Smoking my eye of round, sans marinade, today. It's looking awesome. I also smoked a log of bologna earlier and it is delicious.

I'll be thick cutting the bologna into rounds for sliders tomorrow with homemade bbq sauce, pickle chips and chopped onion. So good.

Home made bologna? Wtf? this is real? Oscar Meyer isn't the only makers? How do I do this? Smoked? Thick cut? I'm so hungry right now...

.. Help...

Nah, the bologna/baloney isn't home made, but that would be sweet. I think it was Frick's. 3" dia. x 12" long, about the size of the average American dong. I cut it about 3/8" thick for the sliders.

Anyone have an electric deep fryer? Ive always wanted one and was looking at some. To make some wings, chicken strips, fries, shit like that. Looking at this one... Breville - BDF500XL

I have a little cheap one(doesn't look like it's available any more -Amazon.com: 1.2 Liter Deep Fryer: Kitchen Dining).

Works well for one or two people. If you're attempting to make any decent size batch, though, it's way too small. It stinks my entire house up for a week though. I hate deep frying for that reason alone. That Breville looks much nicer.

They are useless. Too damn small and a hassle to clean. Nobody wants to make 6 wings at a time. Just get a wok and a probe thermometer and do it on your stove top.

Well thats exactly what I do now and it sucks. Thats why I was looking at that thing. People are saying that it holds the temps really good and it is a bit bigger than 6 wings, lol.. Its 4 quarts (roughly 4 liters) so its notthatsmall.

There's a reason you don't fry much at home and it isn't because you don't have an electric deep fryer.

I have a double basket electric fryer. I think it's 6 quarts? I used it like 3 times and then put it away forever. It is literally the biggest pain in the ass to clean and keep usable for little benefit. The french fries and wings I made with it certainly were better than sticking them in the oven, but not so much better that it made it worth the hassle.

You could always get a propane fish fryer and use it outside.

Same here.

For the annual superbowl fry, I use three giant stock pots that I got at Wally World. Nice tall sides, so no spatter (Dexter), and easy clean.

I think I want that.

What are you looking to improve on? What do you think would be better with the electric one?
Electric ones hold temperature automatically. You can also leave the oil in them and use it several times, which you don't usually do if you're using a wok or skillet. Less mess, less cleanup, takes less skill and knowledge of cooking. There are several advantages.

The temperature thing is sort of true, but mainly you just don't know what the temperature is so you assume it's holding. I don't agree at all with the less mess and less cleanup, and you're not going to leave the oil in it unless you're using it multiple times a week in which case you could leave the oil in your wok or stock pot as well. Tall sides plus this thing mostly takes care of spatter. I have an electric fryer collecting dust in my basement and it sucks ass.

Maybe it's my lack of a basement that has me biased. I can't hide my little shitty deep fryer anywhere!

Does anyone have a good recipe for flour tortillas? The tortilla talk here lately inspired me to try them last night but I was unimpressed with the results. It might have been partly that I didn't roll them thin enough, but they just cracked when you tried to fold them. They weren't resilient like a store bought tortilla at all.
