The way I remember it, he kicked her ass for sure. But she came out on top, even after taking her beating. Then the Hoat showed up.

Yeah it's edited, I hope it's like the book where it is a close fight but since it shows the end and she owns him...

They ended up grappling in the mud in a stream with her on top when the Brave Companions come upon them.

Jaime drove his shoulder into her legs, bringing her down on top of him. They rolled, kicking and punching until finally she was sitting astride him. He managed to jerk her dagger from its sheath, but before he could plunge it into her belly she caught his wrist and slammed his hands back on a rock so hard he thought she'd wrenched an arm from its socket. Her other hand spread across his face. "Yield!" She shoved his head down, held it under, pulled it up. "Yield!" Jaime spit water into her face. A shove, a splash, and he was under again, kicking uselessly, fighting to breathe. Up again. "Yield, or I'll drown you!"

"And break your oath?" he snarled. "Like me?"

She let him go, and he went down with a splash.

And the woods rang with coarse laughter.

more spoilers: Tormund doesn't har and he's just another generic serious character in the show

There has been praise for Noah Taylor (Locke/Vargo Hoat) and Paul Kaye (Thoros) though.

Also Jaime losing his hand is the last scene of episode 3.

Just re watched seasons 1 and 2 and I still have a couple lingering questions, but I'm sure they'll get answered this upcoming season. One of things I still don't understand was the scene where Davos took Melisandre to the cave where she birthed the evil shadow baby. I get that Stanis ordered him to take her, but they get to the end of this cave and there's a gate and Davos says something about this passage use to be open. I don't understand this cave bit or why he took her out there. Halp!

That's the same passage Davos used to smuggle food to Stannis when he was under siege during the previous war.

Got it. But why did he take her there? Did Stanos know she was about to have the demon spawn and wanted it to be private?

That's how he became the Onion Knight, he smuggled onions. Also why Stannis cut off his fingers, because he smuggled. Stannis is kind of a dick.

Edit you posted quick. IIRC he more or less knew what was going on. Maybe not exactly the demonbaby part, but some hoodoo evil shit.

My understanding was that she needed to be on land and near the encampment of Renley (sp?), Stannis brother, for the ritual to work. Stannis camp was across some water or something. So, he smuggled her over close enough for it to work without drawing attention.

Davos knew that Mel was going to do something, but he didn't really know. The main importance of that scene was that it showed Mel had legit powers, which Davos had been previously skeptical of.

The gate breached the glyphed fortifications of the castle, which allowed the wraith to go through and rape Renly.
