It will make more then 50 mill in the opening weekend. Its August, its fucking hot outside, and its a MCU movie. Hell Hulk in 2008 made more then 50 million, and it had just been made a few years prior and that one was BAD. Marvel also was nowhere near the brand level they are at now.

i think it's interesting that there's a good deal of star power in the movie, but they aren't really advertising any of it. I mean, djaimon hansou and john c reilly are the only big stars with speaking lines. I love chris pratt but he's not the same caliber actor as benecio del toro but there's been ZERO mention in any of the trailers that he's even in it
Pretty sure there was a shot of Benicio in the first trailer.
At this point with the momentum this franchise has there is zero chance of this movie bombing, the movies are all connected storywise.

With this movie, the connection is really only made with the rest of the Marvel movieverse by those in the know who can connect a post credit scene in a movie with a brief presence in a trailer. People will see this movie, because the trailer was shown before the other Marvel movies and the trailer shows a big budget action comedy with a rag tag team of space travelers. That looks fresh and fun.

yeah, I think that's my point. there is definitely some heavy hitters in the movie, acting wise... but marvel at this point doesn't need the actors to sell the movie. so they get to just put a giant MARVEL sign on the movie and let the story be what it is. the trailers are totally selling the movie based solely on peter quill being space Indiana jones reject with friends. can't wait to see it
Gunn spilled some spoilers for his own film. Which is not too surprising given the events of the prequel comic.
First of all, it probably won't shock anyone to learn that Thanos will be the link between the two movies, in that he's going to show up in GotG - Gunn calls him the "head of the snake" - which means he's almost certainly going to be the main villain of Avengers 3. Nice to finally have confirmation, though!
. Star-Lord was kidnapped from Earth when he was 8 years old and grew up among "a group of thieves and smugglers called the Ravagers" who I'm desperately hoping are going to be based on the space pirates known as the Starjammers in the comics (although presumably without Cyclops' dad in charge).
. Gamora and Nebula were raised together as sisters by Thanos, after Thanos murdered the rest of Gamora's family. "They were bio engineered to become living weapons, so he's really good at killing people," says Gunn. So clearly there's been a bit of a falling out between the two, since they're definitely having a pretty major fight scene.

The release of info that it'll be a lead in to Avengers 3 will help it at the box office for sure. I don't expect it to do 100 million opening, but 50 seems a low number given the juggernaut Marvel movies have become. 60-75 million seems reasonable.
