Did a little checking.

time period is obviously up for grabs. Fantasy etc. But, using a reference point of lets say 1600's-1900's. Essax was putting out 50 ships a year. about 4000 ships over their 350 year history of shipbuilding.
A good 20-50 years required for "a thousand ships".
The Romans built fleets much quicker than that. Agrippa built and trained a navy to take on Pompey jr. in a year or two. I don't think it was a thousand ships, probably several hundred though. The ironborn are no Romans, that's for sure but they are maritime and skilled. Living on barren islands is the wtf part.

Never mind, it was 180 ships. So yeah they'd need a few years. Carry on.

Why the fuck did they have to do that whole "buid a thousand ships" shit in the show ? They established that the Ironborn were sea-raiders, we saw they had ships... Why didn't Euron just said... "Tell everyone to gather all the ships, Everyone !" ?

You guys are acting like them raiding the coast of Westros isn't always happening. They'll just chop down the trees in Westeros and bring them back.

I beg your pardon, you mean by Asha and Theon ? They took just a few ships... The fastest ones, but just a few. Thats how i remember it, at least.

I'm kind of at the point where I'd rather just let the story be a story instead of worrying about the ecology of the Iron Islands and whether it could support the number (or any) of trees needed to fashion "a thousand" ships.'

Watching Tenks and Itlan go at it like

Go watch the scene again. Looked like more than a few.

Also, there's like ten people with Euron. 11 people are going to build and command a thousand ships?

That whole plotline is fucking horrendous. I hope they all drown.

Now that I'm thinking about it has there been a successful marriage on this show yet? I guess Marge and Tommen is still TBD. But Robb and his bitch deed, Tyrion and Sansa didn't go to plan, Marge and Renly+Joff deed, Littlefinger + Vale chick, Sansa and Ramsey. Is there a happily married couple still that wasn't previously married when introduced?
They aren't married but Sam and Gilly have as successful a romantic relationship as his circumstances will allow.

They're just going to have all the ironborn get eaten by Drogon in the first 5 minutes of S7E01 anyways, calm down.

Are you daft? Those were the lords of the Iron Islands. They're going to get the entire population a ship-buildin.

Also, if the Iron Islands are pretty much barren, how the FUCK have they stayed alive since the end of Robert's Rebellion?

I mean if they were capable of building 1000 ships, why didn't anyone think of that before?

Oh shit, our whole culture is based around raiding and sea power. Why don't we... build ships and go raiding? Holy fuck, what a visionary!

We're talking about a world where Robb gathered 12,000 men from the ENTIRETY of the north. So you're telling me the Iron Islands, after Theon and Yara have escaped with their loyalist faction, have enough people to BUILD and occupy a THOUSAND ships?

Yeah, I'm daft.

Maybe that was more of a figure of speech not to build an actual 1000 ships. But more like, "build as many as possible."

I figured that they had ships for raiding yes. But they're building ships for the purpose of transporting Dany and all her shit. So she can move into Pyke Castle and live with Euron. Happily Ever After.

Balon's plan was all about taking land in Westeros. Euron has a different plan. It stands to reason that Balon's plan wouldn't call for nearly the amount of ships as Euron's.

Being Dany's husband doesn't seem to work out too well, honestly.
