Mage still needs to be balanced as is. That arena stats earlier linked had it quoted that 65 percent of the time mage is taken if offered with the rest around 20% is a stark indicator of the imbalance.

Calling for balance changes on that singular statistic is odd. There's many factors on why people would choose mage. The fact that you start out the npc battles as one, and the fact that they have a very straight forward play style being two of the bigger ones.

Also the statistic is for a single format of the game. If 40% of the playerbase is playing UTH hunter in constructed that doesn't really show definitive evidence that the class is out of control.

Most other classes require a deeper understanding of their cards to perform.

Now if you can find stats showing mages performing better than other decks in multiple formats you have a discussion on your hands.

The win rate listed on that site was something higher in general as well - it's pretty obvious that people play them because they're "the easy class" in Arena comparatively from all the evidence there.

Besides, from my standpoint they're just no fun to play against in Arena. Their entire shtick is anti-arena - no other class requires you to consider their 2 mana ability when making your choices in how to build your Arena deck besides Mage and Rogue - and Rogue takes damage to use theirs and is "victim" to Taunt on it's use - mage is literally minimal tempo loss for incredible card advantage.

[Note: I also find Burn heavy Red in MTG to be incredibly shallow and boring too - resource denial can be a fun mechanic but mindless "boom, boom, boom" resource denial especially with NO REAL COST is inherently wrong. Hell, look at how rarely MTG makes some sort of recurring damage without some sort of card cost [or dramatic mana cost, not a trivial 2 mana (which MTG vs. HS would be more equivalent to 1 mana in MTG since hitting 2 is trivial)] tied to it, without damage rolling over between turns.]

How is the average game win rate not 50%? Statistics that already benefit from selection bias can't really be taken at 100% face value.
if you win 5.11 games on average than you play an average of ~8 games. 5.11/8 = 63.875

Not saying it makes sense, just saying I think that's where the number comes from

It's semi-selection bias - most of their stats aren't pulled automatically, you have to opt-in for them to track your account or something. But once you're opted in you can't select what gets reported or not from how it looks. (I'm not using it though so this is impression that might not be 100% accurate)

So likely its only grabbing more serious players though, but then again balancing is around serious players not casuals so it's the right group for the data to be based upon.

It's saying that the average win rate is 63.75%... for their users. Over the entire population it would be 50% of course.

I dont really get why shamans keep tossing out totems when facing a hunter - its just like feeding the hyena. That aside im surprised i havent faced a mage or lock yet in ranked - Everyone is a priest, paladin, or shaman thus far. Faced a couple hunters but they were pretty bad.

The 1/1 and the taunt totem are both useful. They can be Argused, at which point the healing totem also becomes useful. Spell damage is primarily useful if you have lightning bolts in hand to use as finishers. You're only worried about one card after all, no reason to entirely pass up your hero ability.

Very top heavy though. The rare rush deck might be an issue.
Lost to a Paladin I fell behind on when he had a 10/10 taunt tiger -_- If I could I would trade the Silvermoon and the Warlord for solid 2 drops or swipes, but I didn't really get early game options. I'm not a huge fan of the Stormpike Comando either. Archer and Healing Touch just happened to be the best of bad, but I honestly don't mind Healing Touch that much.

Edit: Make that two loses to Paladin's. Seriously, fuck Aldor Peacekeeper on my 1 tree. That's pretty much game over
