I really liked book 4, in retrospect. At the time I just wanted more Tyrion and Arya, but I'm really drawn to the story of the peasants, the church reformation, all of the crazy shit going on.

Brienne's arc will be different slightly. In the books, everyone thinks Arya is dead and she is seeking Sansa almost exclusively. In the show, she was focusing on Sansa, but now she knows Arya is alive. TV shows usually like to pair up certain actors, but the Brienne + Pod show will need one more. You can't have her hook up with Littlefinger+Sansa just yet, because Brienne would totally fuck up LF's plans. However, I could totally see Darth Sansa eventually recruiting Brienne as part of her plan to play the Game of Thrones eventually.

The Brotherhood doesn't need Stoneheart to function...there is enough Lannister hate there. I do think you need the Jaime+Brienne angle, though, to make that whole arc effective. However, Jaime appears to be in Dorne this season, so I don't see how that will work right now.

The HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones has run out of George R.R. Martin books to adapt. Season 5, due to premiere April 12, will tie up Martin's A Dance With Dragons, the last book available in the series. And without another book coming in the near future, the series creators have to go ahead and make Season 6 without the roadmap they've used for so long.
maybe if the showrunnerws hadnt skipped over half the content of the books and ditched most of the cool characters they wouldnt be in this position?

Game of Thrones season 5 premieres exactly 40 days from today (April 12th) if you re-watch one episode a day of the series you will be all caught up just in time for the new season.

yeah that would be cool if they ended the TV show (season 7) at the end of book 5 and we never got the end of the story. dumbass.

two people you can blame:

If HBO had the foresight to sign the the actors to 7 year deals and then had the option to pay the retardo money to extend them for an 8th or 9th season (instead of the current situation where they are paying the retardo money for seasons 5, 6, and 7) then they could of kept all the dumb (and the handful of good) bloat from the books, and we wouldn't be in this "predicament." As long as you're good with Bran and arya being 23 by the time the story ends.

If GRRM could write more than 2 books in 15 goddamn years we also wouldn't be in this predicament.

The show runners are doing an absolutely amazing job with the constraints they have and what they have to work with.

I have done that every year so far but I'm not sure I'm really up to pounding 40 hours of GoT this year, especially when I've seen S1 4 times now, S2 three times, etc. I may just watch 3 and 4 or something.

I think 3 and 4 is what I am going to do having seen 1 and 2 several times and reading the books several times.

We are going to get to a point, where the show is going to spoiler the books... which is hilariously ironic.

Ok a comment like this sort of pisses me off.

The real issue here is GRRM had like 5 fucking years to complete A SINGLE BOOK. It is absolutely not the producer's faults here, they did their part in the deal. GRRM fucked this up, not them.

True... But why would you start a TV series based on a book that isn't finished? We knew going into season one that they would catch up after a few years. I fall in the middle. Is GRRM painfully slow? Yep. Could the show runners have stretched things out? Yes, but to an extent. Some book content would be dull on TV. Not our nerd demographic, but mainstream audience folk need ADD action and plot and that's what the show runners are doing.
