I've been writing and deleting responses to your posts, so I'll just say I likely don't have enough experience to debate this further with you. All I will say is that from my point of view, the acquisition of cards is not fast enough to sustain the playerbase to stave off stagnation from boredom. I think that's worse than a larger, more transient playerbase.Undertaker aside yes, It was in my opinion damaging to the game.
The single most played Legendary in the game by a large margin is Loatheb. He is a fantastic card and he appears in almost every single deck because he is good and because he is basically free.
If you made every card a gimme you get for unlocking some paid content it would stagnate the game into these Blizzard crafted decks and any innovation would go down the drain.
Take a look at "living Card Games" released by Fantasy Flight, They are old "dead" card games that they buy the rights to then release in box sets, Each Box you get every single card for one price. After one month every single deck type is perfected and streamlined because when you have access to every card you don't need to make half measures and it's no longer fun to play.
Were you responding to me? My point wasn't that "serious" hearthstone players use less effective cards, but that less serious players can run similar decks with substitutions. Myotherpoint was that other players who have a lot more cards than you still lose to better decks and still have to grind quite a bit to rank up effectively. That is silly Tigole.
Every serious hearthstone player already uses the exact card that they want. No top player says "well, shucks, I wish I could run X but instead I'll 'innovate' and try XX because I don't have the card". Hell, this is true even for MTG. When practicing for qualifiers or pro tours, if you don't have the cards you make up proxies. You build the best deck based on all the cards, and if you can't, you won't be able to compete.
At the highest level of course you are correct no "professional" hearthstone player would simply use a worse card because doesn't have it, He would just get the best cards. That is silly Tigole.

I wish they kept the old Diablo Real money Auction house and adopted it towards hearthstone. In fairness one of the reasons the cards are easier to acquire is there is no trading functionality, which is present in other CCGs (even digital ones). And trading/sharing cards can help people out quite a bit early one if they know people who play.
Agreed 100%, In the future I think they will have to move towards a "Booster Credit" Ticket system that both Magic and Pokemon online use. Basically you win a draft and you get a coupon for one free pack from the store.I'm just upset I'm stuck to earning GvG packs in Arena now. I don't really have a problem with the grind. I'm just still missing a shitload of the necessary cards from previous availability. I don't think GvG is so good that the older cards are completely obsolete now.
This is far and away the best feature of Hearthstone.I don't have to be in the presense of M:tG players
A lot of people are having issue drafting the new format and what I've noticed is card value has gone waaayyy down and now it's all about board control. Whomever has board control on turn 5-6 is most likely going to win the game.Has anyone done a guide to drafting arena now that GvG is out? My win rate in arena has plummeted to god awful levels after the patch, even when I feel like I'm drafting good cards/combos. Not that I was ever amazing but usually I'd be in the 5-6 win area on average and now it seems like I'm in the 3-4 range and sometimes that is a struggle.
