Right, and thats why Magic seems to be a more well thought out game for the future.

I haven't played magic myself, but I've read and asked enough questions about it to get the jist of it.

The current Hearthstone is built around that 30 card deck, even adding 10 more cards would throw it completely out of tune.
You think the RNG is bad now add 10 more cards to your deck, and it grows at almost impossible levels.
You would be forced to play a deck to minimize that RNG as much as possible, where as now it's bad but it still allows for the different playstyles to still be used.

To me they have painted themselves in a very tight corner. I don't expect the Hearthstone we play now to last more then a year in live production. Eventually they will have to make a decision if they want to make it more like Magic so they can keep adding to it for years to come.

The virtual nature is great since they can alter all existing card copies. Giving max arcane dust for big card changes is a nice bonus as well. In MtG when they banned a card, it just ended up in the back end of your land box.

Yeah the virtual nature is really great. Specially for new sets in the future. i just hope they don't screw us by creating a new kind of dust for each set.

Oh you better believe they've already discussed it. I was thinking about that the other night in bed. I was thinking about how cool it'd be to save up dust before a new set was coming out, almost like saving up quests before a new expansion. And then I thought "fuck, I bet they'll make a new dust for each set."

I really don't understand how literally every single Mage I play in Arena is holding a Pyro. I have kept track and I have played against 6/6 Mages with Pyro in Arena today. Not a single Mage I played didn't use Pyro on me. Fascinating. But yeah I am playing against mostly Mages as well, hopefully the Meta does change. I think Druids are really sick now that I've played around, specially in the current meta.

I dont think that will work anyway.

We know for a fact that you will get your core cards for the expansions from there new Adventure modules.

My guess is the new packs for regular cards will be on another system entirely. In other words the bought packs will only generate cards from the original game, and there will be 2 different currencies for both sets.

So I managed to lose 3games in a row at 7-0 with one of the best mage deck I've ever drafted, it had 2 mana wyrms, 1frostbolt, 1cone of cold, 2fireballs, 1pyro, 1flamestrike, 1sheep, 1 ALEXTRAZA then a bunch of neutral good cards like 2 shattered, 2 dark iron, 1 yeti, 1armorsmith guy(the 4/6), 1venture co, then rest were fillers like raptor/croc/apprentice mage(or whatever the 3/2 -1spell cost) and such. I don't think I had one dead card, also had an arcane intelect, acolyte of pain and engineer. And yet managed to lose 3 games in a row in complete shutdowns, fucking mulligan full hands into another shit hands, start first all 3 games(with the shit hand). I expected to go 12/0 with that deck, hell the first 7 wins weren't even close besides one where I ended up playing alextraza for the heal(but not 100% sure it was needed, just was at like 7 and didn't feel like risking it).

Was so angry, played a bunch more, with mixed results, decent druid went 7/3, decent priest went 4/3 and finally good paladin went 9/3, fucking mage on last game played a secret then the mob that gets buffed on secrets and I didn't have enough to kill it and the fucking secret was spellbender. First time I see this thing being useful.

And yeah if they release an expansion, they're definitely adding a new dust, I just don't see why they'd let people who've been playing for a while get the entire set the moment it releases.

Just had a bug where a critical card was hidden behind one I couldn't select, so annoying.

I think some of you are looking at this from MMO or video game in general angle. For a CCG if they prove to have staying power they'll switch to set rotations and themed blocks of expansions in a year or two, and balance in the vintage card pool is going to be an entirely different animal then the current block. As part of that they'll diversify the general card pool while keeping the current set interesting/different by building it on a theme. With an expansion every other year the themes are practically provided already, just have to ?s??t??e??a??l? design some good CCG mechanics that fit the flavor. Of course, they'll need to deepen complexity of the cards/rules but that's a gradual process.

A new set of cards along with "Specializations" would be cool. So Mage currently would be Fire, Frost like your ability above and say Arcane: (2) Deal 3 damage, Overload (2). Balancing 27 hero powers is not a job I'm interested in taking on, though.

Hero abilities are going to get alot more diverse I think, gonna be boring otherwise. First rule to kick is that they always cost (2). I'd actually give each hero a passive and an active ability that you can balance against each other then. In constructed people are going to want to pick the hero that plays well with the deck they are trying to build.

Here's alist of heroesfrom the discontinued paper TCG (different rules so they wouldnt work in Hearthstone), possibilites are really endless once they open up some design space.

Some of the goldens are really pretty. I'm playing Priest with a golden Thoughtsteal, and everything it takes is the gold version. Novice Engineer and Arcanite Reaper are my two favorites so far.

Yeah screw mages. Husband is playing mage aggro and I'm trying desperately to find something decent to play against him. I just don't have a good enough card pool for anything to be even close to competitive against a mage.

For those of you talking about the dusts the way MMDoC does it is that you have to "collect" X amount of cards of the new set before you can "unlock" the ability to buy the new sets cards with dust(wildcards). On top of that the newest set costs more dust then usual for each tier of card and only drops down when the next set is released. Overall I feel it is a good system for both the player and the company.

Man Priest just feels so weak. Been trying a bunch of different decks and it just can't seem to keep up. It loses to burn Mage without the burst-y healing that Paladins/Druids have. Closest thing is Holy Fire and that is not enough most of the time. I went on a streak with a weird Rogue deck. The more I try weird but functional decks I think one of the biggest thing that has factored into my wins is people having no fucking clue what I'm doing. I did a Mountain Giants/Twilight Drakes Priest deck that is pretty suicidal and it actually worked pretty well. People based their plays off the idea that they are seeing some variant of popular decks, by not playing those decks, you're a little ahead. That is an advantage of the small card pool, they can see quite a few cards and still assume it is a very different deck.
