Yeah the ice is a nice nod to 'winter has come' for the opening credits, but it does lead some credence to the whole idea that the white walkers will just walk around the damn wall on the frozen sea.

That is kind of dumb... lol.

It's hard to believe this thread is worse than I thought it would be.

I think you guys need to realize that we're done with any kind of subtlety on the show. They are going to fast track us right into the final battles. Just hope for some awesome CGI dragon / undead battles and lower your expectations on the rest. I've written off any chance of the books getting wrapped up about 3 years ago

Endgame of the series will be Varys vs. Littlefinger in some way or I'll be terribly disappointed. Two best characters in the show. (Tirion in the mix too, but he's so much more overt than the other two)

If that is how they plan to get past the wall then wow. It only means a few things. The First Men built this awesome magical wall and the White Walkers just didn't bother trying to past it because it was annoying. So they just decide to wait until the sea eventually freezes and they can circumvent it. Just took 8000 years for a cold enough winter.

OOPS!

I wouldn't be surprised if the undead walked around the wall, HBO would jump at the opportunity to tell everybody that a wall is an ineffective means of border control.

not sarcasm.

more like skepticism
I think so. I really can't imagine them doing a siege on Casterly Rock given that we have never seen the Rock in the show. It's too inconsequential to spend time and budget on a fight there. Dany will get pissed when she learns about the attack and start to become unhinged. Was pretty obvious that everything was going to go down in Kings Landing when they showed us the trebuchet.

So with Azor Ahai being gender neutral now... Grey Worm, Theon, or Varys are the leading candidates to be the Zer that was promised.

It was always gender neutral. That isn't some new development. Making the story into, "The Prince or Princess that was Promised" is HBO faggotry.

It feels like after the show runners used what GRRM wrote up to that point (admittedly I havent read the book), afterwards they basically just took the path of least resistance to finish writing the conclusion. the only problem with that is that it makes for really shitty plot because the plot is written with author's omniscient knowledge of all character motivations and expectations. so its basic, boring and predictable.

i actually rewatched the first 4 seasons (first time since i watched them originally several years ago) over the past week while working and was pleasantly surprised how well this show held up and how many more little things i caught now that i know so much more about the show.

in a way it kinda sucks that a really nuanced, complicated and intricate show is basically getting phoned in, in the last 14 hours
The longer this goes on, the more I think GRRM should've stuck with his trilogy idea. He really had no clue how to wrap it up. Really, books 4 and 5 were a bunch of meandering bullshit.

I don't want to do the book spoiler thing, but it's clear that he just threw in a bunch of random characters and other arcs that were completely irrelevant. I think because he didn't know where he wanted to go. Almost like he has writers ADD.

I wouldn't be surprised if when Winds of Winter comes out, it's 2000 pages of nothing happening.

I agree, the show runners are basically just trying to get to the finish line. I even wonder how much of an outline they have now. I kind of wonder if it isn't just maybe Jon and Dany's stories and that's it. The rest they're shooting from the hip with.

OK, some of this episodes criticisms are just bitching at this point. We all knew they only had 14 episodes to conclude the series, so it has created a higher level of expectations as far as screen-time is concerned and how the plot unravels, while we watch the clock.

This obviously is a problem, and the only way it can be remedied is with a couple of fantastic episodes and quality writing. I dont know the director line-up, but Im sure HBO can churn out at least 4 fantastic episodes with the 12 that are left. So you figure ep 3 and 4 will probably be a means to an end to drive plot and then we will get a more fleshed out, meaningful experience come ep 5 6 and 7. My point is whats happening was kind of expected at this juncture.

Obviously we all wish every episode could be awesome, but if you look back at the previous 6 seasons, each one had at least 3 or 4 boring/uneventful/filler episodes. So Im just extracting what I can from whats left and will try to enjoy the ride rather than bitching.

As far as the episode itself goes, there were a few important plot points that should be discussed.

Dany relenting when Olenna asks if she will take some council was kind of big. That was clearly the start of a plot point concerning Tyrion and Dany and the story at large. Dany will now question Tyrion and his motives (even when she probably shouldnt as we all know Tyrion acts with honor and wont betray Dany at this point). This was clear, as the look on Tyrions face said it all when she repeated his line about ruling over ashes to her subordinates. Its almost like he is somewhat surprised at how much he has grown on her already, she is clearly taking his advisement to heart.

But now Olenna is going to be an opposing force. If you want to talk about SJW bullshit then highlight this. She basically laid it out bare, saying that she survived so long by NOT LISTENING TO MEN LOL. Dany sadly looked like she saw some truth to what she said, and will now cool off on Tyrion. This is significant. You add that with the loss of her fleet with the Euron situation, and Qyburns scorpion bolt launcher, and now there is some true peril for Dany. She has lost the means to move around her host, her dragons face a perceived true threat, and internal conflicts with her newly formed alliance will hamper her actions over the course of this season.

This episode basically put the brakes on Danys rofflestomp party. Some people thought she might start the conquering off rip and go for the throat by taking Kings Landing and then shell have to maneuver from there. But after this episode we can put that to bed. Especially when you consider Cersies plea to her bannermen with Randall Tarly rallying to her cause, and Qyburns dragon bane. Kings Landing will stand for the foreseeable future and Cersei isnt going anywhere till at least the end of this season at the very earliest if ever.

Those were the most important factors to consider, and then you have Arya going back to Winterfell for a family reunion, which changes things as far as her character arc. Other than that yea the episode wasnt great. Missandies tits and ass are top notch so I dont really have a problem with the Grey Worm shit. It was uncomfortable and entirely too long, but if not for seeing her goods this episode would have REALLY been shit.

Definitely noticed Theon's PSTD triggers facing Euron - he'd fucking rather drown than ever risk becoming Reek again. Tragic character indeed.

I really liked when Tyrion tries to mansplain to Dany about Varys and she shut him down hard. You go girl.

Also, if this is how they get around the wall, it's another one of those "why the fuck did they include that" moments; specifically about Bran being touched by the Night's King. It makes sense that Bran is the key that allows them to break the magic of the wall. To Mcguffin a fucking ice bridge is just stupid.

This show really is going to end up like LOST. Last two seasons ruin what could've been with a bunch of magic and dumb shit that makes no sense. 5 years from now we'll all have forgotten about this show.

To be fair, Varys kind of put her in her place and he doesn't even have a cock any more.
