Agreed. I have some misgivings with how much you need to spend to come even close to a somewhat complete set is much more than what someone typically spends on a game. I'd be very curious if someone at Blizzard did an analysis of cheaper packs or more/better cards per pack(thus getting reluctant players to buy packs) versus bilking a smaller portion of players for more money.

I dislike how much "gotta keep them playing and paying" has pervaded games and how it might be blinding creators to better games/business models. The previous sentence was completely unfounded, I have no data to back that up.

I'd say the cost of Hearthstone is in line or cheaper than most CCGs, and most CCGs don't even have a f2p option. The fact that you aren't going to spend money on this game, i.e. you are completely f2p, means I really don't care about your opinion.

Most CCGs you accrue some value in what you've collected. I actually made money when I retired from Magic years ago. Hearthstone isn't cheaper in the sense that you get nothing for your money.

Hearthstone accounts can be sold for a good amount of cash actually. You can still cash out on Hearthstone. just not as easy or as much.

I've been playing Arena with the gold from my dailies and I purchase the occasional ticket as well. I get the occasional 5-3, but it's mostly 1-3, especially since GvG. It's frustrating and I'd rather play constructed but lack of legendaries keeps me from getting out of the scrub ranks. I tried the cheap hunter decks but they just aren't much fun. I actually have spent some money - $25 on Nax + another $50 on packs and arenas, on the game but I'm coming to the realization that I either have to spend $200 on packs to get the legendaries and epics that everyone should have or grind another 6 months to be competetive. Neither option sounds appealing.

And ya, I know that's just CCGs. Never again.

Did you miss the part where I said I might spend money if I felt it was worth it?

I think it's faulty to compare prices to existing CCGs. You're already on your computer, the ability to do something else, cheaper, is literally just an alt-tab away. It's the same problem movies and tv have had for a while now. There's an ever-increasing amount of competition for your free time, especially compared to CCGs' heydays of the 90s.

That's not to say that the business model isn't and won't continue to work. I think they could do better though.

See now this argument I really don't get. The fact that you can be competitive by just playing the game is more than any CCG has ever offered. Arena isn't really a "grind".

It's understandable if you define grind as something repeated, even if fun, for a lengthy period to achieve a goal(get enough cards to do constructed). You're not playing arena to play arena, you're doing it to get cards. Thus a fun activity can become a grind.

That's what my initial post was about. I've given up on using arena get cards. I play arena at a very casual pace to have some fun and fulfill dailies, so I'm much more satisfied with the game. The packs are just a bonus. And if I ever get enough cards to be competitive in constructed, that will be a bonus too. But it's not my primary intention.

Oh yeah asshole, because googling is just like asking a forum who might have a trusted source. Do you have first hand knowledge or were you just talking out of your ass?

In his defense, the first hit on that search is the place you want. Epicnpc. Hearthstone, Hex, MTGO, etc. My Hex pro level account is worth way more than I thought it was.

Calm down Spaz I was just fucking with you.

I had a guy at my LCS who bought a Hearthstone account on Playerauctions. I also had a few people buy Hearthstone Beta codes in 2013 with no problem. I'd assume it's just like selling a WoW account.

Hearthstone is harsh for a new player, but than again, what CCG isn't?

Personally I front loaded most of my purchases during Beta when cards were, regularly, being tweeked. That was the best time to put money into the game because the disenchant values were at their highest. At one time I had like 12 blood imps that got nerfed and I disenchanted 4 pyroblasts during it's nerf window. I'm betting there will be GvG tweeks but I doubt it will be on the scale of Beta changes.

I opened a golden Hemet and DE'd it immediately. I am sitting on the dust because I have no idea what to make. Is there a generic 'best' legendary in GvG that I should craft first?

That is simply not true. When I got into Heroes of the Storm Alpha for whatever odd reason, and it was closed to a very, very limited number of people. Someone offered me $400 for it (Heroes of the Storm) and by extension my account, but I didn't want to lose my HS collection, since I would have to sell them my entire Bnet account and the one with HoS was the same one I play HS on. So I did some digging, seeing if maybe I could find someone that wanted both or possibly get some value from the HS account. That was quite a while ago, during the very first wave of Alpha of HoS, so a far fewer group of people even had half a dozen legendaries in HS or whatever. It was still quite early, but my collection was pretty good from playing since earlier Beta. I couldn't find anyone to pay jack shit for my HS account. The most I was offered was like $30 for what amounted to ~$250 in packs. I doubt if people could sell their HS accounts then, that it can be done any better now, it would be much worse now (e.g. harder to sell). You'd need to have like every golden hero and an entire full collection for some rich ocd kiddie to buy.
