Nah. The modern tea party has another facet of hypocrisy where they pretend to be a continuation of demanding the ruling government stay out of their business, but in reality they're generally for a large military and large entitlement programs (The biggest parts of the government). The NRA is much more consistent in their beliefs.

Let's not go overboard trying to demonize the NRA either. They are forced into the extreme position on gun-control because their opposition consists almost entirely of the opposite extreme. Every major issue in American society is fought over by polarized extremists.
I'm going to assume that the majority of current NRA members do not agree with current direction of the organization. Many of us are lifetime members from 20-30 years ago when they were more interested in shooting sports than the political machine.
And many firearms owners will support them even if they do not agree with them because, like it or not they are the only org that has real power supporting the 2A.

Gun Control is broken up into two categories; a registry for legal arms, and the removal of dangerous arms.
Don't try and defend your right to bare arms when it comes to weapons designed to inflict as many casualties as possible as logical.
In Canada, automatic weapons , assault rifles, explosive ammunition, and fragmentation weapons are all banned. Handguns are allowed but must abide by strict rules of caliber and clip size, and must be registered, and you must take handgun safety courses by law. You must separate the gun from the ammunition for storage.
Rifles in Canada were controlled using a registry. This type of control for a weapon that rarely is part of a murder WAS a waste of time and money as it did punish law abiding citizens who use rifles to hunt and shoot. Rifles are not a form of personal protection.
Handguns were designed to kill people at close range, as personal protection. Are you that scared of whats around you that you must carry a gun? Many of my friends up here in Canada love guns, they own handguns and rifles. But there is no reason for their handgun to contain 30 round magazines.
Stop trying to defend your thoughts of the matter on your 200 year old constitution. If you don't evolve from the principles held back in the 1800's, you will be stuck with prejudice towards people and cultures you don't understand or agree with. So instead of trying to adapt, you Americans ask the government to CONTROL your freedoms in exchange to feel safe. This cannot come at the expense of the one thing that will cause death and injury though god forbids it.
I have never seen so many gated communities in my life as I have in California. Airport security is getting out of control because you are scared something might happen to you. Statistically nothing will happen to you in a plane even before all the 9/11 BS. A nervous and paranoid society should not be allowed weapons that are meant to kill large groups of people.
Stop being so scared of what might happen to you from some random act of violence, all the while eating your garbage food that 1 in 3 Americans will die from due to obesity or god knows what. Look towards your cheap tobacco that kills hundreds of thousands of americans each year. Look to your car you drive to work with, that car kills more people a year than your casualties in both Iraqi and Afganistan every month. Stop being scared pussies, that is not what I grew up as a Canadian watching you Americans. I always thought you were brave and resilient. How times have changed as I watch your country fall on the way side.
Your problems stem from your lost identity. Your fear drives you to guns. Legitimate guns are not the problem, look at all other developed countries that control the spread of dangerous weapons. Your country with your cultural problems only amplify the need to remove these weapons. Where are all your shootings using only 7 round handguns killing off a dozen people? They don't exist.
And don't blame your president, thats just creating a scapegoat so you can be lazy fucks.

Some ammunition is illegal too because of the added effects. Civilians have no use for hollow point and armour piercing rounds.

You can argue caliber all you want, but FMJ rounds are ineffective in a lot of cases.

The only completely random gun murders I have heard of in Canada not at a school are the bystanders in a gang shooting. And when its handguns, rarely do the victims die. Nobody is going to randomly kill you, just like every arab isn't going to blow you up.
Stop getting so offended by people telling you that guns are a major part of the problem.
