Wife wanted an electric ice cream maker for Christmas so I bought one and it got here today. Going to make some tomorrow.
We ordered a stick blender for Christmas over Thanksgiving week, but the stupid thing has to sit under our tree so I have something to open. Made a soup this week and glared at the box as I scooped it into our blender.

The immersion blenders are pretty nice for a bunch of things, but it makes hollandaise sauce super fucking simple.

Alton Browns frozen custard recipe is the best that I've tried in our ice cream maker. It's worth the effort, and don't skip the last step of putting the liquid custard in the fridge over night. Makes it a lot smoother & creamier in the end.

FYI, Heavy cream gets marked up to RIDICULOUS prices around Christmas because of all the people baking and making desserts and such. I got an ice cream maker last year around Christmas and a pint of heavy cream was like $8 at the grocery store the week before Christmas. Come January it was back down to its normal $2-$3 or so.

Got a recipe? I just used the powdered stuff after attempting to make it from scratch once and failing miserably. The powdered stuff is actually pretty good though.

Haven't done the recipe myself, but it's one egg yolk to a whole stick of butter that you heat up to the point where it's past bubbling. So I'm guessing that's enough heat.

Definitely going to be one of the first things I make with a stick blender though.
