I just read Sylas' break down of his take on the difference of the ending between the books and the show. My problem is that while he may be technically correct in the motivations of the producers, I still believe that it completely changes (for the worse) the character development of one of the best characters in the story. It also neuters that scene to barely a shadow of the dramatic impact that scene could have had if they had done it right and just messes up the entire motivation of both characters. Tyrion for obvious reasons, but also for Jaime and how he reacts to his sister in the future. I had always put a lot of his actions to guilt of his past and a desire to be a better person. The show just takes so much of that away that it quite honestly made it hard to even watch.

Should be alot of good Dany stuff if they do it right. The collapse of order in the city, plague outside, dissension inside. Her making the marriage deal. Finale being the great celebration in the Fighting Pits and Drogon's return.
From reading show-only viewer comments at the end of this season, most of them could give a shit about Dany. Her story is boring in the show, and her current book exploits are even worse. The only redeeming part so far was the crap at the very end where she finally does shit with the dragons again. But all of the political stuff in the free cities was terrible.

Political stuff doesn't have to be terrible though. Certainly there is enough things to work with to make her storyline entertaining enough and the finale could be awesome.

To be honest, I like the way the show played out the Tyrion/Jamie scene better than the book. The way Tyrion handled that never made sense to me, if we are to believe that he has this bond with Jamie.

There has been a ton of conversation around how they have messed up Jamie's redemption in the book by leaving out his denial of Cersei; but I really think they have set it to start happening next season. My prediction is that he is going to find out about Tywin, know that Tyrion did it, and his rejection of Cersei will start with his vigil over Tywin's corpse in the Sept. This will cause Cersei to start acting more erratic and provides the perfect TV set up for the things that lead up to her trial without the inner monologue from the books.

Yeah the problem is that political drama is only entertaining when you care what happens or the actors/writing is good enough to carry it. Emilia Clarke is merely sufficient and Daenarys is boring when she's not with her dragons. Greyworm, Missandei and Daario Naharis are useless. Even Ser Barristan "the Bold" Selmy is just an old statue being used as a platform to show Daenarys either being naive or badass. Ser Jorah "Friendzone" Mormont was the best character in Essos and she kicked him out of her point of view. None of the story from when she got the unsullied was interesting to read and the show hasn't done any better. The best thing they could do is use one scene to wrap up everything until she starts riding dragons and meets up with Tyrion, Victarion, Strong Belwas and Ser Friendzone.

i hope the showrunners have secretly planned to end the show at 5 seasons and cram a ton of stupid suprise shit into the finale like ghost ned stark coming back to advise tyrion and the dragons learning to talk and the white walkers turning out to be aliens from the future.

everyone will say the ending sucked, game of thrones sucked, and GRRM will die of a heart attack from watching his material raped

Calling it now. Jon gonna warg into Ghost after he dies and then Ghost is going to hop on Drogon's back which is being warged by Bran, lord of the trees. One other dragon will be manned by Tyrion sucking on Dany's tit and the final one will be Dany and Tyrion's flesh-monster of a baby. They will give the seven kingdoms a proper raping and claim the throne.

Quote it or whatever, that will be the end.

I still don't see why it's not possible that the show will end the series a certain way and then when GRRM finally writes the last book it ends differently. Who exactly is going to get upset about that?

Yeah, I am curious what happens to Nazi Zombie Mountain next season. Maybe they just said the procedure would 'alter' him so he could be recast again :p.

I think that would suck. I hope he doesn't sacrifice his plans for the books due to the progression of the show. Some have been saying "thank god they cut X", but I don't feel that way about a lot of that material. The books are solid, and I want them to continue as they have.

its why book readers hate most of stephen king's movie adaptions, its definitely why stephen king himself hates what kubrick did to The Shining. when you alter what made the original works work so successfully in the first place that it was adapted then take your favorite characters and start making them do things they were never meant to do or cut them out completely it will tend to piss people off.

There's been speculation that the show will shift to secondary material in the same universe. I bet the show gets canceled before it's concluded.

Speculation by people who have no understanding of contracts. Think of it in terms of pro-sports: contract is good for X years, then they become a free agent, at which point they can play the market. There is no fucking way they do Dunk n' Egg stuff/etc except as a standalone spinoff or mini-series, if at all. Actors gotta eat, support crews also gotta eat, and sets cost money to maintain.

Whether GRRM is ready or not, they will move past and conclude it.

No way in hell HBO went with a contract that doesn't let them finish teh series if GRRM hasn't finished it.

It is really a ridiculous topic to even discuss. OF COURSE they will continue with the series and conclude it if GRRM hasn't put out the next book. They already have an outline of the ending.
