Well I think blizzard is going to want to push forward with a spectator mode sooner with this crappy exhibition tournament bringing in more viewers than the global sc2 semi-finals.

Artosis is better than me. I would have played passive and traded Raging Worgen for Water Elemental.

Only thing I would change is putting the players in sound proof booths like the SC2 players.

The crowd cheering when a player gets a good card in his deck kind of sucks,

This is really highlighting how exceedingly luck-based this game is. It's even more RNG than M:TG, which was already toeing the line of how much of a lottery a game can be and still have a professionally competitive scene. If you take M:TG and remove 80% of the mechanics, card types and strategic elements, you're left with a game where the outcome is determined by pure luck so often that it's hard to justify dedicating your gaming "career" to it.

yeah, those head phones aren't doing enough. kripp even adjusted them at one point on camera. clearly removing them while the announcers were talking.

good to know you'd have won if you were up there
Point was it was a misplay. Same as Reckful missing that pyroblast+lance. I guess YOU would have won up there too. oh and how about he announcers fucking up? I guess you would be a better announcer too.

Is this game actually trying to be an esport or what? Because the game is not an esport.

and yet it had more viewers than the starcraft finals, and the last MTG tournament put together. note that i'm not saying it's actually a legitimate esport, but it is more fun and interesting to watch than mtg is.

Wasn't this the first major tournament for the game? Of course it is going to get viewers it has a novelty factor. Not to mention having Day and Artosis playing didn't hurt. But the game comes down to RNG way too much to be considered even remotely competitive.

It may not be viewed as one by the SC2 crowd, but the audience really determines what is and isn't competitive. Look at LoL.
At least LoL has a skill factor even if it is less than DOTA. Hearthstone is simply a draw luck game and performing the optimal move at any given time. It is like watching competitive blackjack.

It's really telling that the things that got the commentators excited were never surprising moves and displays of skill but always just lucky draws. Not once did I hear them raise their voices to anything other than "oh wow, he drew a card that will help him in the current situation!" The game isn't completely bereft of skill since there is decisionmaking, but it's so overwhelmingly determined by luck that it just absolutely dominates everything. Entire consecutive series decided exclusively by literal luck of the draw is not something I expect to make a lasting presence on the competitive gaming scene.

I don't know if I agree with that, there's a reason some players can consistently go 8+ wins in arena while others cannot.
