I have a psychological problem to certain things being mixed. Casseroles are borderline gross, but I can handle it. But chili? I can't handle it. I like every ingredient in chili, but mix it together, can't handle it. But if I use a little, on top of say, corn bread, now it's a "topping" and I can eat it, and it's good. But a huge bowl? Gag.

Love soups, but not chili! While I can handle casseroles most of the time, I can't handle noodle goulash's... I think because of how much I relate it to Hamburger Helper, which is just gross. For the longest time I hated ground beef in my spaghetti sauce.

Anyone else have weird food aversions that don't make sense? lol

Chili on top of buttered cornbread is the only way that chili is any good. It's a great topping... same with chili on a hotdog. It's a great topping!

Yeah, I'm not sure I believe Deathwing was being serious about questioning why you'd put chili on cornbread. Growing up, that was the default way we ate chili: take cornbread muffin, separate muffin top from muffin bottom, and top the flat surface of each with a heaping spoonful of chili. Delightful.

Chili goes great on tater tots, as well, and pretty much any other potato-based food (baked potato, fries, etc.).

It was purposefully silly. Personally, I think that's a great way to ruin the cornbread unless your chili is incredibly thick or you eat it really fast.

That's what I figured. I'm glad to see you're only about 95% emotionless, efficient robot and there's still a shred of humanity buried within you.

I don't really cook with recipes very often, so that's the closest one I could find for Ao's reference, don't hate.

Recipes are for Women.

I don't see how. The cornbread I usually eat isn't easily dunkable and it falls apart too easily when submerged.

Just because your bread does that doesn't mean everyone's does. A decently baked corn bread with a harder crust split in half makes for an acceptable platform for soups and chili dipping or bread bowls.

I've made chili based sloppy joe style sandwiches on densely crusted cornbread.

Crisped polenta cakes can be used in this manner as well.

For instance, crispy polenta and a white wine chicken breast are a pretty common request from the GF these days.
