So, I quit GW2 a couple of months after release. I got extremely bored once I hit 80 with the lack of loot. I'm interested in the new content, i'm not sure if it can hold my attention though if there still isn't that feeling of loot progression. Has this changed at all, or is it pretty much the same GW2 from launch?
it's the same. It still sucks

For loot, it still sucks. In fact, I can't name one piece of loot during my trip to 80. It was all sanitized, database friendly, formula-obeying mediocre loot.

There's *some* WvW progression now in the form of a sanitized Realm Rank like system, but it's really just like +.00000001% betterer to...something.

character progression in this game is just no fun. If you dont enjoy the actual combat and/or the exploring, its probably better to stay away.

I just did a few hidden areas I didnt know before because they placed those living story pirate cache nearby and had a blast. The asura evil genius lab complete with shark pit for example. Wish there was much more of that and less focus on clicking 100 pinatas/signs/bonfires during the living story.

You'd think it'd be pretty easy to name a piece of loot considering some of the names are reused across all 80 levels of itemization! :)

I just realized I said sanitized twice in the same short post. I'm really not a neat freak, I promise

It's not too bad if you're super casual, but I also only play about 1-3 hours a day and spvp alot. Not denying character progression sucks but it's something to pass the time til Wildstar or EQN.

of course it doesnt feel like loot progression. the game is not a loot treadmill. progress is horizontal.

Ruby berzerkers is just as good now.

Logged back in the other day. and felt more overwhelmed then anything else. probably should have jumped on an alt, so I would have had more structure on what to do. instead of having 100 different things I could have done. living story, zones, spvp, world pvp, holiday events, fractals, etc.

You really can't argue with their 2 week content cycle, that shit is just incredible for a FTP game.

There's actually a lot of loot progression if you're a class that can make use of all the celestial-stat ascended pieces. That raised my elementalist in power by quite a bit once I had it all, before she got anally raped by a 2x4 with rusty nails in it.

yeah, I really don't get nerfing ele's into the ground every patch. It's the only class I play so I guess I'll continue to play it and hope they make some adjustments.

EDIT: l keep hoping they'll make more build variations, also what the fuck is up with Arcane Abatement? That is the worst trait skill ever.

Ascended gear is an ok upgrade path, no complaints there. It also takes just the right amount of time. But its all cookie cutter, template-based and currency-bought (mostly). Thats boring as hell.

And bi-weekly upgrades are nice. Even better would be monthly updates with more meat though. And less bugs and exploits.

And my main beef: Give me one good reason why molten weapons facility and aetherblade retreat arent permanent. Those two and some fractals are the best group content in the game. And Anet makes them 2 week affairs? Whoever decides what content is temporary or permanent is an idiot.

I think the best summary of their update pattern is "elaborate commercial for the newest gem store skins".

New Rewards

In the upcoming release, we're adding a reward structure to achievement points. As you complete achievements and increase your achievement score, you'll unlock new, exclusive rewards for your account. Don't worry - the system is retroactive! Every point that you've earned while adventuring across Tyria will count towards exciting rewards, including:
Exclusive armor and weapon skin unlocks - including Radiant armor, Hellfire armor, and the Zenith weapon set.
Permanent account bonuses-permanent boosts to Magic Find, experience from kills, karma gain, and more. Earn achievement points on any character and get rewards for all of your characters.
Currencies - gold, gems, karma, and laurels.
PvP Rewards-skins and glory boosters.
WvW Rewards-use Badges of Honor and siege blueprints to help push your server to victory.
Utility Items-Instant Repair Canisters, Revive Orbs, powerful boosters, and more.
Unique Titles-show off your dedication to your fellow players.
Play the way you want and earn powerful rewards as you do so!

New User Interface

In addition to the new reward structure, we've revamped the achievements panel UI to make it easier than ever to dig into the achievements system. There are some big changes:
Summary page-This page gives you quick access to all of the achievement skins you've unlocked, achievements you've recently completed, and your account bonuses.
Details page-Use this page to drill down into individual achievements to find detailed objectives, point breakdowns, and other useful information like suggested locations and potential rewards.
Watch list-Track up to 20 specific achievements in the Watch List panel and display the top six in the HUD.
Category grouping-Achievement categories are now organized into groups to allow faster navigation and easier access to the information you want.
We'll continue to work on improving systems and rewards across the entire game, and we're excited for what lies ahead! Thanks for reading, and I'll see you in Tyria!

By actually adding rewards for unlocking achievements (rather than just an ever-increasing, useless number), it's going to somewhat open a new path of progression as it should encourage people to explore and do things they might not have previously felt there any reason to do. It's the sort of system I was hoping we'd see implemented for WvW.

Yeah I think they should like, make a fractal version of molten weapon facility and aetherblade retreat and add them to the rotation.

I vaguely recall seeing a dev post on their forums where they talked about that as a possibility (at least, I think I do); didn't make any promises, but brought it up as possible

EDIT: Yep,found it:

And as mentioned earlier, the dungeons people enjoy from our living world release will be researched by the keepers of the Fractals of the Mist and used as way to continue to expand and build on our fractals permanently going forward.
So it actually was a firmer promise than I was recalling.

I've been playing casually the last few days just fucking around with alts. Kind of sad that they're putting 90% of their effort into making it a casual achievement farming type affair instead of an engaging PvP experience, but it's a good way to kill time for an hour or two I guess. Tried stepping back into WvW but the zones were either dead or a one sided clusterfuck. Ahh well, such is life and all that.

I enjoy the shit out of this game, but I'm a altoholic with limited time at disposal, so for me it's map discovery, jumping puzzle (which I love) and dungeons (both story and explorable). Gear: I don't care, but I stopped caring around PoP, about 10 years ago. I'll buy or craft some exotics and live with them.

Currently playing power necromancer and after patch it got even better, planning on going for a full death shroud build for shit and giggles by the time I'm at level cap and geared up a bit. There is nothing wrong with gw2, except it's not like every other raid-or-die mmo and item progression is unexistant (well ascended gear not-withstanding).

Different teams. There is a specific team just for PvP, which has been focused on esports type stuff over the past few updates. There is a new PvP map coming out next week, though I really wish they'd add some new types of PvP gameplay. After the holiday CTF minigame, I was sort of hopeful that that was a sign that they'd be adding CTF to PvP. GW1 had so many different types of PvP, so I don't understand why they are so focused on just Conquest for GW2.
