Oh yeah, and this reminded me. I said all the Dragonstone shit was cringe last night, but I really wanted to highlight the Varys scene. That one really bugged me. It was just completely out of left field. One of those, "oh shit, we need some conflict" scenes.
It's like Daenerys suddenly thought it was time for some infighting. "We've finally managed to make it to Westeros...time to start ripping apart my inner circle, because reasons!"
If you can't tell, I'm really disappointed in the writing this season.
Jesus, thisbthread moves faster than the politics thread.
I don't have an issue at all with the prince/princess translation.....but did anyone watch the "Inside the episode" on HBO after?
D.B. Weiss explains how "refreshing" it is to see 4 women at the table discussing the invasion of Westeros and how it would have been boring with 4 men.
That only pissed me off because I didn't even notice that it was 4 women during the episode. Fucker.
So, why did they decide to go with 1k ships out of nowhere instead of the dragon horn as Euron's threat? The latter is far more believable, especially where Euron's been. Is someone else getting that horn instead? Are ships just "easier" for the average audience to understand? I don't get it.
So that's what that weird symbol on the Greyjoy squid is.

A magical horn that lures dragons is more believable? So, why did they decide to go with 1k ships out of nowhere instead of the dragon horn as Euron's threat? No they're just going with the "we know they should auto-win if they use the dragons, so... lets just contrive some way that they don't use the dragons!"
It's like Dany waited until her dragons were grown and she had an army to come over here with and then gets here and decides not to use either.
In the GoT universe, yes. It's established in the books already and Euron's been to the Ruins of Valyria. It's very believable that he could find an artifact like that. More so than 1k ships from the Iron Islands.A magical horn that lures dragons is more believable?
That whole scene really bothered me. How many years he's been serving her already, through all the shit conquering and holding cities, sailed to westeros, brought her two of the biggest allies against Cersei, and NOW out of the blue wants to question his loyalty? Seems like me and Tyrion had that wtf look on our faces the entire time.

I don't remember Euron being established in the show the way he was in the books, that he had all sorts of crazy high end gear like Valyrian armor. I could just be forgetting. In the GoT universe, yes. It's established in the books already and Euron's been to the Ruins of Valyria. It's very believable that he could find an artifact like that. Don't get me wrong, both are bullshit contrived threats that are just supposed to be foils to invincible dragons and/or armies. The books do a better job of introducing the horn.
You're right, they didn't. Would have been nice to give him some character development since he's one of the few good new developments in the latter books.I don't remember Euron being established in the show the way he was in the books, that he had all sorts of crazy high end gear like Valyrian armor. More than likely the horn was a giant nothing-burger. More shit GRRM came up with that amounts to nothing in the story. So, why did they decide to go with 1k ships out of nowhere instead of the dragon horn as Euron's threat? Oh right, sand snakes ending up being complete and utter trash tier fighters was pretty comical.
one moment they're saying how easily they could kill the mountain
one minute later, one dies to a nobody and the other gets impaled lmao
Where was the 3rd one anyway?
Eh? You're kind of forgetting about the whole fact that Varys is the one who smuggled Daenerys and Viserys to Essos to be taken care of by Illyrio in the first place. He hasnt served her through any of that. He and tyrion were in Volantis. Jorah Kidnapped Tyrion and took him to Dany. We didnt see Varys again until After Dany fled the pits on Drogon. He showed up and joined Tyrion to help stabilize mereen. He left to go secure allies while Dany was still gone. So basically he doesnt meet her until they all get on the boats and head for Dragonstone.
So yes, its a bit forced and out of nowhere. But hes literally a part of her inner circle that she doesnt know and has many reasons to question.
in the cabin below deck, she got taken prisoner. did you even watch the episode?

Varys is the only reason she's even alive, and is the one behind bringing her (or her brother) back to Westeros to rule.
I mean, shit, he's probably the most loyal to her family in the entire fucking series.
