Ah you must be a completionist. Hearts are the most traditional of the PvE activity types. However, you need them all for World completion which you need for legendaries. Every map also has a major quest chain (or a few). Try and do these as well because they carry the zone's story and even in one case open up new areas like a puzzle dungeon.
Is world completion account wide or per character? My one character is around 40% completed. If I ever play this game again think I would rather do all the other lower level zones with an alt to get the other 60% assuming it is account wide.

No, it's per character so that you can get multiple rewards.

Trailer is up on the GW2 site, and yes, it's "The Gates of Maguuma". So here's to hoping for new Maguuma zones.

(of course, the trailer doesn't give the slightest hint of what it's going to be about, except, you know, we go there, and a bunch of bad guys await us)
So other people don't have to look for it:

Btw has there been any talks about actually doing an expansion? Or like, new classes at least? GW1 had plenty of expansions and they all added a lot of cool stuff to the game, Factions has Assassin, Ritualist, lots of new skills and all the asian content, Nightfall had Dervish, the much harder pve content and the african/arabian content and the last expansion had all the cool story stuff, special skills and also hard content, maybe the lighter on features but interesting stuff nonetheless.

In comparison the updates they're doing seem fairly crappy, they're doing new stuff often but it's very small in size and everytime I look at the game there isn't much that makes me feel like I should reinstall the game.

For an unfair comparison, I'm a lot more interested in potentially resubbing to FFXIV because of the constant major updates than to reinstall GW2 and play for free. FFXIV is getting another primal fight, another new raiding zone, another new dungeon, couple of hard modes, chocobo raising, personnal housing(partly this next patch only) and the patch after it's getting an entire new class even though it's not even an expansion. Every FFXIV update I feel like resubbing even though so far I haven't, but everytime I hear about GW2 I don't even bother reinstalling the game, even though it's free.

I want to make sure I get this right before I start the craft grind.

I can buy the best Weapons in the game but I have to craft the best Armor. Is that correct?

If yes, then why not go Armorsmith and Jewel Crafter and just earn gold to buy a Legendary Weapon instead of playing the RNG and losing gold?

You can buy legendaries yes, but expect to pay out the ass for them, we're talking 3k+ gold in some prices. You can only craft ascended weapons and armor(or get lucky on drops or wvw rank up chest, trinkets you can buy a couple different ways), the weapons will have the same amount of stats as legendaries because legendaries will always share the top stats on weapons. If they were to release weapons with higher stats, legendaries would be bumped to that level. Either way, crafting ascended is a massive gold dump/grind.

P.S you can craft trinkets and sell them, but how much ectos you have? it cost 5 ectos to make any of the exotic trinkets. I crafted 4 pieces yesterday for my mesmer so I burnt through 20 ectos, I can't imagine making that huge of a profit off them, you pretty much have to wait on new 80's to buy because people move to ascended trinkets quickly some may even skip exotics if they have enough laurels or trinks sitting the bank already.

So if I'm level 80 and I go back to the lower level zones, which reduces my level to whatever level the zone is, are the loot and cash drops based on a level 80 or whatever my reduced level is?

It's based on the level the zone is.

Is cooking worth a damn?
Yes on four levels:

1. Foodstuffs at high level give a great advantage. The buffs are very useful
2. You can get 10 levels from maxing it out and it's a pretty easy one to level off the auction house.
3. It's pretty cool to just up tons and tons of materials in the bank and then go back and figure out recipes (without cheating).
4. You can get plus exp to levelling up to like 10 percent VERY easilly with food.

You are a lego playing SOB Oblio, I've tried to talk to you on three different ocassions!

I find it interesting how much attention this thread is getting lately, especially after being dormant for so long.

What I did for crafting Oblio was hit 70 then use all my resources I had gathered to hit 80 in about half an hour. I did when the guild lotto a few times though so that helped.

Nope. Based on your level too. Sort of not as good as where you were but still a chance to get good stuff for your level. I think chests are still locked to the zone but drops and boss bags are still that mix of your level and the zone.

Sorry bro, I work from home and the nanny called in sick today, so i am trying to game, work and watch kids. My life is so hard :p

I would like to take credit in bumping the shit out of this thread, maybe ARENA/NCSOFT will send me some nice stuff for it.

Thanks Hekto and sorry again.

The very best WEAPONS are legendaries because you can change their stats and they have cool effects. Those are a HUGE grind across most phases of the game to make. set that aside. (though you could buy them with real money - alot of real money)

Ascended WEAPONS have the same level of stats as LEGENDARIES but no special graphics and they cannot be stat changed on the fly. So a DPS stated Ascended sword has the same stats as a Legendary Sword with it's stats set to that DPS spec. However, you can change the stats of the legendary any time out of combat.

There is NO Legendary Armor in game yet.

ASCENDED ARMOR and WEAPONS are acquired from CRAFTING or From DROPS. If you craft them they are a good solid slog to get all the stuff. If you go for drops then the stat set you get is random and it can take a while to get what you want.

Then there are ascended trinkets, rings back pieces and neck pieces...but that is for another post.

They haven't talked about any expansions at all, which is really odd. I can't imagine they aren't working on something though, because the living story updates are a bit lackluster to say the least, so maybe they are just trying to direct hype on the continuous updates, if they started talking about expansion, nobody would give a shit about the tiny patches. There must be a roadmap and if another season of story updates leads to an expansion, that could be pretty cool, however no vertical character progression gives them very limited room to make stuff memorable.
