I think it's ignorance and perception. They love soda, but "know" it's bad for them, but if they drink diet soda, it must be alright, cuz it has the word "diet" in it, so they drink the same of amount of soda w/o all the guilt. Pretty sure diet soda is actually worse than just regular, that aspartame stuff will probably kill millions, plus the fact that they drink diet soda in 2 liter increments.

LOL aspartame has been like one the most studied substance on earth with literally millions of subjects which have been consuming it for 30 yrs. So where is all the people dying from it?

Not saying to drink the shit like water, but still, the conspiracy theories surrounding this substance is laughable. I would rather my kids drink diet rather than the sugar filled juices and soda that is definitely worse for them.

So I did third cycle of chemo today. Already feeling worse today than I usually do on the first day.

They gave me Atavan for nausea this time and I will see how well that does.

A fairly recent study:Artificial sweeteners linked to glucose intolerance - health - 17 September 2014 - New Scientist

Nothing overly conclusive as yet, but it's an interesting read.
Thanks for the link.

They began by adding one of three commonly used sweeteners - saccharin, sucralose or aspartame - to the drinking water of healthy young mice. The dose of sweetener was the equivalent to the maximum acceptable daily intake in humans, as set by the FDA.
Googling that tells me that is ~19 cans of diet soda per day. Fatties can drink even more since it's based on body weight. I would honestly struggle to drink even 10 cans of any liquid in a day. Peeing that much is annoying. Unless it's in a butt.

Wiping out the rodents' gut bacteria using antibiotics abolished all the effects of glucose intolerance in the mice. In other words, no bacteria, no problem regulating glucose levels.
Oh, so a baking soda purge will fix this? What is everyone worried about then?!?!

Are you diabetic, Wombat? If not, you are dangerously close to being diabetic, rofl. Vitamin D takes a while to actually elevate up. I recommend (especially at that level) buyingAmazon.com: BioTech Pharmacal D3-50 (50,000 IU), 100 Capsules: Health Personal Careand taking one/day for one week and then stopping, resuming the next month at the same level, and stopping again. By the third month, you should be around 35-40.
Nope, not a diabetic, but that test result was certainly disconcerting. I'm waiting on my doc to give me a call to discuss, but considering I eat a good quality salad every day for lunch and a decent dinner each night, it's not like I'm the stereotypical fatass gorging on junk food all day. I've already sworn off most carbs as well as alcohol for almost a year now, so not sure what else I can do besides cut out the diet soda. Sure, I occasionally gorge on gluten free cookies once and awhile late at night, but nothing diabetes worthy I'd think.

Well, tomorrow is the big day. Can't say I'm overly enthused about the prospect of having the procedure done. Doc told me he's done about 90+ of these things, and 2 of those had massive strokes. And the success rate of fixing my heart rhythm is about 75%. At least he volunteered that information so I'd be informed beforehand.

As an interesting side note, they will be using an Impella device to control my blood flow during the procedure. I'll actually have no pulse for an hour or so, because the device pumps blood constantly. The downside is that the device itself makes a pretty damned big hole in my artery and I'll have to be in ICU overnight under sedation.

First of all gravy good luck. Certainly we aren't a priority in life but as soon as you're able to at least check in so we know it went well.

Ok.. Had an issue the last couple weeks that isn't as serious but looking for thoughts. I'm type 2 diabetic so anything with my feet scares the shit out of me. I've had an ingrown toenail for a few years now after ripping it clean off in an accident. Causes pain but nothing terrible. Doesn't warrant a surgery. The past couple of weeks it's hurt a bit more then stopped completely. Feeling around I notice the tip of my big toe is numb and some down the side.

I was wearing really uncomfortable shoes at work that were really tight so I went out and bought some memory foam type shoes that are looser. No more pain, but my big toe is still numb.

Tonight I started curling and uncurling my toes to get blood flowing and feeling started to return but after awhile its numb again. I'm a little worried but don't want to jump the gun yet. Is there anything else I can do besides what I've been doing and massaging my foot?

Like I said, this isn't serious now but given what I have I don't want to risk anything.

Thanks Noodle. I'm hoping the big RNG in the Sky rolls me a good number.

As far as your toe, it could be a pinched nerve (doubtful), or it could be neuromyopathy, or something else all together. I'd get it checked out.

It's probably worth a co-pay to have a GP look at it. You're not paranoid. Anything weird with your feet or eyes is something to pay attention to.

Odds are pretty damn good that it's nothing beyond your shoes were too tight, and you're doing exactly what should be done with promoting bloodflow. He'll probably just tell you to get one of those foot-bath massager things if you don't already have one if he even suggests that much.

But on the off chance...

Yeah sounds good enough. I think I'll give it a couple weeks and if there's no improvement I'll go.

I agree with Iannis. You should definitely check with your HCP about any potential neuropathy you may be encountering in your toes. I'm not diabetic, but, something similar did happen to me when I rode from SF to LA on a bicycle -- my toe was numb for about 5 or 6 months.

My question is, what makes soda so especially toxic? If they added caffeine to orange juice, wouldn't that be pretty much the same thing? Fructose is fructose no matter if it comes from oranges or corn syrup.

It is toxic to the ppl who do not understand moderation. Other than that, i think it's fine, When i feel like spoiling myself i goto the mexican grocers (it's kind of mixed asian/mexican so it's cool, i mean they have fresh bean sprouts) I'll buy a 6pack of imported coke, made with real sugar in a bottle.

In and of itself it's not "toxic" so much. But think about it. It's the equivalent of watered down Aunt Jemima pancake syrup. It's hummingbird nectar with a co2 kick.

You probably wouldn't take a bottle of Aunt Jemima to work, pour yourself a inch of it into a glass, mix it up with water, and slurp that on down during lunch... but that's all Coca Cola is. It really is good for nothing except spiking your blood sugar. And HFCS has, at this point, been shown to interact in unexpected ways with your entire hunger/thirst mechanism. And that actually can be bad for you. Coca Cola literally is an appetite suppresant.

Now for anyone in good health it doesn't register as a concern. But if you wonder why America is so fat... a very large part of it is mass produced soda. No one is intentionally over stating the claim for sensationalist attention. It really is. It is better to think of soda as candy than a "drink". It's a candied drink.

I know it and I don't care. I like my fatpills.

Only a couple of generations back it was thought of as a candy. Coca Cola has been very smart, and very methodical.

The fuck I wouldn't. Maple flavored soda sounds awesome. As long as it's the real stuff and the darker grades for a fuller maple flavor.

I'd also download a car.
