Yeah I'm tempted to make a hard push for legend with hybrid hunter in the last week of the season as people succumb to the urge to test out tgt cards

What rank does the meta smooth out where you stop getting terrible decks that just happen to be loaded with fuck your win streak tech?

The main reason why a best of X with a single deck and a sideboard wouldn't work in Hearthstone is mainly because Blizzard doesn't release hate cards that are anywhere near as powerful as what Magic does. If I play meddling mage on one of your main combo pieces or manage to extirpate your kill condition, you are fucked. The strongest hate card Blizzard has ever produced is probably Loatheb, and it had a negligible effect on the power of miracle rogue, even post Leeroy nerf. A big part of this is that you rarely see such dramatic mismatches between high level magic decks as you do between hearthstone decks. One of the worst magic mismatches I ever experienced first hand was white weenie vs gifts combo in Kamigawa block constructed, but white weenie had some powerful sideboard options against gifts combo that would bring you back to parity or even favored in the match.

Right now the best of X switch heroes if you lose is probably the best format that can be done for tournaments.
Actually, Hearthstone hate cards are pretty much exactly like they were in the earlier days of MTG.....brutally punishing and basically unbeatable, but only certain kinds of decks have hate cards available for them. Just like a red deck will never beat Chill ever, a Mage deck isn't ever going to beat side in 2x Kezan Mystic. Unfortunately, just like counterspell control in the early days of MTG, there's decks like Patron Warrior where there's no hate available at all so if you gave them sideboards they'd just completely dominate.

I've survived losing secrets to Kezan with Tempo, Dupe control, and Freeze. But you're right, if everyone could board in double kezan mage would be much more difficult, so nobody would ever bring mage to a tournament with sideboards. Which is another argument against tournaments with sideboards.

Mech mage with no secrets! Mana wyrms and portals.

(I have NFC if mech is viable for tournament play.)

Lots of midrange pally's out there stomping me at the moment. Get on your Oil Rogues and crush them out of the ladder please!!

Edit: 0-3 against midrange Paladin. 5-0 against everything else this afternoon. Playing control warrior at rank 6.
Crushed several on my march to rank 5 with aggro paladin.

Now I can just relax. Fuck getting to legend.

Sideboards are something a game's competitive environment needs to be designed with from jump. They are incredibly awkward to implement after-the-fact, unless you have a hard restart-point for your format that holds sideboard cards. For a hate card to be worth running in a sideboard-less deck, it needs to be absolutely back-breaking in order to justify the real cost of making your deck worse against other decks. With sideboards, the power-level of hate cards generally has to drop to "more efficient version of a general answer." Over the years, as Magic design got more used to cultivating competitive tournament formats, the "shut-out" hate cards in new sets became replaced with simply efficient answers, because the "one card=u lose game lololol" shit didn't make for healthy environments, and just created games of chicken.

So I've been trying mech mage and I'll rogue, both pretty decent but get murdered far too often by shit tier decks with lucky draws. What's good to track up with for chests, just rebuild my face hunter again?

The thing is Hearthstone has hate cards BUT you have to know ahead what you are playing against or just have a few in anyways just in case based on the meta.

I am not saying it NEEDS to do sideboards and BO3 matches.

The method we have now where you bring multiple decks and as they are eliminated you pick a new one is 100% just the community working with the tools given to them. They could have easily done sideboards and BO3 and we would have an entirely different game. Blizzard reacts to the community and the community that jumped into Hearthstone is the people that want to pretend they are competitive but not really.

Did you try firebat's mechmage with the fel reavers in it?

I'd have thought mech mage would be great blasting past the lower ranks. I played an aggressive mech priest and it seemed to deal with aggro really well.

I played against this exact deck yesterday. People do not like it when you use Aldor Peacekeeper on their Fel Reaver.

Nah, I only have one Fel Reaver... maybe I'll sub it out try it for a bit. I had been playing a slightly slower version of that.

I was having a lot of issues with tempo and switched to a similar mech mage. Has been working well, at least up to rank 5. I run antonidas instead of sky golem.

Man Reaver ends up burning me every game I play though. It seems like it's either overkill and I get milled to shit from draw/hand dumping or it's too slow to do anything by time I draw it. Have yet to have one around turn 5 where it would make an impact.
