Use Monoprice for getting your wall mount...it'll be 1/3 the price of Amazon.

And TVs are so light nowadays its not like you need some expensive behemoth of a mount that supports 200lbs or anything.

They have a 60 inch 4k LED Samsung smart tv for 800 bucks at best buy right now. Looks like the same one is also on Amazon. and there is a 65 inch 4k for around 900 on the same site.

That's pretty nuts how much these panels have gone down.

Cheaper/better than the $25 one I was thinking of getting?

I might considering buying a Samsung online. The panel lottery makes me weary though.

Actually I looked up that Vizio e-series someone posted and it has probably the best reviews in the price range (and other price ranges) on Rtings. Gonna pick up a 48 inch for the office.

Just remember Vizio's go heavy on the panel lottery so you can either get an amazing one, or one that isn't so hot.

I have one Vizio I bought 5 years back that has a beautiful picture even by todays standards. So you can definitely win out with that company.

IMO, if anyone is buying a new TV I wouldn't get anything that isn't 4K at this point. You can see manufacturers are doing their big push to get them in all homes so that means the content is right around the corner.

Good thing being our Internet caps will probly raise with it

Considering this one over that one. Has the new SUHD panel. With my discount, I'd take it home at only $900. Can't fit a 60" in my TV space right now, anyway.

If you still consider the 6200, the 60 inch version is on the dell outlet for the same price and comes with a $200 dell card:

I got this to finally replace my 10+ year old rear projection dinosaur, largely because we are getting my mom a laptop for Christmas, so I can use the $200 giftcard towards that. I didn't really need the newest, latest, up-to-datest thing, but just something that hopefully will last until 4k is the new norm.

But the thing is, I don't have anything to hook up to it other than a Playstation. For the past ~6 months anything I've watched TV-wise has been through my PC, and I'm not entirely sure how to get the content over to the new large screen when it arrives. Some of the more major ones, YouTube, Hulu, etc, should just have apps that I can put on the TV, so that seems simple. And I'd assume that other not-so-legal streaming sites should work, provided I can get to them in the TV's browser. But, there's two things that I'm really not sure how to do: 1) Random crap I've already torrented, in a variety of formats - .avi, .mp4, .mkv, etc, and 2) Network Streams in VLC and/or Ace Player, mostly just for watching NFL.

Would Chromecast, or something similar, be able to do those things? Or can a smart TV itself play that stuff? Pretty new territory for me.

Alternatively, its only going to be ~15 ft from my PC, so I could just get a cable to connect the two. But the only display port I'd have open on my PC is the onboard DVI outlet, and I guess I'm not real sure if you'd need a full-fledged video card to run a 60" monitor. Also the audio would have to come through the 3.5mm jack, so I'm concerned that it would sound like ass.

Probably dumb questions, and possibly not the right thread for it, but I figure I gotta start somewhere. Any thoughts?

Smart TV has most/all that internet-sourced content built in. You probably won't need a big video card to put it up, it's just going to play at 1920x1080 like your PC would be most likely.

If you have a decent router and your TV can access the network you may have streaming options built in. Will just have to make a media folder on your computer and share it with the network. Or plenty of routers these days have usb ports where you can plug in a removable hard drive creating network storage; save stuff to it and it's still accessible when your computer is turned off.

I've also resorted to putting stuff on a flash drive and plugging it directly into my tv, though sometimes tvs can't read all formats very well.

If the TV isn't capable of any of the above plenty of DVD/Bluray players are. Including a few times I've just resorted to burning shit to a dvd as they're cheap enough I consider them disposable at this point.

Nothing is more annoying to me than navigating my TVs web browser, so I can't answer on that account, as if it doesn't have an app I usually don't bother. Not sure how comfortable I'd feel going to sketchy sites on a TV browser, though, as I feel browsers are the biggest security weakness ever and etc, but shrug, probably no big deal.

All else fails just get really long cords, but that means having your computer on, which personally annoys me if I'm trying to watch a movie or something picture/sound sensitive. Better option if you're going that route is a tablet/laptop with HDMI out.

In short, it's hard to be bound to specific media or media delivery these days. Just have to pick your poison.

Looking at the Samsung 65js8500 in store right now. Man why did they give it a silver edge? That might be enough for me to not buy it despite having the best picture in that size and price range imo.

So I ended up getting the Vizio E55 from Best Buy for $499. Checks all my boxes and it's a hell of an upgrade from my 40" Panasonic Plasma from 2005.
