I'm sorry...did they exist or not?

They've only been gone for decades. Not "hundreds of years".

It's okay to be wrong. truly.

Also there are three theories as to why the dragons died out they are as follows;

They fact the Targaryens kept them in a pit instead of letting them roam free and from then on they got smaller and smaller, inbreeding also was to blame because of this. (This one is the most widely accepted one)

The Westerosi maesters are hinted at in the books as having poisoned them.

The Doom of Valyria disrupted the magic of the world, killing off all eastern dragons and the distance from Valyria kept the Targaryan dragons alive longer than the others.

Martin does hit that problem of scale sometimes, it seems.

The lannister standing army is ten thousand strong. And this is after a few wars. So the lannister kingdom must be at least a million people, but spread fairly wide in medieval agriculture. And they have to have an industrial base to provision that army. And we know they had a significant mining operation until recently.

And we know from the map their kingdom is fairly large.

Their army should probably be even larger than ten thousand. But it should probably also be guarding internally against revolt. Not marching around in foreign wars (like the ones arya met stated) or garrisoned in a single fortress. Tywin may have been interested in the iron throne and the legacy of his family, but his peasants would have more immediate concerns.

It was never explicitly stated. People just sort of made that up. You had people claiming the comet was the return of magic, the return of dragons, the crowning of Joffrey, the killing of Ned, the return of white walkers, the Prince Who Was Promised and a dozen other ideas.

Look you cis gender male, in ancient valyrian, gender is neutral so the proper term is the Xer Who Was Promised by the Matriarchy

twist: ancient Valyria was America under President Chelsea Clinton

I think there's confusion between the conscripted members of the Lannister army versus sell-swords, allies and sworn swords ect. I think the "lannister" part of his army is 10k, but the entire force that the lannisters command would be a few times larger?

He would have been doing a lot of negotiation back at Casterly Rock alongside Richard II.

On a boat. Talk to peasants. On a boat. Act like a boss. On a boat. Suck my own dick. On a boat. Go to sleep. On a boat. Call the shots. On a boat.

Also "Lannister" is the last name of the Queen. So the entire army of King's Landing and all that are basically "Lannister Army" now. It's basically a term for anyone not rebelling against Cersei at this point.

Wildfire requires the arcane to make. Pyromancers make it. Who pratice the arcane. Who have been around for long, long before the comet.
the question wasn't, did magic exist? it was , was magic common knowledge?

Pockets of magic being very real, clearly existed. Old town maesters, Mellisandra, faceless men, warlocks, green seers, etc all very clearly knew magic was very real.

One day I will take the joy in your mouth and turn it into ash. It was a Lannister who said it, but not Jamie.
Did you consider, in Valyaria the word for younger brother "valonqar"is the same as younger sister and hotpie. So one might might say the correct translation is: "And when your tears have drowned you, the Hot pie shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you"
