Most porn stars ARE tattooed, but shemale porn stars tend to get very feminine tattoos, like fucking tramp stamps, and when they get their breast implants taken out and cut their hair, they also need to change their tattoos or get them removed. Don't ask me to explain the hows and whys of what's going through these people's heads. Generally speaking, porn and prostitution and stripping will make someone decent cash, but not ridiculously wealthy, and the health risks are vast. People who are already willing to look past those two factors to get into any of it probably aren't making a lot of great life choices in the first place, so expecting them to be looking at this 100% rationally is probably a bit much to ask.

The blog post you linked was interesting, though it's not very clear if the stats about prostitution it presents lumps transvestites with transsexuals (though sex reassignment surgery is mentioned, so you would assume breast implants and other "lighter" surgeries would happen too). The specific topic also links to a giganormous article from a very controversial source which, at a glance, denies the existence of transsexualism as anything other than gay men playing dress up or people who derive sexual pleasure from the transformation of their body (I am probably misrepresenting the article, my excuse is that's it's longer than 10 hodj and lithose posts!).
I understand people do silly things for money, but I guess I find it very hard to wrap my head around the idea of a gay man who identifies as a man, who not dresses but transforms into woman for his every day life, totally messing with all professional and social life he might have outside of porn/prostitution, not to mention messing with his own head, even more so if hormones are involved (I understand the point you make about hormones and being able to perform as a top in trans porn, but I'll leave to you the data analysis needed to know what percentage of trans porn star get above half-mast!).

That was literally just me trying to put a silly spin on it for laughs.
They don't have to present as fully female in their daily life, they can present as gender fluid. They're involved in the sex industry, and probably spending most of their time hanging out in highly gay friendly and gay/trans heavy circles anyway, where the discrimination is less overt (though my understanding is that gay communities are still sorta wishy washy on trans people in various ways).
