I made a meatloaf once where I mixed up a regular meatloaf recipe, then rolled it out flat on a sheet of plastic. Then I added a layer of prosciutto, a layer of thin sliced mozzarella, and spread duxelle over it, rolled it jelly roll style, and wrapped it in puff pastry. It was fucking awesome. I need to do that again.
I think I just came a little.

Edit: A little baby gravy, if you will.

I doubt your kids are going to care one way or the other because they don't understand the amount of skill that's involved in cooking a good meatloaf or a good hamburger, even though both are essentially ground up meat patties. Just don't go overboard, the wife might get jealous.
Well its special for us because I never cook it. And my kids like meat in general so I think it will be a good plan. Although Brutul's method sounds awesome.

Brutal, did you make your own puff pastry, or did you buy it? Seems like a major pain in the ass to make from scratch.

Caribbean week continues to be fucking amazing.

Madethis"stewed" beef tonight. I cut my beef in thin strips and used asparagus, bean sprouts, and bell peppers, so I didn't stew mine at all. It was fantastic. Also made the old standby ofMexican grilled corn, which is basically the only way to ever make corn on the cob.

To me, the original recipe sounds pretty decent. Your addition of the asparagus and bean sprouts... two of my least favorite ingredients.

I take a lot of heat around here for not liking asparagus; it seems the whole family loves that retarded cousin to grass.

Anyway, I'm liking your 'theme' week, may have to do something along these lines.

Hamloaf. And I'm not even kidding.

Edit:

2 lbs. ground ham. This you probably will do yourself since it's leftover ham. Grinder if available, a food processor doesn't work as well.
1 lb. ground beef
1 cup bread product - whatever you like, crackers/panko/dried bread crumbs
2 eggs
black pepper

400 for 30 min, then 350 until done

Here's why it's good:

1 cup - Water
1 cup - Vinegar
1 cup - white sugar

Boil down to about 3/4 to 1/2 and add in yellow mustard. I never measure. A few good squirts.

After the first 30 minutes, cut the heat, and top the hamloaf with this mixture. Keep applying the sauce every half hour or so. It'll only be about another hour on 350. When it's done, and you'll know by the caramelizing of the sauce, pour the last of the sauce over the loaf before service.

I make Brazilian black bean stew, feijoada. Since my step dad was raised in brasil, we had this shit all the time around the house.

I use ham hocks for flavor, add some sausage, like kielbasa 2 1lb bags of presoaked black beans. Then add the ham towards the end. But ham would go well in any bean type soup/stew.
