Some of my favourite moments are when Maestor Pycelle trolls people - during the council meeting in the last episode where he 'accidentally' drops the message on the floor when handing it to Tyrion. Just for his private spite. Ofcourse, later follows it up with the "Tyrion was rude and should apologise immediately bla bla bla". This guy doesn't serve the realm and the last person you'd want to have giving you medicine.

Also some fun conversations from Season 1: Lord Varys talking to the [King?] of Braavos in the dungeons of Kings Landing, about having to bide their time (since war seemed inevitable thanks largely to Little Finger and the ineptitude of the Starks lest we forget). Was such an odd moment, perhaps entirely a plot device to keep Varys quiet about Little Fingers game playing at the time, or perhaps just an old reminder that he has his own unknown grand scheme for the realm. Power comes with armies - Braavos probably does not hold an army so I doubt there can be very much direct influence he can cause with them.

We'll probably see more of that city (it featured early on with the hiding spot for both Viserys & Daenerys Targaryen), I have to assume that the sword master never died in a 1v1 with a broken stick after knocking out 5 guards with a wooden sword, so he'll probably be around to lend a hand - and finally the guild of the faceless for Arya to join. And lastly it'll probably be the last travelling spot for Daenerys before travelling across the sea to fuck shit up.

That was the fat white guy from the first episode, wasn't it? That's Illyrio, a powerful dude in Pentos.

Having not read the books just yet I'm just curious if my suspicions about Lord Baelish becoming a major villain if not the main villain are correct. It seems like he is acquiring masses of power completely underneath everybody's radar and is truly loyal to nobody but himself and seems like he has an obsession with the iron throne but not so much wanting to sit in it as wanting to destroy it.

Baelish has a major Small Man's syndrome due to his upbringing. He is indeed amassing power and executing plots under everyone's nose, as nobody seems to really take him seriously. We'll see if he can actually pull off his plots, though the final goal of them has yet to be determined (iirc he has never come out and said what exactly he wants for himself).

Baelish will never be considered a villain. There are very few actual villains in the series, since to be a villain things have to be sort of black and white. People like Joffrey and Ramsay are villains, other people just have adversarial relationships with one another.

Hard not to see Baelish as sort of a villian at this point even if he doesn't fit the typical villian mould. He's always been really nice to the people he's betraying and using.

He's not cruel and sadistic like Joff or Ramsey, but he does come off as a very creepy douchebag and does whatever he needs to gain power (Dontos, Lysa, Marillon, etc). I guess he is a villain at this point because he's sort of holding Sansa hostage. He's a very interesting character and I can't wait to see how far GRRM pushes him up the ladder.

Every time Charles Dance is on camera I expect him to have a false wooden eye a la his character in last action hero. Seriously though dude is a boss and not being nominated there is a travesty. As a book reader I feel like he has embodied his character from the book better than any other actor on the show in any of the 3 seasons.

I'm sure someone else made this exact same image before me, because I've never heard the song before just saw a version with a husky on the bottom and instantly thought of this.

HBO and the Game of Thrones producers choose which episodes and performers they would like to submit for each category, while actors are also free to submit themselves.
Explains why some actors are there and shouldn't be.

Pushing people off a mountaintop to their deaths don't make someone a villain? Damn we live in some cruel times...
intentionally manipulating and setting in to motion the War of the Five Kings is probably more villainy than pushing one psycho bitch out a moon door. Also killing Joff for shits and giggles purely because he has the means to do so with "seemingly" no motivation or opportunity.

I have no theories on how it would occur, or what the aftermath would be, but I can totally see Littlefinger sitting on the Iron Throne eventually. If only for a short while. I think he's been building up to that his whole life.

I was just pointing out that the conversation had veered into discussing whether he was a villain at all territory, it highly amused me that it was even in question.

While he may not indeed be as inherently evil as the others, his character to me enshrines a lot of the philosophy of a previous work he was a distinguished part of : "It's all in the game, yo. All in the game." and he accomplishes said game playing feats with downright villainy. I mean for gods sake, he even has at least slightly villainous looking moustache!*

*admittedly half the cast have one as well

I guess if you judge his actions in a certain way you could say he's a villain. He did that to Lysa to further his position in the Vale and protect Sansa. Joffrey and Ramsay do sadistic shit just because it's fun for them, there doesn't seem to be an end goal. Littlefinger has ambitions!

Probably did it for the same reason Varys took out Kevan, a realm in chaos provides some interesting opportunities.
