We see Jorah at Old Town and when he's cured he says he will return to Daenerys, so it's not jarring when he shows up there..

The greatest thing about Ser Jorah showing back up was he arrived right in the middle of Jon and Dany having a moment. I cheered for him, because at long last, after years of being on the bitter receiving end, it was Ser Jorah who got to throw the cockblock.

ITT people complain that their fantasy tv show isn't more like a 5,000 page Trip Advisor review of a road trip from Ohio to Arizona.

Scream one thing you were so cocksure about was your assessment of the loot train episode, specifically when you said "RANDAL TARLY OBVIOUSLY WAS SEEN RIDING AWAY BEFORE THE BATTLE THSTS WHY YOU DIDN'T SEE HIM DUH PAY MORE ATTENTION".
Yeah? And look, it got resolved didn't it? A dude you've seen in maybe 4 episodes total got killed and somehow this is upsetting to you?

I don't think people want there to be actual travel bullshit. I think the complaints or observations are really about the perception. They are not even trying to be clever and drop some kind of visual cue or piece of dialogue that hints toward any time passing. Jon and Davos just literally rowed a boat from Dragonstone to Eastwatch in the span of 4 minutes. That is a long-ass trip. As I said before, I get the need to move characters and move them quickly. It just feels rushed to me.

Maybe HBO Westeros is basically the size of West Hollywood.

I don't really mind it, at this point they need it to move the plot along between the few characters that are left who have to be separated by a massive expanse of land.

lol they rowed out to a massive sailing ship that was parked right in the background of the scene, only Gendry could row all the way to eastwatch from dragonstone.

While that is less funny than them rowing there, it's still a massive distance(which was the point).

Scream wtf are you talking about? Aren't you like some writer? How can you be that bad at reading comprehension, I never said I care about the characters arc or longevity, the way he died why he died, just simply SHOW A SHOT OF HIM DURING THE FUCKING BATTLE.

As a viewer is it asking too much to show Randal Fucking Tarly have at least ONE onscreen feat of swordsmanship, a tactical command, a fucking 2 second shot of him yelling while chasing an enemy, him looking bewildered, ANYTHING.

The point I'm making is this is supposed to be a badass battle commander AND fighter who washes whores cunts with lye for fucksake and we can't see him in the ultimate battle of his life for 3 seconds?

Give me a break. And you glossed over the fact that you were wrong about Lord Tarly leaving the battlefield in the first place and just attacked me instead.

Edit: Jamie just escaping in that situation was also so goddamned ridiculous I'm not sure what is worse that or the Wight capture adventure. All those Dothraki scouts, Dany just having her life threatened by a man who is now in some water next to her and her FUCKING DRAGON.

Hey guys, I haven't been keeping up with the thread. Does anyone else think that they don't show enough how travel time effects things in this show? As an expert in medieval logistics, I find the timelines somewhat dubious! I bet this idea will lead to weeks of super interesting discussion.

Also, if we could get a couple mouthbreathers to post "The writing is bad! The writing is bad!" 17 times a day and someone else to reply to every post by saying "nuh-uh" that would really spice things up as well.

I think the distance from Dragonstone to eastwatch was around 1800 miles so a little over 8 days by ship by normal sailing speeds.

yes i get the point, people travel a lot in random spots and sometimes it seems weird. I would prefer the teleporting though at this point to having random filler scenes (like the Arya/Sansa story atm).

No...it's a big difference to say they fucking rowed a boat to Eastwatch versus sailing on a larger ship. Missing the ship is the real point here.

Every episode of Pawn Stars ever:

CUSTOMER: Hey I was scuba diving in the ruins of the Titanic and found this priceless diamond necklace.
PAWN SHOP GUY: Wow that looks pretty valuable, I know a guy who can appraise it, let me call him.
APPRAISER: Wow that necklace is uber rare and worth at least $50,000.
PAWN SHOP GUY: Ok I can give you $10 for it.
CUSTOMER: Oh come on man it's worth $50,000 can you at least do $20?
PAWN SHOP GUY: Ok best I can do is $15.
CUSTOMER: Deal.
Gripping!

So how long would it have take in the rowboat? 6 minutes instead of 4? I wholeheartedly apologize for missing the boat, but it literally has no bearing on my point of travel time this season.

Travel nonsense aside, I enjoy the show and it's still one of my favorites currently on. I would just say that Seasons 1 - 4 were 9 out of 10 and now it's about a 7 out of 10.

I played a strategy game called Mount and Blade that has an ASOIAF mod ( A Clash of Kings (Game of Thrones) mod for Mount & Blade: Warband ) and travel is of course super critical. It blows my mind everytime a character teleports. Jon Snow going from Winterfell to Dragonstone is like, an epic LotR trip from the shire to Mt Doom. Euron sailing from King's Landing to Casterly Rock is as long as the Odyssey.

This is especially funny since the show is centered around the two slowest trips in fiction history: Daenarys traveling from Essos to Westeros, and the white walkers moving south. I think it'd be more suitable if when they showed the white walkers they were just hanging out waiting for even worse weather to move in.
At some point did we get some exposition about the White Walkers marching towards the wall? Because even if not, that's the impression we've got.

If every time we saw them they were wrecking some shit, it might make sense. But if they've been "marching towards the wall" for the last 4 or 5 years (story years, not seasons necessarily), it really makes no sense at this point. We've had characters move 20 times as far as the White Walkers have had to go in the same period of time.

Hardholm was basically the last "big" wildling "city" and it is fairly close to the "edge" corner - of the wall - its like eastwatch just on the other side of the wall - the army of the dead destroyed it and all other wildling camps from the deep north all the way to the wall. "The Dead" did not come from nowwhere, they ARE the wildlings that have been living in the north and have been killed.

The wall is "magic" in its creation and as a boundary - so they are not just waiting to GET to the wall and then just wonder past it, its not that we are literally waiting for them to GET there and just walk past it.

We are waiting for the "Event" to happen that will allow the white walkers, and their undead hordes to pass the wall.

Also the "South" -North, the area near the wall - was not as cold/deep north as the north-north- they noticed cooling whenever a white walker was by, they apparently need this very deep cold - as "winter comes" it makes the parts of the north that were "cold...but not fuckn COLD" now fuckn cold and the walks do not need to exert their power to make the area around them "deep cold" or whatever you want to label it as.

So now that winter is here, we are awaiting whatever the event is that allows them to pass the wall...we are not waiting for them to literally "get to the wall" because yes, they have had years and shambling zombies would have eventually gotten there.

For the 800th time do you want a picture of them staring off into the distance North while sailing saying "It's going to be dangerous"? Pointless. Advance them to Eastwatch so we can get the important parts out of the way (meeting back up with Tormund, meeting the Brotherhood in the cell). People talk about wasted episodes where not enough happens for them and we have people whining we don't take extra time to show them doing nothing while sailing north.
