Have to say being only one in my family that has read the books is really fucking annoying. After every episode.... why? Why? Who is that guy again? Why? How? Why? Who?

I am to the point where I just say either "I forgot or if I tell you again you will only forget again, so what is the point?"

Isnt there the big fucking problem, that there is no one willing to champion for Tyrion and he is about to have to fight the fucking mountain himself until Obery steps in and gets his face smashed!? Iirc the situation was completly out of Tywin?s hands in the book.

It is kinda the same in the tv-series, isnt it. Bronn wont champion for him and in case Tywin plans a Mountain vs Oberyn fight, there isnt a predictable winner. They are a bit overplaying the "Tywin plans ahead for everything" in Tv-series a bit. Charles Dance is fucking badass, doint it though.

It was never really out of Tywins control though. He could have required their champion be from the Kings Guard as they are part of the royal family, etc etc. He could have had the King simply pardon him. Tywin had options he was going through the motions to remove Tyrion. He also says he would never let them kill his son, which just proves its only about one thing.

In the book Bronn had already said he wouldn't do it and Oberyn had said he would, and Tyrion waited until the third day of the trial (iirc) to demand trial by combat, already knowing Oberyn would be his champion.

Is that how it went down? Coulda sworn Oberyn only volunteered after the fact. Don't feel real strongly about that memory though.

When Tyrion is accused of Joffrey's murder, Oberyn is one of the judges. The day before a judgement is to be pronounced, Oberyn offers to be Tyrion's champion in atrial by combat, if Tyrion tells who is guilty of the murder of Elia. Tyrion takes Oberyn up on his offer. He denies any involvement of his father but tells Oberyn that Lorch killed Rhaenys and SerGregor Cleganekilled Elia andAegon.[10]Oberyn knows already that Ser Gregor will be his adversary.

That's what I figured. We thought there should have been 2 gone.

But thanks for thinking I was retarded Spronk.
There are two gone. The necklace originally had seven crystals, but at the trial there were only 5.

I still don't get your argument though, say Tywin decides to do what you said. They rig the fight and completely undermine Cersei's accusation. Then what? She resents Tyrion even more, and now she absolutely hates her father. Then what does he do when she goes full on psychopath for not geting her way?

Or, he lets that situation play through, best case scenario: Tyrion wins and he's free, the mountain dies, cersei at least tried but failed, jaime renounces the kingsguard and becomes the heir to the lannisters as promised. (Tywin wins)
worst case: Tyrion loses, is condemned and Tywin allows him to take the black in exchange for Jaime renouncing the kingsguard etc. Cersei gets her vengeance and tywin gets what he wanted out of Jaime. (Tywin wins)

and the actual worst case scenario that you would not even remotely factor in: Tyrion loses, varys and jaime free tyrion, tyrion kills you while you're trying to take a shit thats literally rotting you from the inside. (Tylose)
Cersei just so happened to pick Tywin's man. Would he have even agreed to it if Tywin didn't sign off on it? And him being the monster that he is, was there any real hope for Tyrion at that point? No way I am buying that Tywin was just powerless to help everything he has ever worked for his entire life from flushing down the drain. If he wanted to put a stop to that he would have, and Cersei would have been left with Meryn fucking Trant as her champion. Or Tyrion could have had Bronn, but that was conveniently taken care of as well.

Don't know how it works in Westeros (as usual) but isn't it typically the aggrieved/accuser who gets to choose their champion? So Cersei? Who would of course choose Jaime? And am also curious about whether or not Tyrion can choose a champion. Seems kind of a cheap out to be able to demand trial by combat, and not have to fight yourself.

I don't know the rules of this thread, but I have NOT read any of the books. Are we allowed to speculate what might happen in the final 4 episodes of the season, just by using the episode titles, or is that considered a spoiler?

For example, 2 episodes ago was titled "Oathkeeper". We have since learned that this is the name Brienne of Tarth gave her Valyrian Steel sword, after Jaime Lannister gifted it to her. However, I would have guessed that the episode title itself was a nickname for Brienne herself. Being that she always wished to serve someone deserving.
Is that allowed?

Only if you're wrong. If you're right the mods decide that you must have read the books because there's no way you were able to analyze the subtlety that is GRRM.

It's kind of a gray area because it's information not shown to the viewer, but if you want to go ahead. I'd keep it in spoiler tags though. The other problem is it gives people hooks to nostradouche more easily. Ex: the red wedding's show title was called the rains of castamere. It'd be outlandish for someone to have predicted the red wedding, but if someone were to have come in here, say, "Oh the next episode is probably a wedding Robb and his bannermen are in, but it's called the rains of Castamere, which I know is a song Tywin Lannister wrote when he smashed some fools which I totally know from the show... I bet Robb Stark is going to be betrayed or something crazy!" Then all the dumbass confirmation experts come in with, "How dare you spoil the most important twist of the show where Robb Stark is betrayed by Roose Bolton and Walder Frey and everyone including Catelyn Stark dies!"

We'll see how it plays out in the show. If they're willing to do something as awkward as what happened with Asha Greyjoy monty pythoning her way around the Dreadfort they could get to the oberyn/gregor duel any way they want.

My prediction: Tywin hears the trial by combat, plots to have Bronn fight Meryn Trant in exchange for Jaime stepping down as the kingsguard. Cersei counters his plot with something half-retarded and has Gregor selected somehow. Bronn says fuckin' nope. Oberyn steps up.

The other way it could work is Cersei immediately pipes up about Gregor before Tywin can even think about who should fight, and he doesn't have the crowd and noblemen enough to take Gregor away from the fight and put in Meryn Fucking Trant.

In the show, tywin has nothing but disdain and pretty much hatred for tyrion. I think they'll just have someone, maybe tywin, say cersei, as accuser, chooses the champion. Gregor is chosen, and since in the show Oberyn already knows it's the mountain, jumps up as tyrions. I'm guessing we'll have bronn visit beforehand with his I'm a sells word, bro, good luck!

Note: try to avoid got names on phone.

You can always tell people who have read the books, because they actually refer to the characters by their names, not their tv nicknames.
