look better so far.

The studio only has the rights to Godzilla, and not any other monsters such as Ghidora, Rodan, Mothra, Mecha-Godzilla, etc.

It is either a Muto or a new creation. (Mutos are 1/3 the size of Godzilla, but they are numerous).

Just like every show you're going to stop watching for whatever reason, but are still watching 3 seasons later.

and you are completely wrong. i walked out on die hard 4. finally finished it a year later, i made the right call. also walked out on Serenity. what a pos and i paid for that. lots of other films i walked out on. some i never watched the rest, like Serenty. lots of TV shows i quit and never looked back. this season i quit, revolution, sleepy hollow, the following and im still on the fence about Vikings. still havent watched any of he new season yet. kinda sad since i liked that show, but i did not like how season 1 ended.

im not bagging on it to draw ire. i get plenty already. its a statement of fact. it sucked so hard i walked out on it. i dont care how many whedon fanbois get rustled, i paid for the fucking thing, if i want to walk out on it, its my decision. i saw it in the first place because of the firefly fans on the foh board talking about how awesome it was going to be. it was so bad i never ever wanted to see what happened. just one of those things you chalk up to a life mistake and move on.

I think it looks pretty good. What exactly is a big lizard movie that first started in the 50s supposed to be? A dramatic oscar inspired love story? The movie looks really good for what it is. Expectations should be realistic and I think it will be a pretty solid popcorn flic. Some people just like to hear themselves bitch and moan.

Walking out of a movie you paid for is silly, IMO. I don't walk out of anything. One time I walked into my parents bedroom and caught them having sex. I didn't walk back out. I stayed. Now I have a cute story to tell about when my sister was conceived. She doesn't know that I'm her father.
