Jesus, thisbthread moves faster than the politics thread.

I don't have an issue at all with the prince/princess translation.....but did anyone watch the "Inside the episode" on HBO after?
D.B. Weiss explains how "refreshing" it is to see 4 women at the table discussing the invasion of Westeros and how it would have been boring with 4 men.

That only pissed me off because I didn't even notice that it was 4 women during the episode. Fucker.

So, why did they decide to go with 1k ships out of nowhere instead of the dragon horn as Euron's threat? The latter is far more believable, especially where Euron's been. Is someone else getting that horn instead? Are ships just "easier" for the average audience to understand? I don't get it.

Oh yeah, and this reminded me. I said all the Dragonstone shit was cringe last night, but I really wanted to highlight the Varys scene. That one really bugged me. It was just completely out of left field. One of those, "oh shit, we need some conflict" scenes.

It's like Daenerys suddenly thought it was time for some infighting. "We've finally managed to make it to Westeros...time to start ripping apart my inner circle, because reasons!"

If you can't tell, I'm really disappointed in the writing this season.

That whole scene really bothered me. How many years he's been serving her already, through all the shit conquering and holding cities, sailed to westeros, brought her two of the biggest allies against Cersei, and NOW out of the blue wants to question his loyalty? Seems like me and Tyrion had that wtf look on our faces the entire time.

Ship battle was fine, not going to question how the fuck they found them in the middle of nowhere, and managed to sneak up on them with that massive fleet, or find the "admirals" ship like it was out in the lead.

Then they went and killed off 4 women in the ship battle, I guess that made it refreshing and interesting too lol.

No they're just going with the "we know they should auto-win if they use the dragons, so... lets just contrive some way that they don't use the dragons!"

It's like Dany waited until her dragons were grown and she had an army to come over here with and then gets here and decides not to use either.

So that's what that weird symbol on the Greyjoy squid is.

us$enron.gif

Euron has his own crest of a Red Eye with Black Crows. Makes more sense in book when he wears an eye patch and is called Crows Eye.

Anywho, they just added that to the middle of the Greyjoy Kraken.

Now now, let's not get hasty. That could still happen

In the GoT universe, yes. It's established in the books already and Euron's been to the Ruins of Valyria. It's very believable that he could find an artifact like that. More so than 1k ships from the Iron Islands.

Don't get me wrong, both are bullshit contrived threats that are just supposed to be foils to invincible dragons and/or armies. The books do a better job of introducing the horn.

He hasnt served her through any of that. He and tyrion were in Volantis. Jorah Kidnapped Tyrion and took him to Dany. We didnt see Varys again until After Dany fled the pits on Drogon. He showed up and joined Tyrion to help stabilize mereen. He left to go secure allies while Dany was still gone. So basically he doesnt meet her until they all get on the boats and head for Dragonstone.

So yes, its a bit forced and out of nowhere. But hes literally a part of her inner circle that she doesnt know and has many reasons to question.

If Dorne is getting taken out of the equation and the Tyrell bannermen don't back Olenna against the crown then they might just be positioning Dany to have to go back on her decision to keep the dragons out of the fighting.

I don't remember Euron being established in the show the way he was in the books, that he had all sorts of crazy high end gear like Valyrian armor. I could just be forgetting.

You're right, they didn't. Would have been nice to give him some character development since he's one of the few good new developments in the latter books.

But, I don't see it would be that hard to establish him as a roaming pirate that has been to all sorts of places. That's like one short conversation of exposition.

More than likely the horn was a giant nothing-burger. More shit GRRM came up with that amounts to nothing in the story.

Eh? You're kind of forgetting about the whole fact that Varys is the one who smuggled Daenerys and Viserys to Essos to be taken care of by Illyrio in the first place.

Varys is the only reason she's even alive, and is the one behind bringing her (or her brother) back to Westeros to rule.

I mean, shit, he's probably the most loyal to her family in the entire fucking series.

Bruh i got them mixed up, i thought they killed her for some reason not kidnapped her lol

either way, they went pretty hard on the 'famous last words' emphasis in that episode, the girls talk shit then get put in their place.

theon is 'the protector' then gets cucked and goes full reek-tard

now our fat boy hot pie is destine to get murdered for saying he was a survivor

Yeah, He helped get her out. Then as she pointed out, he spent the next 20 years serving the Baratheons who Killed her brother, and Lannisters who killed her Father, Sister in law, baby nieces and nephews and the rest of her family. And she was a baby. She never met or talked to him. And then he hired an assasin to kill her, and sold her to a dorthraki horde. and then turned on the people she had been serving. She was actually justified and this was their first time on screen together to have this play out.

This is the only time I have thought Dany made any sense. She called him out for being loyal to whomever keeps him alive, but he changed her mind by explaining he serves the people of the realm above all else.

I'm not sure why Theon wasn't ended then and there. He's had his arc and really doesn't have shit to offer anyone. Anything heroic or significant that comes from him now will feel forced. He saved Sansa, revealed Bran and Rickons status and made his way home as a soulless husk. I'm not going to buy into him being useful at this point.
