I still feel that Sansa is going to play the Elizabeth of York role in some way - her getting married off to a foreign conqueror (Tudor) to end hostilities and perhaps unify the realm in the face of the White Walkers, or unify the realm in the aftermath of the White Walkers; Elizabeth's marriage to Owen Tudor after Bosworth Field ended the War of the Roses and set the stage for an age of general asskicking by England. The rest of the Starks have kind of followed the House of York's fate in the War of the Roses - down to the whole 'princes in the tower' situation with Bran/Rickon.

Of course, in the War of the Roses the only thing to worry about past Hadrian's Wall were Scots, instead of Scots and supernatural ice beings, so obviously the comparisons break down all over the place, but the broad strokes are there.

Either way, it's going to be kind of gay. Up to now it's been a political/military intrigue and it's going to culminate in some supernatural showdown with fireball-throwing children, dragons, and white walkers nobody is prepared to fight.
I am sad to say that I expect this, too.

Everyone or just most of everyone? I mean, are you planning on the extinction of humanity?

Maybe the Bran arc goes nowhere, but we know Dany is coming to Westeros with her dragons. The wall will probably fall at some point. The Starks will eat shit due to being in close proximity to the wall. The children of the forest will have their magic amplified by the presence of dragons. Children of the forest + starks + dragons = WW battle that the children of the forest end up winning. Perhaps the wildlings (First Men?) take back some of the territory and the kingdom ends up divided.

This is exactly what I'm afraid of as well. I don't see any way out of it, however. Unless he comes up with a fucking brilliant plot.

There's kinda two ways it could go. Either A.) Typical fantasy trope of a mighty battle of Fire and Ice. Which would be fucking stupid as its the precise thing that the series subverted and became popular for. Or B.) Subversion and a treaty/alliance is renewed between Ice and Fire. Which is anticlimatic and also lame.

I see no way how the End of this series lives up to the Journey. So to speak.

No but it just falls into the trope then. Just to... LOTR-y to have an "epic final battle."

I'm not sure how anyone thinks it's ending other than fantasy(dragons, zombies, white walkers, etc). Sure, the show has focused on politics and character drama, but the backdrop has been the impending doom of winter from the first chapter in the book and the first scene in the show. Now if it's a corny battle, I can see it being lame, but I think they'll make it more than just dragons fight white walker!

The ending will almost certainly be a battle where a bunch of people who don't trust each other are forced to unite against a common enemy. Like World of minor skirmishes over resources but we spend so much time working with one another that we aren't really at Warcraft.

With any luck though, there will still be backstabbing, politics, and murder.
