What? What magical shit (other than the wall which existed for 8k years) was in the world prior to the comet? Dire wolves showed up south of the wall around the same time
Children of the Forest. Three-Eyed Crow. The White Walkers (literally the first scene). Dire Wolves were obviously south before because that is the second scene...

Then you have bloodmagic of the maegi, the necromancers of Qohor, the Red Priests...

TONS of magic before the comet showed up.

Edit - Fuck you Tarrant.

the everyday GoT magic isnt the same as the post-comet GoT magic. basically everything got supercharged. it made daeny's dragon eggs go from dormant to active. turned wildfire into super wildfire. it probably caused the Night King to have an erection that lasted longer than 4 hours and now he marches south for the cure.
To be fair it was a deep magic in that fire. He was her moon and stars. The dragon was said to come from such and she burned a black magic bitch while doing it AND her being in the fire. It was said in another season one even drank wildfire into thinking that was the way to bring the dragons or turn into one. He died a horrible death.

Basically I think she got the recipe lucky.

Sorry should have said in Westeros (not north of the wall or across the narrow sea). Was pretty clear that the men of westeros abandoned all of various forms of magic (cough the citadel) but now it can't be contained

Valyrian Steel and the making of wildfire are both quoted multiple times as being "arcane" and Maesters earn a Valyrian link in their chains for the study of magic. And again, the direwolves were south of the wall before the comet.

The Pyromancers have still been around in Westeros.

The Children of the Forest were around as well.

Magic is indeed much more rare in Westeros, but it's still there and always has been.

The creepy dude who turned the mountain into a walking zombie is a pyromancer man. He's always been around too.

And it doesn't matter how they are perceived, they are still there and still practicing the arcane.

Maester who was banished and did that happen before the comet???

Considering they talked about how the mad king would going to burn the whole city with wild fire, yes, its been around and been made before the comet. He had people making it. Pyromancers have been around for as long as they talk about the history of Westeros.
